With all the negativity I see out there about the Catholic Church, I thought it might be nice to start a thread on why we LIKE being Catholic.

So…why I like being Catholic…

Well, the sacraments are a huge deal for me. Also knowing that we can trace our history to the time of Christ. I don’t have to rely on my own interpretation of scripture or moral issues (as I think I would tend to see things subjectively, rather than objectively). I love the ceremonial aspect of the Mass…that no matter which Catholic church I go to, I can pretty much expect the same experience (though with some differences in form, obviously). And in my own parish, we’ve been blessed with excellent priests. 😃

So how about you? What do you like about being Catholic?

Maybe in Central Illinois, not in NYC 😦 .

One of the many things I like is that we Catholics can say that Jesus is the One who started our Church… not Martin Luther 500 years ago, or “Pastor John” 5 or 50 years ago.

Another thing, like the OP said, is the Sacraments. It amuses me that so many Catholics don’t want to go to Confession, and there are Protestants who write to this and other forums to find out if they could go to Confession! We must be doing something right! 😃
 
Cool thread! I agree with everything so far, and wanted to add Eucharistic Adoration 🙂
 
I like being able to defend any of my faith positions with the backing of thousands of years of Tradition, and the guarantee of the Spirit guiding the Church! Sometimes, I almost feel at an unfair advantage… :o
 
I love EVERYTHING about the Catholic Church! Where do I begin??

The Mass is so uplifting, the spirtuality is powerful and the reverence is truly extraordinary. I love the quietness and prayers when the Holy Euchrist is raised and seeing Christ there.

I love offering up sacrifices for those in need, and the words of the Bible. The Holy Family of Our Sweet Jesus, the Blessed Mother, St. Joseph, St. Ann, and all the Saints who inspire me…I could go on and on…

I love Our Beloved Pope Benedict. :signofcross:
We Catholics are the luckiest people in the world.
 
One reason is how faith and good works are both equally important like 2 sides of a scissor.

Two, Sacraments especially the the sacrament of Confession ( Thanks God!)

Three, the Hierarchy, Magesterium and the Pope. It is assuring to me knowing that there are people working full time to lead us to the right way.
 
The tradition of the Catholic Church is huge. The sacraments and just the general knowledge that the Church provides. I am friends with many protestants, but they know nothing of the writings of Saint Francis, or Brother Lawrence, or other basic things. They know their interpretation of the Bible (and sometimes not even that). I think that the Catholic Church provides its members with knowledge and the necessary sacrements. I love being Catholic!
 
The Sacraments (especially the Eucharist).
Mama Mary!
Tradition.
Knowing that things won’t be changing willy nilly.

I get to hear the words and know “Yours sins are forgiven”
I get to have so many brothers and sisters (in Christ).
I can find a prayer for any occasion or event or disaster.
Great examples of a Godly life by Saints.
I’m sure there is WAY more to love about my Church, but that’s what I can come up with off the cuff.
 
How could I forgot the saints a.k.a people we can look up to in the faith!!! smacks head 👍
 
The Eucharist! Ever since I’ve been to a Catholic Church when I was a kid for family events, I could just feel a different presence in those churches. Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. It’s even more reverent, too.

Sacrament of Confession. It’s such a wonderful sacrament, and I always wind up tearing up afterwards. 😃

Saints, and Mary. I just loved reading about the Saints, and the Saints even talking to Mary and/or Jesus.

Church heirarchy - especially a tangible one. Being Lutheran, we didn’t really have a church heirarchy that I knew of (save for a bishop that for 20+ years I never knew we had. 🤷 ).

Prayers. (including the Rosary) They’re so much more rich than when I was Lutheran.

I’m part Polish, and so were St. Faustina and John Paul the Great!

Can’t find a mass in the city that never sleeps?

Right here in Arizona we have several 24 hour adoration chapels, (in a city that is mostly Mormon, to boot)
 
I love our 2,000 + years of history, our scholars, our saints, and our Papacy, which is the oldest surviving institution in the world! We were on our 250th Pope when George Washington became the President of the United States. 👍

God bless Pope Benedict XVI!!!
 
  1. That Jesus founded our Church. Honestly, if I was not Catholic I think that would make me seriously feel a pull towards conversion.
  2. This is somewhat on the personal side, but I like that because of the Church’s traditions and rules I have ancestors who have passed down the Faith to me. I feel connected to generations past and I feel a loving responsibility to carry forth what I have been entrusted with.
  3. That the Catholic Church brought the Christian faith to many parts of the world and the people who otherwise would not have known about Christ. As a Californian, I like that the Catholic Church founded the Missions here.
4.That anywhere throughout the world there at anytime there may be a Mass being celebrated and we are all part of that.

5.I love that on Christmas Eve Midnight Mass is broadcast on network television from the Vatican.
  1. I like that the Mass is such a perfect form of worship. I’m grateful that I don’t go to church to just sit and hear a preacher and a choir.
  2. That Jesus is present in the Eucharist and Communion is given at each Mass.
  3. I like that we are going back to using Greek and Latin prayers during some Masses.
  4. My fellow Catholics.
  5. The priests, the majority of whom are very good men, and the nuns who work very hard and who are overlooked by people who think women don’t have a place in our Church.

I love being catholic! I do realize that being a cradle catholic, I was sheltered from other religions.
I do remember a sermon that said that all catholics are in a boat and we should prevent non-catholics from clinmbing aboard!

I like the freedom of being Catholic and all the sacraments and traditions. It’s the real thing!

“Holy Spirit, please shine your light into my heart. May your still, small voice become louder than all the other voices clamoring for my attention.”
 
I love that it is the same mass being celebrated the world around. That my parish church holds the holy of holies and that yours does and so on and so on.
