It is interesting to experience the emotional release that is achieved in confession.

Self evaluations seem to keep mind clear of pride

What does going to confession do for you?

It does produce a sense of relief

Went yesterday. New priest, went very well. I’d guess 98 pct of the time I’ve gone to confession it’s been that way.

Yes a sense of relief, also a determination to not repeat.

Very important that helps lead a person in spiritual growth.

I walked out of the confessional the other day with the biggest smile on my face!

Well, I love the feeling that I have moved closer to God and am again available to recieve communion.

However, somethimes I feel ashamed and embarrased *after *the confession. That is a feeling that shouldn’t occur, but still does for some reason.

I love the feel of the burden and weight lifted off of me after confession. Yet, I don’t go near as often as I should because I dread going. I can’t seem to make it through without crying and my priest probably thinks I’m a nut case!! That’s a bad reason to put off going I know.

The act of contrition is really important to me as it also makes me realize “what I have failed to do” and to change.

I have experienced that frequent confession is a great help to receive many graces and blessings.

Me too. It can be painful to take something out of the dark and speak the words you are ashamed of, which is why I know the enemy tries to stop us going. But once the words are spoken, I find that it is as if a hold over me or chain has been broken. I can walk away (having repented) freed from the enemy’s grasp and ready to joyfully try to take the next step. I think that maybe we forget, that there is no sin that has not been confessed before and that God’s loving mercy is far greater than all the sins of the world.

God’s gift of forgiveness brings peace that the world cannot offer.

(Couldn’t get there in the first place without Our Lady).

I don’t like going to Confession as much as I like having gone to Confession.

Others have certainly sensed this, but it seems like your feet are not touching the floor when you leave the confessional. Years ago, there was one in particular in which I found myself arguing with the priest’s counsel. I suddenly realized that it was not the priest I was arguing with, but Christ Himself! Shamed, I stopped all resistance. As the priest pronounced absolution, I began shaking so violently that Father reached out and took hold of me, fearing that I would fall from the chair. As he did, he looked up to heaven and moaned “Oh, Holy Spirit!” A flood of tears came. I still cry when I recall it.

Unforgettable.

Sometimes before I get too happy, I realize what a louse I can be and then I feel sad.

👍

I don’t think I’m ever going to “like” going to Confession. For me it is like going to the dentist when you’re scared of dentists but you know you need work done. No matter how gentle the dentist is and how much Novocaine he gives you, it’s still the dentist and one is happy when it’s over and your teeth feel much better.

I’m perfectly fine with accepting that I am a lousy sinner, but the process of Confession has been scary to me ever since I was young and although I have come a long way I don’t think I’ll ever be running to the confessional with great joy.

OP, I am wondering why you go to confession in a Catholic Church if your religion is listed as other in your profile.

I’m always nervous going into the confessional. But after my act of contrition and being absolved of my sins it is like a ton of bricks have been lifted off my chest. I can finally breath again and I feel so relieved.
