The problem isn’t that by listening to a song will some how turn everyone bisexual. This song is about more then just that. It is about that no relationship is important. She cheats on her boyfriend and doesn’t take the girl feeling into consideration. That is what is wrong with this song IMHO. Really is just a song about a silly teenager thinking she is cool cause she got drunk and kissed a girl and that her boyfriend should be alright with it. And really is that a good message to send to anyone ? Christian or not

I am a bisexual woman who has “kissed a girl and liked it”. I’m now happily married to a great man, so obviously no more kissing girls And that’s one of the reasons why I LOATHE this song. Bi is not synonymous with slut, thank you very much. I may be attracted to both genders but I have never, ever cheated on either, especially not because I was “curious”.

The beat is horrible, her voice is worse, the lyrics are insipid and the video is just…ugh. I don’t know if I can properly explain why it’s so offensive from a secular heathen POV. I’m not Christian, so I’m not approaching it from that angle. But the video is so void of any sense of real emotion - it’s like wax figures. There’s no kiss in it, or even an attempted one. It’s the singer rolling around in bed while other girls in lingerie have a pillow fight and then she wakes up next to the hairiest, most unshowered man you can imagine.

She doesn’t want to kiss a girl because she’s genuinely interested or attracted to a specific girl. She wants to do it because it’s a forbidden, naughty thing to do. She’s playacting, and has no idea what she’s talking about. And that really rubs me the wrong way.

You’ll notice how much male attention it gets her, which is the entire point. The chick isn’t actually bisexual, because you never see her in a RELATIONSHIP with another woman. She just kisses other chicks in a club or at a party while lots of guys are around. She’s not bi, she’s just desperate for attention and slutty.

This song’s lyrics have little to do with same sex attraction and everyting to do with self-serving manipulative behaviour in the sexual realm. “Desperate for attention” is a fitting description for this girl.

for the record only one member of Queen is gay. The guitarist has a PhD in science. They are more than your average band.

Yes I understand, but the problem isn’t that it’s the fact that someone can say that they are the biggest influence in their lives…It just makes you wonder why?
I mean I love all those bands, Guns-n-roses, metallica, and their music is inspirational, I mean they have so much to say, and they are amazing…And I could see how some of these bands can be anyone’s influence you know?

And yeah you are right they are amazing and you can’t judge a book by its cover but still…I mean I would have stated that their wonderful music was my biggest influence not the members you know? Because I mean perhaps the PHD one might be the positive influence but she never specified whom influenced her more…so yeah…

I understand that art is art… But art, all carefree and creative (and subjective) as it is responds to certain cannons…and the only reason I know this it’s because my major was fine arts (but I haven’t worked on it for a while so I’m very rusty ).

We’ve agreed in the beggining of this thread that the tune was rather catchy, but we are talking about it’s influence on our children (I don’t have children of my own yet, but I’m a nanny, so I get it). We are adults! We already know right from wrong. For us it’s just another song, but for the kids…

To be quite honest, Madonna has gone further than Kathy -wannabe- Perry, the singer of ‘i kissed a girl…’ And i have to say that Madonna, Queen, Metallica, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, etc., are AMAZING musicians/performers/artists. But dennying their influence in our culture is just naive.

OMG! Didn’t we girls have lace gloves and a matte red lipstick hidden in our room way back when “like a virgin”? Has anyone in this forum ‘moonwalked’ or ‘headbanged’? Do not be fooled, it is very well documented how The Beatles, Michael Jackson (crazy as he is) and Nirvana change the music (and pop culture by extension) in their time. And quite frankly, the song is, rather than a society-teaser, a mere reflexion of today’s entertainment. Seriously, just watch MTV or VH1, or all this shows kids watch today, where you’ll see no feelings, no relationships, just uncontrolled urges, because why ‘buy the cow’ if you can drink the ‘milk’ for free, if you dig me…

And I’m not expressing an opinion (good or bad) on homosexuality or bisexuality because I have no right to jugde (that’s God’s job). I do believe that, as parents/guardians we are entitled to screen what our kids watch/listen, and to explain all this things to them in their own time and when we that happens, teach them right from wrong. We OWE them the gift of childhood… remember childhood?

Definitely see your point and yeah of course in some way or another everything we hear or see influences us, I mean seriously…Even if it’s a hairstyle, or makeup, or hair color, or style of dress, etc…And definitely if and when the time comes we should be able to prepare our children in right and wrong and that’s what parents do…

Maybe it’s not really about the latest fad, with all due respect, but it’s the point that in some way or another everyone is influenced by what’s around them in their environment, and in social life…Now-a-days with the whole acceptance of homosexuality, the need to get more attention and to do whatever it takes for it, to be more popular and cool, etc it’s difficult to fight against such influences. Maybe your children and everyone else’s might never even get the curiosity to know what it is like to do anything that certain t.v. shows continue on boasting about, and even certain songs like these (believe me that would be great if you never have to go through the whole fad thing with your children) but there is still just a chance that it could still happen and end up stating what the singer of this song stated you know? I mean what kid doesn’t rebel, it’s just how badly they do it and how far they go through it that will show how much influence these public stunts do to them…
I am sure you are a great parent but believe me sometimes it’s really hard to fight against these things…and their influence might be more than we bargain for…

It really is a catchy song too. I recall when I first heard it that I wished it had different lyrics so I could listen to it, lol.

Sadly (don’t know if someone mentioned this) apparently this artist used to be a Christian artist. Having not heard her previous efforts, I do not know the quality of them.

Of course, this is not the only time in recent years that I mainstream radio has played something which is rather obscene. Does anyone recall the song which played blissfully on radios and in stores across the country which had the lyrics “when I think about you, I touch myself”? That made me pause and go “Wait…what?”

I think that an important thing to recognize about things like this song and other glamorizations or normalizations of sin in the media is that their effects are subtle and indirect. Listening to this song will not likely cause someone to take on an immoral lifestyle or corrupt their values directly. However, its presence along with a number of other sin-affirming representations in the media serve to weaken peoples’ resolve against sin and to encourage the idea that it is “socially acceptable”.

We have to remember that when someone is in a situation where they are in strong temptation, then the sinful nature will reach for whatever “justification” it can to gain what is desired. A teenager faced with the choice of whether or not to engage in premarital sex has the teachings of parents and Priests on one side, but on the other they have countless Hollywood portrayals of premarital sex as romantic - backed up by painstakingly choreographed sex scenes involving unrealistically beautiful people. “Society” is telling them that the sin is ok, trying to justify the sin as an expression of “love” and reminding that “most people do it”.

It is truly a subtle and dangerous thing.

To tell you the truth, I wore all black in high shool because the artists that I liked did. I had a pair of combat boots that I wore to catholic school because Alanis Morrisette wore them. Nirvana put it this way in a song called “Smell like teen spirit” (remember?): ‘with the lights out it’s less dangerous, here we are now, entertain us…I feel stupid and contageous…my libido…a denial…’

So yes, the influence is there. I see 12 year-old girl in full make-up and heels at the mall in the afternoons, shopping at high-end stores with friend dressed the same way, with their pink-glittery cell phones and lots of pink lipgloss, and talking, in what appeared to be a foreing language to me, about which boys were sexy… all this while zipping capuccinos!! I don’t wanna be jugdemental, but they looked like little Paris Hiltons…

But it’s our job as parents/guardians to empower them with strong values (and pretty much all we can do), because when they become teenagers and more independent, they’ll be exposed to temptation and WE’RE NOT GONNA BE THERE.

Exactly!! It’s crazy to think that we too did some sillly things when we were younger…lol…and of course it’s expected but the point is as long as we raise our children well we might be able to help them distinguish between being “someone else” or being themselves…
I know I try to let my daughter decide her clothing style, and she mixes and matches but at least she is her own…Lately though, everyone in her friend’s group, has been living like Hannah Montana and the High school musical crew and I was like uhm? So of couse she calls her grandma and tells her what she’s into, my mother, like always, loving and all, decides to shower her grandaughter with so many Hannah Montana outfits for back-to-school, I didn’t know what to do?! So I am just standing on the side-lines reminding her that what’s in isn’t always cool and not to forget who she is…
So far it’s been working, she sports her style with the new outfits but still just thinking she wants to dress like her it’s like uhm what just happened here?!
