It could describe me sometimes but actually it comes from a friend of mine. Just when that friend said it, there was almost vengeance in their tone. As if they were getting their payback, by holding a grudge. As if they have a list of offenders, from worst to not too bad. As if to say, those who are not “in my good book”, will suffer.
It struck me that we can all fall for this illusion of power. That holding someone accountable for our pain, will somehow punish them. I’m not saying that those of you who suffered traumatic abuse, don’t have a good reason to never forgive. Just those of us who cop minor to average abuse/insult/harassment. Maybe we need to move on. And not act as if “we are God and how dare they cross us”!
The more humble souls are able to move on. It is often tied to ego, I’m afraid.
