did you have a 401k, yessian? (not meaning to pry) But, you could tap into that if need be.

I would consider a lawsuit for hostile work enviornment. The constant yelling and screaming and demands to clean her house certainly qualify. You don’t have to be boorish and look for $10 million, but a year’s severence would be plenty fair for all the grief she put you through.

If only I could afford a lawyer… but most likely I’ll just be reporting her to the dept of labor. I still have the forms they sent me last month.

Nope… she didn’t offer any benefits so I don’t even have that. And we already spent all our saved up money (from our CD) making up for the money I wasn’t making to pay the mortgage and property taxes.

I really messed up quitting…

No no no–you did not mess up quitting.:tsktsk: You can’t look at this in that way.:o But, what’s done is done, as my husband says–“it is what it is.”🤷 So, now–you might have to temp or do something like that, in the meantime of seeking out other employment. God always provides. I would call the EEOC–they might have pro bono lawyers who would take a look at your case. And truth in numbers–you said others have quit under the horrible working conditions, too. She is not allowed to verbally assault you–in a bar doing that to another patron, she’d be arrested. I would just give it a try–all they can say is…you have no case.

Agree - you did what you did and it is done. Now, time to plan and move forward.

My advice, all of your effort right now should go into finding

1 Short term cash to pay the mortgage and bills

2 A job

Focus on filing the legal stuff later. Take care of the urgent things first. Food and shelter. Do not be afraid to go to a food pantry to get through, or to ask for help from family.

If losing your house is looming - then. put it on the market today. If you can sell it for just what you owe against it, it might be worth looking into.

Maybe I didn’t mess up by quitting, but I’m starting to feel the monetary pressure. I’m only going to get 31 hrs worth of a check. DH is working Saturdays so he can make a bit more money for us. At least we still have the “lodger” in our house and is following our rules(for now), so DH didn’t tell him to leave.

I’ve been thinking I can go to the Mall and apply for a retail job for now. I worked retail since I was 16 till I was 23. I’m 26, so that shouldn’t be a problem. I still did customer service since I worked in the real estate market… I’m getting a bit worried though.

And about contacting a lawyer… I don’t think I can sue. Why do it anyway? It won’t fix anything, at least, I don’t think.

Maybe when my mom comes back from Chile she can see if I can get a job where she works. She’s a director of 2 clinics… maybe she can help me.

But at least I’m starting my externship at a clinic thanks to my aunt. All I have to do is submit my paperwork to my school registrar’s office and I can start training for my future and ideal job. I have 2 months left of school and 160 hrs to fulfill for my externship. At least I have that going…

You GO, Girl!

I think working 80 hours a week for peanuts would be better than working one hour a week for your former boss!

I just called the mortgage company to see what my options were regarding refinancing or anything that could help, but sadly, they gave me very bad news. We paid $437K for the house, and they told me that because California’s housing market is so bad, my house for them, is only worth $389K. We’ve only had the house for 7 months and we owe more than $400K. 😦

My aunt was thinking of filing bankruptcy since her house payments are way too high and DH is telling me we should do the same. But I really don’t want to ruin my credit. The house loan is on my name because DH had never had 1 credit card and had no credit history, so we’d be hurting a lot more if I ruined my credit. We woudln’t even be able to rent an apt if we filed for bankruptcy or let the house go into foreclosure.

So, even if we sold the house, we’d be losing money.

I didn’t read all the posts but I read your first post. Praise the Lord you decided to take care of yourself and get away from that evil person. Give it to God and let him take care of you. I had a job with evil coworks no and a crazy boss years ago. I lasted only a couple of months. That was when I was younger and stupid. There’s never a time when it’s worth putting up with such behavior it only makes your life stressfull to say the least. 👍

sometimes, suing isn’t for us–it’s to prevent the person from hurting others. Think like Norma Rae!😃 Ok all joking aside–seroiusly, you never know–you could be awarded some punitive damages, and it would send a message to her that she can not be an office bully. (that’s actually the corporate term that is used here where I work, and people are asked to whistle blow if they are victims of such a person)

You did the right thing–don’t look back–just look forward–and retail could be your short term answer. I’m glad to hear your tenant is doing better–that’s a plus!

Yay!!! I have an interview on Thursday!! Well, group interview, but I’m sure I will do good. Please pray for me! I hope I can get this job! It’s to work with children and it has to do with my major (Psychology - note that is not what I’m studying right now. I got my BA in 2004 and now I’m studying to work in a hospital setting).

Prayer ascending, Yessi! Please, Lord: mercy. Strength, courage, and mercy!

Except some lawyers will do it on ‘contingency’ where they take a part of the judgement or settlement. The standard is 1/3 to 1/2.

The second option is to do a pro se filing, where you represent yourself. Some courts have pro se assistance offices where the court itself would help you.

I would look into it. Suing is to collect damages because they inflicted pain on you.

As to your bank, it’s in their best interest to keep you in that house and paying the mortgage. If you paid $427k and it’s now only worth $389, they don’t want you to default. Repossessing the house and reselling will cost them far more then letting you skip a couple of mortgage payments until you get another job. So you probably could work out something with them. Bankruptcy is not the solution. I don’t know California’s laws, but I doubt you get a “free” house if you declare bankruptcy.

I’ll be praying for you too.
