Learning about other faiths help remove ignorance about other faith customs and beliefs. Does anyone else agree?

Yeah. I’d agree with that. Very often it gives you context behind where a person is coming from.

I agree. I feel if everyone learnt just a little about another faith, just to know about it and not for debating purposes, there would be much greater understanding between people.

I have no interest but I guess it could be useful as long as you don’t forget the mission given to the Catholic Church by Christ…the salvation of souls…to evangelize and help those outside the Catholic Church come Home. I would be more concerned about those outside the Church getting correct information on the teachings of Jesus and His Church.

Yes, it is through understanding others that we are able to do away with prejudice and hatred. Knowing why they believe the things they do goes a long way to removing suspicion and uncertainty.

I was not comfortable feeling hatred toward a well known church that pickets funerals, especially of fallen service men and women. So I researched them, watched them on You Tube, listened to what they had to say. Without in any way becoming sympathetic to their methods, I felt my own anger melting away as I grew to understand them. I don’t have to answer for what they do, but I will have to answer for how I respond to them. I prefer to love them as opposed to an escalating war of minds.

Definitely. That’s one of the reasons why I come here. I’m not a catholic, but the Catholic Church has a lot of rich history behind it.

Absolutely! I have been exposed much more this year to other Abrahamic religions, and I have to say, I feel such an increased, universal connection with them.

My late wife was a Buddhist, and a scholar of Buddhism. My two boys are both Buddhist-Catholics. So I’ve learned a lot about Buddhism, and am still learning. And about Taoism and Stoicism, too. They have helped me a lot in my understanding of Christianity.

Wish I had time to learn more about Hinduism and Islam. I’m sure they have a lot to offer, too.

I don’t like learning about false faiths. What purpose does it serve? We already have the fullness of the truth.

What purpose does it serve?
Indeed the Church holds the fullness of truth, that is what we believe, but to say that understanding another persons faith has no purpose, I’d have to say that learning about what they believe, why they believe, helps avoid a lot of ignorance about other people including why they do the things they do. Its also about mutual respect, not affirmation.

It allows you to learn and understand other people. To understand the world as it is, why conflict exists between and within religions. It gives you insight into why others live as they do. It allows you to make informed choices about your own religion. It lets you assess and evaluate your thinking against that of others. It means you can see the world with more clarity and less judgement.

I like that. Will have to remember it. Thanks. (Sorry, but I’m out of little heart thingies for today, but if I could, I’d give you ten!)

I have nothing against other faiths, but I have no interest in more than a slight understanding. It just doesn’t interest me, nor does it come up in my everyday life that I would need to know about them further.

would have like to have taken a class in college -“religions of the world”- just for the same reason as you. to learn the differences between those and the Catholic church.
