Thank you! I love simple prayers. I can’t handle long complicated prayers cuz of my memory getting old. 😃

I’m sure i’ll have some questions and concerns when I start reading and delving into the faith. I found a local church thats about 20 minutes away so i’ll head there on sunday. Although their website said they had times for “Adoration” what is this exactly?

The first time I read Catholicism for Dummies, sitting in a B&N, I threw it across the table.

😃

It is one of my very least favorite books on Catholicism. It doesn’t explain things well at all, IMNHO.

It was prolly written by a non-Catholic. The best way to understand the Catholic Church is to read the Catechism.

I think that is why converts to the LDS church become bored or burnt out or something to where they leave the church and seek more enriching faith elsewhere. I was mormon also but I was missing something and so lonely amongst the ‘eternal families’ in the chapel. How long was Jesus’ ministry?? It was what 5 years?? So that wasn’t quick either.
 
I was a Mormon my whole life until 1999. My entire family still is. I’m the first in five generations to leave. I pray for their conversion daily.

In one way Jesus ministry was a lifetime, another it was/is forever!

Jesus is alive and ministering today!

I was a convert from 1992 and the only one in my family. And none of them are Catholics! 😃

I never thought of it that way but very good!! I just read somewhere there are about 600,000 members here on CAF!
 
The message of Christ’s Love is so powerful.

He is with us & loving us in a perfect way no human can ever love us.

He is with us right with us by our side.

It is easy to forget all this sometimes when discussing finer points of theology.

Christ truly loves us with a tenderness and compassion that is beyond all knowing.
 
The Catechism of the Catholic Church can be ordered online for like $10 or so. It is comprehensive and you can take as long as you like to read it.

Also, call a local Catholic Church and ask about RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults).
It takes about 6 months or a year to become a Catholic.

Here’s an Amazon (online) link from which I ordered recently (last month).

So wait, in Mass you consume the bread and wine. In Adoration you are simply there to sit and pray in the presence of Christ?

So what would you suggest? i’ve been reading the Catechism but to be honest, it uses a lot of words and phrases that I don’t fully understand.

I don’t know how you feel about reading books online, but the Catechism is available for free at usccb.org/beliefs-and-teachings/what-we-believe/catechism/catechism-of-the-catholic-church/epub/index.cfm
 
As a seeker you might want to check in to the Catechism by section.

Whatever particular question or issue you have you can look up in the subject index and get great material from the particular part of the Catechism which relates to it. There will be scriptural notes and early church fathers as well as from our Popes.

The Catechism is quite large so taking it in small bites is a good idea.

I believe it is Porknpie who has a link in his sig on how to read the Catechism in a year.
