The point I’m trying to clarify is I think the sin occurs when one has contracepted intercourse, not when one swallows the BCP.

If you’re in Confession, I think that’s the “count” you try and give.

I’m still not sure if I am correct on this point though.

The scenerio you described is discussed in specific Church documents, although I don’t have them readily available. I believe the non-contracepting spouse commits no sin.

Perhaps someone might want to consider a flipside. What if a married woman takes the pill contraceptively for a bit without having any relations, say she is preparing for when her husband gets shoreleave or something, and then, right before her husband gets home, she repents of her decision. Can she have relations with him or not? For right now, ignore that the pill might have an abortive effect.
