***I am having a beautiful and blessed day, today…I am so grateful to have such wonderful kids, and a great husband. I do miss my mom though. 😦 To never buy my own mother a mother’s day card all these years, it stings. To not have a mother to wish happy mother’s day to, or visit–it still stings. It still hurts.

It has been 30 years since I’ve seen my mother. She died when I turned 10. She died two days before Mother’s day, and I am feeling a little melancholy today. I miss her.

I wanted to offer up my prayers to all of you whose mothers are deceased. May you remember the good memories with them, and know that our Mother Mary in heaven is praying for you, and loves you. She is our Mother, too, and I’m so thankful to know her.

Anyways, just wanted to share. I’m surprised after 30 years, I can still cry in missing my mother, on Mother’s Day. 😦

God bless,
Sharon***

yes I sure do, I don’t think time ever erases this. I had my mother until she died of cancer at 67, but there are still times when I find myself thinking, mom would love this so I’ll get it for her, I should send her flowers today, better call her tonight, then I catch myself. I have actually purchased books for her, forgetting for a moment she can no longer enjoy arguing about them with me.

2 of 4 kids called me today, but it’s early I might still get lucky

***I never had a relationship as an adult with my mom, it would have been so great to know a different side of her, as an adult daughter knows. I look at my own kids, and I had already been without her by their ages. I don’t think about it often. I have my parents’ pictures around the house as fond reminders. My mom used to wear a mustard seed in a small glass round case around her neck on a chain, she prayed the Rosary fervently…I always think of her when praying the Rosary myself. You know, it is such a great comfort, tell me if you feel this too, when I pray the Rosary, knowing that Mother Mary is there, right by my side. I have felt her closer to me over these past two years more than ever before!

I guess every now and then, I need to allow myself the time to sit and cry, thinking back to my mom.

It sounds like you and your mother were very close…how great is that? I’m sorry for your loss, and it helps to know I’m not alone in thinking like this on Mother’s Day, especially.

Thanks for your reply, annie. :o***

:hug3:Hugs to you whatevergirl. I’m blessed to still have my mom, but I lost my dad the day after I turned 16 so I know where you’re coming from. After all these years, I still miss calling him on father’s day.

***:hug1: to you too Nanny!

I am sorry for your loss, too…yes, so you know what I mean, here. I learned along the way though, that loss is loss, no matter when it happens. I used to think I was somehow in ‘greater’ suffering than people who lost their parents as adults, but you know, pain is pain…loss is loss. I sometimes wonder if I had more memories with my parents, if the pain would be worse! :o

You know, what hurts is that I never had a mom or dad to teach me how to become a woman…thankfully, my sister was there to raise me, but she wasn’t my mother. Very different. She watched over me, and because of my faith, I think I turned out ok. lol But, I wish I had a mom all these years to ask parenting questions of, cooking tips, to be a grandmother to my kids. I feel my kids missed out on meeting two amazing people!

I know that things happen for reasons, I have to admit…I want God to explain this one to me, when I get to heaven someday. I accept His will in all things, but this has been a hard pill to swallow on some days. 😦

Take care! ***

I’m so sorry for your loss. :hug1: It sounds like youre mother was a very special woman and you were blessed to have her for the short time that you did. From what I’ve gathered from your posts, you’re a wonderful mother yourself. I’m sure she’d be very proud of you!

I hope you have a blessed Mother’s Day!

Awww Sharon, I am so sorry about your loss even though it was 30 years ago. It still stings as though it were that day I am sure. May God comfort you and may you find peace and happiness in our Mother Mary’s arms. :crossrc::console:

Hey!

Your mom isn’t dead. She’s alive in Jesus. And everytime you keep Jesus company, or unite yourself to Him in Holy Communion, or think of Him, your mother keeps you company, and is there with you, and she thinks of Him with you. For such is the love of the angels and the saints.

Moreover, you have a Heavenly Mommy: The Virgin Mary!

*Oh Eucharisted…I have tears in my eyes reading that, how precious are your words right now! :o Thank you. *
*

Holly–yes, some days, it feels like the whole thing just happened…losing my parents. Weird. I have become stronger because of Christ. I unite the sufferings to His, and He comforts me.

Felicity, thank you for your kind words…and to everyone here, thank you, and God bless.

For anyone who is missing his/her mom today–my prayers are with you, that God may give you rest and peace this blessed day. *

That’s gotta be so tough. To lose your mom at such a young age very hard to get over because there’s alway the feeling of what could’ve been. I have a young friend (still in high school) on facebook who is, in the words of her profile “having a hard time celebrating mothers day,” because her mom died about four months ago. My heart breaks for you as it is breaking for her as mothers day must be such a bittersweet time for those whose mothers left too soon.

God bless you and give you peace.

Sharon,

I hadn’t realized until I read this thread that you had grown up without your mom. How sad for you, and how difficult it must have been for your mom to know she would be leaving you (if she did know…)

Losing a mother is something that stays with us forever, I think. I was blessed to have my mom until three years, ago, when she was nearly 84. I still have to fight the urge to call every Saturday morning, and I still see her so clearly, and can hear her voice.

Today is also the second anniversary of my MIL’s death, and would be my parents’ 62nd wedding anniversary. (Dad is still alive, at almost 89.) Lots of memories on May 10th!!!

Know that your mom is with Jesus, proud of you and the great mother you have clearly turned out to be.

***Aw, thank you dixie eagle. As I mentioned above, I wonder sometimes if having my mother into my adult years would have been harder or easier to ‘let her go,’ than when I was a kid. I think as a kid, when something like this happens, it shapes your life – you sort of sculpt your identity around the loss of people, things, jobs…to this day, I still struggle with loss. But, through prayer and my love and trust in Christ, it isn’t a constant struggle anymore.

Hope you had a blessed mother’s day, yourself.

Thank you for the kind thoughts everyone…I have had a most blessed mother’s day…just hit these sad patches now and again. :o***

:hug1: God bless you, whatevergirl.

I happen to be going through lots of old photos today, and seeing pictures of my great-grandmother brought a tear to my eye. She meant a lot to me, and though I was only ten years old when she died I still miss her very much. I can only imagine how hard it must be for my grandfather, who loved her with all his heart.

Your mother and my great-grandmother are in Heaven together praying for us, surely. :hug1:

God bless all those who are missing their mothers this day.

***That is a comforting thought, thank you for sharing this with me. :o Going through old photos…aw, I know the swirl of emotions it brings. :hug1:

Will we know our parents by ‘sight’ when we arrive in heaven? I have heard that we will not have the ‘roles’ we had on earth…is that true?

Anyone know? I want to be able to see all those who have touched my life here on earth, in heaven again someday. ***

Technically, I don’t know. But I’ve always thought… well, the saints are still close to us here on earth, interceding for us and such. Surely if the Church Triumphant can have some manner of a relationship with the Church Militant, the Church Triumphant can have some manner of relationship with each other. I know little Therese believed that she would be reunited with her family in eternity… she lost her mother at a very early age, too.

Oh, I’m so happy to read this, thank you!

I know that when we are in heaven, we will want for nothing, and every tear will be dried…there will be no more want or pain. So, everything will be revealed…and I have to think that God would sense our happiness in reuniting with those we lost earlier in life. :)***
