Frankly, I don’t have any problem with there “ranks” or a hierarchy of angels, but I don’t see how the concept of some of these choirs came into being.
These are the ones that have got me looped:
Principalities
Powers
Dominations
Virtues
Thrones
I read Colossians 1:16 and a few other verses that are referenced on some web sites about these supposed angels, and well, it is isn’t designating angels. It’s plainly obvious that it’s not. Am I missing some symbolism here?
“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.” Col 1:16
Thrones: Thrones are chairs that kings sit on. They symbolize power, authority, lordship, and dominion. These are all qualities that Christ has.
Powers: Persons in positions of authority have power. It is the means by which they exercise their will.
Each of the words used to name these groups of angels has a meaning, and within the context of the scriptures where they are found, they are speaking of what they literally mean. What am I missing?
And don’t just cop out and tell me I’m missing tradition or grace or something like that. I want a real answer, give me a real, critical insight into what I am missing here.
