Welcome to CAF!!

Here’s an excellent article that compares Catholic Liturgy with the LDS temple.

This link offers a PDF download that includes several interesting pictures. byustudies.byu.edu/showtitle.aspx?title=5448

Best wishes in your search.
This doesn’t really “compare” the two. The author just states that yes “there are similarities but here’s why the catholic liturgy is wrong and the LDS Temples are right”. It’s a very biased article that doesn’t provide much biblical support in it’s claims.

So basically, its 3 persons in 1 but the Father is not the Son, the Son is not the Father and the Father and Son are not the Holy Spirit. But all 3 of these together make God?
Jesus Christ is One with the Father. The Holy Spirit is sent from the Father.

Another way to look at it is, a person can be a father to his children, a son to his parents and a brother to his sister. Three aspects, one being, you see?

Welcome! I “Came Home” to the Catholic Church 2 years ago now; I converted from a VERY active LDS family. I haven’t once looked back- I find myself so in love with God’s Church that I haven’t missed the LDS church at all.

I have a very close connection to Ireland too as I’m a Championship Irish dancer (I’m working on getting certified to teach, too), so if you ever want to “geek out” about all things Irish I’m your gal 👍

It’s SO heartwarming to hear of our brothers and sisters in Christ approaching the forums interested in Catholicism. I swear I never knew true spirituality until I was baptized into the Catholic Church.
Wow, SpeSalvi, it’s been two years already? I remember when you were discerning and you were concerned about writing your letter.

👍

Welcome! I, too, was a former LDS also. I am exploring the Catholic faith and share your excitement. I feel like this is meant for me also. I was raised Episcopalian when I was little so, therefore, I am no stranger to the routines and rituals of the Catholic Church. I love the way they do Mass, to me that is most holy. More spiritual than the LDS church. Feel free to pm me or talk to me here if you like.

On a side note, if your grandparents are from Ireland, perhaps you can live there?? That would be exciting for you!

Welcome & good luck in your learning journey! I am an Aussie ex-mormon on the journey home to the Catholic church. I’d suggest attending the RCIA classes to help you understand the church 🙂

I actually joined CAF about a year after I converted, when I felt like I had been formed enough to hold my ground with our LDS posters. I posted about the letter asking for my records to be removed a little over a year ago 🙂 however, I had been lurking for a good year and a half before I joined! I’d stay up all night reading every question from the “ask an apologist” section- I was SO thirsty for knowledge of the Catholic Church and it always had such great answers and resources.

Irishman, Walls of Limerick and Siege of Ennis are so fun! As far as group dances go, I LOVE one called The 3 Tunes. I do mostly competitive solo dancing, and it’s hard but WAY fun. It was actually a friend from Irish Dance that introduced me to my now husband, and so you could say that Irish Dancing is one off the reasons I’m now a part of the Catholic Church.

I’m about to head out to barnes and noble to pick up Catholicism for Dummies. I’m also going to search and try and find a Catechism. Any other books I should pick up for starting out?

I’m sure i’ll have some questions and concerns when I start reading and delving into the faith. I found a local church thats about 20 minutes away so i’ll head there on sunday. Although their website said they had times for “Adoration” what is this exactly?

Many thanks for the prayers and good words!

Also, find a book about “Lives of the Saints”. I will be getting that soon. And here is a link to the Catholic tv channel store.

To me Adoration is one of the most holy forms of prayer.

In Mass, the bread and wine are actually converted by a mystery into Christ’s body and blood while retaining their visible form.

Adoration is (BASICALLY) silent prayer in the presence of Christ in the form of this converted bread.

I recommend you try it even once. The sense of awe, power, love and peace can be amazing!

Do you mean by mystery that nobody knows how it is converted into Christ’s body and blood? Also, what kind of prayers do we say at Adoration??

And books, I’d try to not buy too many at once.Maybe one or two simple ones that talk to your heart when you see them. You might find you digest them more fully and of course a Franciscan recommends a life of simplicity! You can always go back for more another time!

Hi Becca,

Mystery is a word that means so much in Catholicism. Yes we don’t know how.Only God fully understands God.

What kind of prayers?

For me, I just listen to God talk to my heart. The silence, the being there with God who I love so much and who loves me. Just saying ‘here I am God,you know all about me, I’m just here because I love you and want to spend time with you. I need your healing and I love you.The rest is silence, listening, feeling the real presence.’

Thank you! I love seeing a quiet peaceful Mass.

Here are some more conventional prayers you can say

catholic-church.org/kuwait/eucharistic_prayers.htm

Including one from St Francis himself! (Always recommended!)

the prayer that St. Francis instructed his brothers to pray whenever they were before the Blessed Sacrament: “I adore You, O Christ, present here and in all the churches of the world, for by Your holy cross You have redeemed the world.”
