Yes,yes and yes I agree. All the above. Yes and you’re right we have talked about advertising on all 4 Parish bulletinboards.

Ok so more for me to consider.

So what name falls in the middle?

Catholic but not too Catholic?

Ok maybe a vote.

Thanks again all.

I have started thinking that if you want to attract other religions to buy from your bookstore & gifts that maybe you should include in the name of your store;
Christian, Angels…,
There are several none Christian religions that also believe in Angels.
They will want to buy statues of Angels and other Angel things.

how about “trinity books” or “tabernacle gifts” , “house of Fatima”’ “house of lourdes” something along those lines

there’s already a place called the Catholic store in Denver, and I don’t know if you can use a same name in a different state

I mean its very simple. Easy to remember. It says it all don’tcha think?

that Catholic store

…Don’t you just love God?! He is so great.
I’d love to shoppin’ at That Catholic Store!!
You’re in my prayers.

And amen.

Thank you very much. I know there is no way to please everyone.

But I would like to 😛

I think you should interview some of the people who own Catholic book stores to see what is selling more… the books… or the other items that they sell.
Maybe gifts will be selling more than books. I usually buy Saint statues and saint medals at Catholic stores.

I didn’t have alot of time for explaining because I was on my lunch break at work.😊 sorry if sounded harsh.

Sometimes things sound harsh, even when it’s not meant to be harsh, on forums. I guess thats why there are “smilies”😛

Thank you for helping. I really do appreciate it.👍

Yup. Thats what I’ve been doing. I love to read and buy books but I’m thinking of all those people who when you walk into their house you can’t tell they’re Catholic. What identifies them as being Catholic?

When we bought and built our first home and had it blessed by our local priest he looked around when he was talking and said how you can’t tell if people are Catholic because there isn’t anything in their homes as a clue to that persons faith.

That is what I am aiming for. Catholic Identity.

In my condo you will find photos of Blessed Mother that I have painted myself in my living room and bedroom. You will also find statues of saints and Angels in my living room and bedroom.

Did those people that you interviewed say that the books sold less than the Catholic items? I have a feeling that books are not selling as well as other items in Catholic stores.

I wouldn’t call it a bookstore if the books are not selling as well as the Catholic items and gifts.

This certainly wasn’t true in my family. Crucifixes in all the bedrooms with palms fitted behind them. Statues of Sacred heart, Blessed Virgin, Two very large statues in the dining room, one of Jesus and the other of St Anne and The Blessed Mother as a child, a certificate dedicating the family to the Sacred heart.
That’s what I can think of off the top of my head. I can probaly come up with more with time.

Peace
James

Yes but see the Catholics on this forum are not like some out in the real world. I mean think about those in your family or friends who you know are Catholic but when you walk through their homes you don’t see anything that says “I’m Catholic”.

For me,a cradle Catholic who when in her 20’s, the things that identified me as a Catholic were things that I could put into a drawer, like a rosary or a prayer card. I was a “closet Catholic” not on purpose but my spiritual life was always so private. You know just between God and me.

I am just in the last year or two coming out of my closet. With crucifixes above everyones beds and above doorways and holy water fonts at every door. As well as statues of our Mother and a big family Bible in our foyer. And an altar in our hallway between all the bedrooms with a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and another of Mary along with books about our faith. A wall rosary in a doorway and candles here and there.

I truly believe our home is a domestic church. We are our childrens primary teachers and one hour at church is not enough to balance out with what the rest of the world wants to teach our children.

But when and where I grew up we couldn’t and still can’t find those sacramentals to place in our homes.I want to change that. It’s going to take some time but I will with the help of God.

You know when people come into your home and they see those things that identify you as a Catholic you are evangelizing without saying a word.👍

I know alot of people are wanting Scott Hahn’s books and cd’s as well as Tim Staples so yes books sale but I’m going to have alot of different sacramentals to choose from.

I remember when I was a child it gave me a lot of comfort to see the photo of the Guardian Angel watching the little girl and boy as they were walking in the woods.
There were times when I would be afraid to go to sleep in the dark bedroom so that Guardian Angel was protecting me from my own fears.

I live in an area that has three cities next to one another. With a combined pop. of about 145,000. people. In total there are 4 Catholic Parishes all within 15 minutes of eachother. We had at one church at the Easter Vigil over 40 baptisms and 30 confirmations and 3 converts. There are three Bible book stores. Non of which cater to Catholics. So I am doing my homework on how to go about opening a store. To serve our community better.

Where you come in…

I am drawing a blank for a name. So if you want to share with me your creativity it would greatly be appriciated. I want it to be Catholic enough.

The suggestions I’ve had so far?

1.JMJ’s----Jesus,Mary and Joseph’s

2.The Upper Room

3.The Alpha & Omega

God has been leading, pushing and sometimes pulling me this way. I am now responding. But I need my brothers and sisters to help me.

Thank you in advance.
If you want to have the potential to evangelize people who “accidentally” come into the store, I would give the store a generic name rather than a Saint or a Marian name. If you want it to be obvious that it is a Catholic store, then I would give it a saint or Marian name.

Catholic Stores in my area are: The Catholic Store, Easter’s Catholic Books & Gifts, Touch of Faith, Celestial Catholic Books & Gifts and Heavenly Books & Gifts

I also vote for “the upper room”…

or maybe something involving words like: Paraclete, Victory, Saviour, Living Water, or Christian Life…

I’d second James… Giving the book store a name that is “neutral” can bring in all kinds of Christians and when they are there, if they find themselves uncomfortable, you can talk with them as a brother in Christ and recommend them some gentle Catholic books that fit the spirituality they are already in…

Hm… I am already seeing the great potential in your book store and I think its a great inititive. 👍
God bless you.

When we were getting ready to open our 3rd Catholic Store, I came up with the name, “On the way to Heaven”, my husband did not care for the idea, I thought it was cute. How about Divine Mercy Books & Gifts? That was another idea I had.
