I am a Christian who is searching around currently, but I pray for the day when we all will fulfill the prayer of our Lord, that we all might be as one. So I decided to make a list of the things that, I believe, might unite us.

#1. God is made up of The Father, Son, And The Holy Spirit, but there is one God. In Other words, The Holy Trinity.

#2. Jesus, The Son Of God, came down to earth, was Born of the Virgin Mary, Died For Our sins, was buried, and on the third day rose from the dead, defeating death and Satan. He ascended into Heaven and now sits at the right hand of God The Father almighty, From where He shall return for His Church someday.

#3. There is a Heaven and a Hell ( and a Purgatory for some denominations) but to sum it all up, there is judgment after death.

#4. Morals A.K.A sin do not change. Things like abortion, homosexuality, lying, cheating, stealing, etc… Do not change just because society thinks it should change.

5#. The Bible is very important to Christianity (Whether you believe in sola scriptura or not).

6#. We are to love our neighbor, help our fellowman, spread the gospel, and participate in our government and society. I believe its our duty as Christians.

7#. The ONLY WAY to Heaven is through Jesus Christ. Not Buddha, Mohammad, etc.

So these things I believe, can not only unite us, but keep the liberal Christians on the run, you know the ones who pretty much say “if it offence thee, rip it out” when looking at the Bible. The ones who go around saying there is no hell, homosexuality and abortion are just fine, there’s no such thing as sin, pretty much everything that is contrary to scripture. They annoy me. Anyways, I hope we can unite one day, and I don’t mean create a new Church or anything like that, I mean keep your traditions and your beliefs, but unite on what unites us all, because to tell you the truth, I see dark days coming on the horizon. The world is becoming more secular and hatful towered us, and Christians are being muzzled and persecuted, like those Catholic adoption agencies in MASS. That had to Close because they would not allow same-sex couples to adopt, and with this government, I feel more is to come.

I think of us like soldiers, our uniforms are all different colors (different denominations) But all we do is fight with one another, without realizing that on all our uniforms is a cross, That’s what unites us, And as we fight, we don’t see the devil and his army march right past us, even slaying some of us in the process. So If you have more ideas on things that can unify us, please do post, also post your opinions and thoughts. Thanks so much, and may the whole World be United to Christ, and May HE Bless you all! :o 🙂 😃 😛 😉

P.S. Sorry For any mistakes or anything like that. I was typing fast and am 17 so my mind is all over the place, LOL!

I agree with your assessment, and that Christian disunity is really impeding the spreading of the Gospel. If we fight each other, we weaken our fight against secularism. 🤷

I totally agree with you. May God Bless you! :hug3:

Yes I agree with your points.

Welcome 🙂 I hope you stick around and learn more about Catholism.

I agree.

May the Lord have mercy upon his people and bring unity to the Christian Church.

Sorry, I can’t agree with Purgatory only for SOME Christians. Unless of course you mean that some can become Saints here on earth before they die, I know that is possible but don/t believe it happens alot. IF thats what you meant then I agree with the purgatory issue.

If not I do not believe ANYONE escapes Purgatory only those already perfected in Christ on this earth before they die.

Onward Christian Soldiers. The One Holy Catholic Church is not a denomination. Protestants denominated from the One Holy Catholic Church and have denominated in numbers to your different uniforms. Christianity is united in Worship by the Eucharist, which is Christ. Christ is the center of the Church, Worship and action from which all else flows. Without unity in worship there is disunity. The agreement starts here with Christ in worship. Disagreement commences with denial of this fact.

The denominations you speak of have wavered on issues like homosexuality, abortion, birth control and divorce and remarriage.

The Bible was birthed by that same OHCAC. I appreciate your wanting to join our sentiment in proposing the truth to the world.👍

Thanks. I plan on going to get a Catechism this week from a local Catholic bookstore. Research a bit and then visit a Catholic Church. Very nervous and exited. LOL!

Well yes, technically the Catholic Church is not a denomination, but as for the Eucharist (I do believe in the real presence myself) uniting Christianity, I have to politely disagree. Now I know Holy Communion unites the CC, but what unites all Christians is the cross. Remember, on the front of our uniforms? No matter what Church you go to, there is a cross, and on it, our Lord died for us, and when he arose from the grave, ascended into heaven, we were called Christians, followers of Christ.

As for Protestants wavering on issues like homosexuality and abortion, is sad and a disgrace to us. Morals.Never.Change.Period.

While I agree we are united by Christ and his Cross, it is not the only way. Christ COMMANDED the Apostles THIS IS my BODY which will be given up for you. DO this in memory of Me.

Now how could we all be called to the table of the Lord without the Eucharist???

I just wanted to make sure that we all knew there is a Heaven and there is a hell. Some churches, I am sad to say, teach that there is no hell. But we all can unite and agree that there will be judgment in the end. Now as for purgatory, all Christians believe in it in some sense. We all believe that when we die, we will be put under fire, by God, and be judged for our works, deeds, words, etc. Now is there an actual place between heaven and hell where you are put under fire, that’s where Christians start disagreeing.

Of coarse, communion is something that almost all Christians do. But there are disagreement on whether it is actually the body and blood of Christ. Now I was really surprised that Martin Luther believed in the true presence, thats what led me to believe it also. I think if more Christians knew Luther’s position, we might change minds.

That eliminates the majority of pre-Nicene Council Christians.

Amber
Pre-Nicene Council Christians rejected The Creed?

Pre-Nicene Council Christians that accepted the Creed?

Are there any of the Pre-Nicene still alive?

You may want to do two things. The first is to look at all denominations in Protestant thought that attempted to unite. That is an interesting journey.

The second thing you may want to consider is what divided the Church in 1600. The OHCAC stayed the same. Those that denominated, denominated in worship and all else flowed from that. You may want to visit the post on the Real Presence. There are still some active 16th century minds active there denying the Real Presence that makes further dialogue difficult.

In college there are Majors and Minors. The Eucharist is a Major. This is why the OHCAC can discuss the possibility to unity with the Orthodox as they share the Eucharist. Unity flows from worhsiping the Same God the same way. All else flows from that.

The OHCAC says that the unity of the Churches, Orthodox and Roman is the Eucharist. What unites you and other denominations to the OHCAC is Baptism, by which you are provided the gifts of Faith, Hope and Charity, that we see active in you as you present your thoughts. Where you waiver in these we disagree.
The ones who go around saying there is no hell, homosexuality and abortion are just fine, there’s no such thing as sin, pretty much everything that is contrary to scripture. They annoy me.
Mormons, Jehovah Witness are not pro-abortion and despite not fulfilling your elements of unity would say let’s all get together on this. As a Protestant absent any authority other than an idea where do you draw the line.

Sadly unity has to start at some point. The OHCAC has a magesterium and that line has been drawn with worship and the Eucharist. This is the starting point of dialogue. All else flows from that. What remains is whimsical ideas of how we can all raise our hands and say yay Jesus. That is good however does not accomplish unity. A mormon may say, well I believe in Jesus, why can’t I join hands and say, Yay.

You have good intention. I understand. You unfortunately from the Protestant paradigm have no authority to rest on other than the Bible, the Bible that was birthed by the OHCAC, with interpretations that vary as no Protestant on this earth declares their interpretation to be infallible. Being Protestant and wanting unity has to be a difficult proposition. Unity for Protestants is individual and not corporate. It sounds like with what you believe you are on your way towards unity as an individual.👍

What is sad is that is only in the first 500 years. We have more time to see more unfortunately. The Protestant paradigm of translating and interpreting the Bible and believing that the OHCAC needs reform gave birth through Protestant thought to Jehovah Witness on the first point and the Mormons on the second point. Despite the Nicene Creed that keeps those in the fold acknowledging an believing in the Trinity, through Protestant thought we have the Oneness Pentacostals that are not Trinitarian denying the Creed. What does the future hold. We have the Prosperity Gospel and who knows what else will emanate from the denominating Protestant paradigm.

Your desire to unite is nobile. If morals wavered, if doctrine wavers, if the cross has different meanings to different people as they denominate what might that single point of unity be. The Klu Klux Klan uses a cross. They are on fire with that cross.

You have a difficult task in your mind to unite.

The magesterium of the Church states, we believe, we practice, unity in the Eucharist. You don’t have to like this. You can disagree. You can propose another paradigm. You can restate your desire for unity. This is what the OHCAC has decided that the faithful are to unite under and because of. There is a certain wisdom in this I am sure you can see. This will not change.

There is a certain element of parenting involved if you look at it in the following way. I have children and I tell my children certain things and ask them to do certain things to keep them safe. The OHCAC like a parent has asked us to accept and love all, however when asked to venture off with those not of like mind to be cautious when asked to join in celebration. We have to discern what it is those that ask us to venture off into and away from as to what it really is and what we are really acknoweldging.

By large I agree with the OP. All Christians should follow this one simple teaching of the early church and todays CC also.

Discernment; to recognize mentally.

We stand on the plus/minus in the spirituality of our conscious mind. Its the greatest cause of evil in the world today. For you have to cooperate with it for it grow and become a true mechanism of satan. Understand what you are entertaining in YOUR mind. Polar opposites which push/pull like gravity in both directions.

To rationalize your good/God, thoughts/feelings is to cooperate with evil. The constant question must be; Is this Gods will? So then we as individuals are constantly accepting Gods will or rejecting it.

The Sisters use to tell us in grammer school God sits on one shoulder and the devil on the other, do not listen to the devil. Course thats for children. However its very accurate.

St Teresa of Avila summed this up nicely in one sentence; “Let nothing disturb you, God alone suffices” She is talking discernment.
