If it was a lie, you committed the sin of slander.
If you did so in the heat of the moment, without planning to do it,
it was a venial and not a mortal sin, because it wasn’t cold and willful
(( i.e. by that I mean thought-about and committed with full consent of
the will intending to slander him )).
If it IS true, then it was not the sin of Slander (for slander/libel is bearing FALSE witness
against someone), but it might be the sin (still venial if in the heat of the moment)
of Detraction, especially Unnecessary Detraction.
If you found out that your dad has same-sex attraction but is NOT committing gay
sex acts, then he is not cheating on your mother, nor sinning at all with his body,
and it was not necessary to reveal that conflict within his personality to your mom.
But if he IS cheating on her? That’s another matter.
Some would say (not without reason) that it would be cruel, both to him
AND to your mom, to reveal the cheating to her. That’s a valid viewpoint.
BUT.
There are other possbilities to consider as well, if you know that he is, in fact,
practicing gay sex. Should you tell your mom? Difficult to answer.
A woman who is being cheated on by her husband, with another woman,
may be infuriated by it, but she can at least COMPETE with “the other woman” to win back her husband’s loyalty because, after all, it is another WOMAN who has gained
his affections.
But if he is cheating on her with a MAN, how can she “compete” with THAT??
Many women have realized this, to their shock and heartbreak, about their husbands,
because in such a situation, he doesn’t want a woman, whether “another woman” or even in fact, possibly your mom. He wants a MAN, and a woman cannot compete with another man to win back your dad’s affections. That would be very difficult for a woman to deal with.
Also, whether with a woman or with a man, if your dad is cheating on your mom,
you are faced with having to consider the possibility, the very REAL possibility,
that he may be having “unprotected” extramarital sex, and therefore could bring home,
and infect your mother with, a very dangerous sexually transmitted disease, such as syphillis, the big G, chlamydia, or even, god forbid, AIDS/HIV.
Your innocent mother definitely does not deserve to be made sick by her cheatin’ hubby,
and in that case, to reveal it to your mom would not even be a VENIAL sin of detraction, it would, in fact, be an act of Charity towards her.
There are many factors to consider here.
But if you lied about your dad in anger, it was still a venial sin.
But it will become a Mortal Sin if you do NOT reveal to your mom that
you slandered your dad and that your claim was false and made in the heat of anger.
Moms arent’ dummies. They’ve been around the block.
They know that kids get furious with their dads sometimes and say god-awful things about them that they later regret. If you lied, just tell her. And if your dad knows you lied, that really hurt his feelings whether he shows it or not, so apologize to him. If he DOESN’T know that you lied about him, then don’t tell him, because that would STILL hurt, and why subject him to that unnecessarily??
In any case, confess to God, and when you go to confession next time,
even though it was a venial sin, confess it anyway. It isn’t strictly necessary to do so,
but you gain Grace against such future deeds by confessing even the venial sin. In other words, it’s GOOD for YOU , to do so. Peace and love to you !!
