misericordie:
Today as I was thinking of this: Ifelt like breaking down and weeping, seriously, the thoughts again of my misery in not finding anyone is really painful for me.
Being alone is not easy. I know it is hard on my daughters that are in the mid 20’s. I married at 27, and I remember the last few years before I did marry that it was getting more difficult. My daughters remind me of those times when they make comments. I pray that they find someone to share their life with, but I am more worried about them staying in the church. I see them drift occasionally and that is really more important than marriage. At least you have that part of your life in order.

Know that you are not alone and that God has a plan for you. I tell my girls that all the time. It is better to be alone than with the wrong person. I have included you in my 54 day novena for all the young people I know to find Catholic people to date. I hope that you get involved in things at your church or diocese, so that you are surrounding yourself with good people. You are in my prayers.

I had a decade plus of living the young adult/adult single, celibate lifestyle beofre I met my wife. God used this time to purify my love for Him more, to develop my prayer life and personal discipleship relationship with Him, to give me the freedom to know intellectually and experientially that He is all that I need for my true happiness and fulfilment, and to wean/detach from those things that keep my too focused on myself. In short, He used this singlenes time to humble me, purify my affections, establish Kingdom based priorities, and learn the value of daily personal prayer. I attained a certain level of freedom and contentment to accept God’s will for my life and daily living as a single person.

This greatly prepared me for and continues to pay dividends in my married vocation. Brave now to say, but I can honestly say that though I never would have chosen them, the the often times “desert barreness” and feeling misfit years of my single existance years worked godspeed in moving me along in my spiritual and otherwise maturity–I wouldn’t trade them for anything. Also, surprisingly before I met my wife, I was wholy resigned to a life of single living if this was God’s plan. Important though, to have a network of supportive friends who accept you as an “aging” single person. God bless.

Dear Misericrodie:

Please pray as to whether the door that is to be opened is that of the Sacred Priesthood.

I’ve read your posts (I really have), and I’ve seen that you have the patience of Job and the wisdom of…(OK, I won’t lay it on so thick!), but just consider it. OK?

I understand that I could be absolutely full of it, and that this wouldn’t be the first time.

Meanwhile, I will pray for you, and you’re a good and decent man. And, I’m sure you’d be a much better husband than I was.

Blessings!

In Christ, Michael

You are in my prayers bro…hang in there and God Bless

Hello all. I want to ask all of you o please pray for me. I have been feeling so down and depressed lately, and I feel this inner void of which it seems nothing has been able to get me out of. I think that part of the problem is due to two things: 1. I cannot seem to find a job doing what I know is my vocation: TEACHING religion in a Catholic School. 2. the fact that I am a 34 year old guy(though i look 26-27) who still has not found his soul mate, and the fear of staying alone in that sense.
Thank you all for your prayers: sincerely, misericordie: Jan.1, 2005. :crying:

I have though of it, and visited seminaries, but once in their something is missing and I feel very lonely.

Oh my Jesus, meek and humble of heart, deliver me from the desire of being loved.

I’m 40 and single and I too know what you feel, but there is plenty good you can do in the single state too. Try the Litany of humility. He really will help you.

Peace

You also may need perspective friend. Career, money, even health, are at best temporal blessings. Our’s isn’t a name-it-claim-it faith. In the same way, unemployment, poverty and poor health aren’t curses. You know this from scripture.

Please don’t take me as presumptuous. This comes from one of the worst “poor me” practitioners on the planet (I’m working it out in fear and trembling).

Maybe you are trying to tell God what your vocation is rather than asking? Look up a few saints. How many of them had the careers they had in mind?

Chin up friend. Our Lord has a plan for your life – I’m sure of it. He has already given you the blessing that counts… the grace of saving faith.

From another angle, consider that your depression may be physiological rather than situational. It is okay to need (and obtain) help with that.

Yet another… Feelings… any emotions, can be the result of action (or the lack of it). Decide that you will do something, anything. For too many of us, our emotions determine our actions. Decide instead that your actions will determine your emotions. Then carry out your decision.

If you really… really… really think that you want to teach in a Catholic school… I suggest that you should write down 10 actions you will take in the next 30 days that will bring you closer to your goal. If you can’t think of 10 things, I suggest a first action would be to research the necessary knowledge/skills/attributes of someone who has achieved your goal. No one will lay out a red carpet for you for any goal (if someone did, achieving goals wouldn’t be very satisfying).

The best advice I have received yet.

Yup. From my own experience, no one but oneself and God will help either, neither family etc. People who have positions of power and COULD help me with this type of job, and know my situation, could care less too. SAD.

Do not despair that God never abandones any of us. Keep looking up and he will find the asnwers to all your questions and desires.

Remmember that God loves you and do not give more than you can handle. I’ll be praying for you.

May God bless you and our blessed mother guide you.

Well since God is outside of time, maybe my prayer can be retroactive to 3 years ago when this thread was created!

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

God Bless
In Jesus through Mary

so what I am knew and did not notice…what is the big deal. Maybe know it all this person still in need.
Thank God there is only one GOD.

There is no big deal. I am praying for this person just like you. It is true that God is outside of time and that our prayers can be applied to the person anytime. So our prayers now can affect this persons situation 3 years ago when they needed them. It is true. We can also pray for people who are already dead too for their conversion before they died. Saint Padre Pio used to pray for his dad that he would have a happy death years after he died a happy death 🙂

Whenever an old post is brought up, I always say a prayer for that persons intentions with the knowledge that God is outside of time and will apply my prayer back in time or use it for another purpose. No prayer goes to waste.

God Bless

I will keep you in my daily prayers. I’ll ask that the Holy Spirit inspires you to see that you are here for a purpose, and for God to guide towards that purpose. God bless you–leave your pain at His altar.

I hope all things have worked out well for you. My prayers go out to you. Merry Christmas! 🙂

You are in my prayers.
In my opinion god is ethier calling you to the priesthood or religious life.
