I do. I really do.

Since coming to terms with how I have to change my life to be acceptable in the eyes of God, and in preperation for my reception into the catholic church - Ive done nothing but read, pray, worship and work.

I’m not complaining. There is so much to learn about the Catholic faith I think if I live to be 100 I’ll never know more than 1 percent of it all. I’m loving every second of my journey.

I dont want to just go out with guys now for the heck of it. Been there and done it all my life. I know I want a different kind of relationship now with a guy. There’s noone in my life or circle of friends (serverly reduced by the way since delaring I would become a catholic soon) I could date.

I dont know what it’s like to go on a ‘‘catholic’’ date. I never went out with someone, even for a night, that did not involve sex. Intellectually, I can imagine it, and it’s what I want, but I dont know what it’s like.

But I dont trust myself to go out with a guy right now, and I dont know any guys I would go out with anyhow, ie, single, catholic, practicing, moral, faithful, and very goodlooking with great teeth 😛 .

sigh

Sometimes, like now, I miss my old life. Fueled with alcohol, dressing up with my girlfirends, driving guys wild in the bars and clubs, dancing the night away, ending with mindblowing sex.

sigh

I know I know I know - it was wrong then, and its wrong now, and I dont want any part of that lifestyle anymore.

I’d settle for looking forward to dressing up nice for a guy, going out on a date, enjoying some nice male company, having a laugh.

Oh ignore me.

Bruxilda slaps herself upside her head

Snap out of it girl…

sigh

You know there is something to be said for dressing modestly that is quite attractive. Every date ending with sex is not attractive to me at all. I understand the glam and the seductive nature of the wild life, but if you grow close to Our Lady, she will open your eyes, and you will see true beauty in loving God. 🙂 It is far, far more exciting and engaging and eternal.

Oh I know - and I agree. CAF cost me hundreds when I realised I had to change my dress style 😛 and I have.

I dunno. I’m just a bit down today for some reason. I DONT want any part of my old life any more. Maybe Im just missing a bit of male company or something or just feeling a bit lonely or sorry for myself.

I usually fire on all six cylinders 24/7 and Im not down for long. Just feelin a bit bleuuuccchhhhhh today.

I noticed in your bio that you work with people with disabilities.

How ironic.

You used to hang out with people with disabilities. It is a “fruit” of original sin… concupiscence - the attraction or desire to sin.

Unfortunately… that desire is with each of us forever.

Fortunately… God loves us when we say no to sin and yes to him

For now… advice from the mind of the late Archbishop Fulton Sheen…

He explained that we can not really just get rid of a desire, an action, a tendancy etc. When we do, it leaves a void that will be filled… often with a return to that undesired thing,

so… the best and perhaps only way to improve, is to replace that action with a positive worthwhile one.

Example… got used to spending Wednesday night at the bar and worse? Find a Bible Study, or a community group that meets on that night… or even visit a nursing home or something even as a volunteer. They will begin to depend on you more than your friends of yesteryear… and you will begin to feel your life has some importance.

You might even be “compared” by them as the girl who is like an angel … better than the girl who was like all the other one nighters.

Good luck…

It is possible to toss the baby out with the bathwater.

You can get dressed up - and be pretty and wear a goregous red dress and sparkly jewelry and perfect makeup. Just don’t wear something so short it can pass as a belt or something with a neckline down to your navel.

You can dance. The music blaring and lights flashing - laughing and dancing til you drop. Dancing does not have to be a sinful bump and grind.

You can drink alcohol - remember, we are not Baptists, remeber to drink in moderation and not get sidewalk licking drunk.

End the evening curled up in your cozy bed - alone, with the music in your head and a prayer of thanks to God for creating music and friends and wine!

Sex outside of marriage is a recipe for heartache.

Being a Christian does not have to be all somber sour faced drudgery.

I can understand how you feel. Hang in there and be patient. Hopefully a Catholic man who has gone through a simular lifestyle and struggles you have will come your way, and you guys will get married and have mind blowing sex.

Stay the course.

Leave it all in Gods hands.

Keep the Holy Spirit near you and in you.
Come Holy Spirit, come by means of the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, your well beloved spouse.

Do you have a dog? Maybe getting a dog will help… Just a thought. 🤷

Oh Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of mercy for us, I trust in You.

Hi Ag_not,

Middle-aged single Catholic woman here. My “wild nights out” some years back when I was a Star Trek geek hanging out with other strangelings basically consisted of putting on some wild costume or other (Borg, Q, Vulcan … ) and then dancing up a storm. To the point where, people needed to clear a path when they saw me move in their direction because I would leap around like an Olympic figure skater … Some guy informed me that I had subconsciously picked up martial arts moves along the way and was doing them as dance moves! :extrahappy: :whacky: :bounce:

The only reasons I no longer indulge in “out there” dancing are:
  1. Star Trek went downhill and died long ago. (Don’t wanna hear about the new stuff.) :o
  2. Legs and lungs can’t keep up as much with the fast beats.
As for being single, I used to look for a potential marriage partner but then when I prayed about it on a certain occasion, it seemed like I received an immediate answer that I’m not meant to be married, so I immedately stopped looking.

You know, sometimes it’s hard to be a single woman in your average Catholic parish. I followed the typical advice of getting active in the parish, joining groups, etc … Even hosted a Christmas party in my apartment for the Women’s Renewal Team … Not a single friend to show from any of those efforts.

So … instead of hanging out at Donut Sundays (except for at a friendly Latin Mass parish where there ARE a few people who will talk to me so I do participate occasionally) … I went out and took nature and landscape photos.

And GUESS WHAT ?!?!?!?! :dancing:

Three of my photos are currently hanging up on display at the Market Street Art Center for their “Off the Walls” holiday exhibit !!! And I have sold some of my photos at events on Kelleys Island !!!

And when I come upon fellow artists, it turns out they’re the ones I have an easy time making friends with !!! Like we’re on the same wavelength, and we can talk for hours as if we’ve known each other for years, even if we’ve only just met! 🙂

So hang on, and ask God and your guardian angel to lead you.

If you have never heard Father Corapi’s conversion story, I must recommend: get it!! He lived perhaps an even more wild life, but realized it was dust. You can get the CD talk for free over at the Mary Foundation. Or PM me and I can email you an MP3.

No offense but you’ve totally gone about this the wrong way. Being Catholic doesn’t mean becoming a wet blanket and a foreigner to fun. We are the salt and light of the earth and are commanded to let our light shine.

Don’t hide yourself away. Get out, be social, HAVE some FUN!! You can do plenty without drunkeness and promescuity! If you are hesitant to date for now, go out with some girlfriends.

Absolutely have a great time dancing, attending holiday parties or just going out for a night with good friends. There is also plenty of room to have fun on dates…and if your only way of relating to a man is through sex, this may actually be an opportunity to learn some lessons that truly enrich your life.

Good luck and ENJOY~

Maybe if you change the terms you’re using and stop glamorizing it, you might not miss it so much.

You used to go out and get sloppy drunk with people who were your friends until you sought something of higher value in your life. Most of them ditched you at that point, so how much did they really value you? You used to put yourself on display, like a shiny toy in a store window, so guys whose names you didn’t know would want you. Then you used to leave the relative safety of public places to go behind closed doors with men you literally knew absolutely nothing about, whether they were married or serial killers or whatever. Then you used to get naked and allow this stranger, whose last name you didn’t know, to actually enter your body’s most private and intimate place, with his most private and intimate parts. If he was living the way you did, the part that was inside you at the time could have been inside several other women, and for all you know, men, that same week. And what if he hadn’t showered the last one off before he met you?

See what I mean? If you look at it differently, it loses all the glamor you’re giving it, and you have no reason to miss it. I’m not a prude by any means, but I don’t understand how anyone sees that lifestyle as fun or positive.

I think part of what’s going on here is that before, you had a certain power over men, and you liked it. But if you examine what you were doing, what you really had was the power of a steak over a hungry dog. Now you are being forced to try and find your power and value in a different way and on a different plain. That’s hard work, so you start thinking about how easy it all used to seem. But in the end, the dog eats the steak and has forgotten all about it by the next time he gets hungry.

This is the “lonely” time of year for those of us without families close, and who don’t make friends easily.

Hang in there, Bruxilda. Keep praying the Rosary, 'cuz Our Lady (and our perfect mother) is wonderful company, and a great port in a storm.

I’m lowish today, too. Cyber-hugs to you.

Hey, why not put on some of your favorite dance music and just boogie by yourself? Good exercise, and that helps banish the blues.

God bless you more and more,

Ruthie

Yep maybe that’s a bit of it too :o

You know something - today I spoke to Mary, after I posted this. I told Her I was horny as a cat in heat and lonely as hell and I was going out tonight and She can stop looking at me like that and say what she likes; I’m sick of having no fun like I used to, Im sick of living like Mother Theresa. Im not a saint, I dont want to be a saint, I have needs and I want a man and Im going to get one tonight and we’re gonna do things that will make you cry so look away now Mother cause Im outa here. Save the pius lectures for someone that gives a dam.

That wasn’t the half of it. :o I gave Her a real proper talking to. Oh Yes. I put her straight on a few things let me tell you. She got the sharp edge of my tongue that’s for sure.

I was talking to her as I was stomping around the house. I stormed into the bedroom to look at my wardrobe. I flung the doors open with great gusto, and they flung back on me, the right one hitting me square on the cheek.

I screamed, and flung the door open again. This time it came back on me and hit me full on in the face

I screamed a tantrum scream and then started to laugh. I went to the bathroom to run some cold water over my face - and saw the formation of a lovely edge of door type bruise coming up :bigyikes:

I sat on the edge of the bed with my head in my hands, and just started to laugh. And laugh. And laugh.

Im so sorry Mother I said. But a simple ‘No’ would have done !!!

Ive been dancing all afternoon cleaning the house. Now Im so tired all I want to do is curl up with a good book and fall off to sleep, after my prayers.
God bless you more and more,
Thank you Ruthie. And everyone here.

I had to think about that for a second, then burst out laughing so loud you wouldnt believe 😃

I have been called many things by guys but NEVER has my seductive charms been compared to a lump of meat. 😃

For bringing me down to earth and teaching me a lesson in humility I will never forget Im lighting a candle specially for you tomorrow at Mass and a general one for all here, because if I couldnt come on here and level with you guys, I dont know where I’d be 😊

It’s still possible to go out and have a good time without sinning persay. I go out to bars all the time to hear music, dance and socialize. I’m not a drinker or a smoker and my dates never end with sex. I still go out though mostly without guys because I don’t “put out” so to say and most guys won’t bother to date me because of that. Their loss. I don’t go unless there’s music and dancing . I also try new restaraunts all the time as well as doing a lot of volunteer work. Lately I have slowed down a bit. I get weary of the bar scene every now and then and spend a weekend reading instead. I think it all comes down to balance. There nothing wrong in going out unless you get carried away with it. Also if you have addictions that might be agrevated by those locations then it’s probably best to avoid them. 👍

Bama, that’s the one line you picked up on during her whole post:tsktsk:

Just kidding, I about fell off my chair when I read that:eek:

Hello!

I can understand where you are coming from. We all miss the fun we have committing sins. But we also must look forward toward God, not back toward our past lives, or else our hearts will be divided between sin and God - and if our hearts are divided, how can we pray and love the Lord?

Sex is a powerful good thing which God created for man and woman; not just for reproductive purposes but for the pleasure of the couple and the good of the family. Sex is powerful because it is meant to unite two bodies into one and symbolize their poweful love for each other. Sex is good because God, Who is Goodness Itself, created sex and our bodies.

But see, Catholics live not for themselves but for God. We have Holy Communion, which dose to the soul what sex dose to the body: It augments our union with Jesus just as sex auguments the union of a man and a woman. We are the betrothed of the Lord by baptism and and we await with joyful hope for the wedding feast of the Lord, which we enjoy in Heaven.

So set your sights on Heaven. Think of eternity in Heaven. Heaven is complete and absolute happiness. Even the greatest happiness you can enjoy on Earth is but a drop in the ocean compared to even an ounce of the joy you’ll enjoy in Heaven. Think of the glory of Heaven, the company of the saints and angels, our Lord Jesus Christ and His Mother Mary, the Most Holy Trinity. And realize, at the same time, that every time you celebrate the Eucharist, you get a share in the heavenly liturgy, because the earthly liturgy - the Holy and Divine Liturgy, whch is the Mass - is a mirror of the liturgy in Heaven. And what great joy we have in the Eucharist - yet not even that is Heaven!

And realize, too, that as you gaze upon God, He gazes upon you; as you think about Him, He thinks about you; and when you call yourself “Ag_not of Jesus”, He calls Himself “Jesus of Ag_not”. This contemplative life is like that between a husband and a wife who look into each other’s eyes to ponder one another’s thoughts, who think about each other all the time, and who give each other to one another. The life of the Christian is one of love and truth; love and truth which goes so far beyond the human limits that one can dare say we have truly become like God. The name Michael means “Who is like God?” The answer: We who are eucharisted.
