I joined the Mormon church a few months ago and I’m worried I made a mistake. The missionaires and the people there are very very very nice but they tell me that I’m not even welcome in the Catholic Church anymore.

I just don’t know what to do. I feel like the book of mormon has truth but I don’t know if I should be a Mormon. I know that makes no sense. I love the people and music and learning about God but I feel like I miss the Mass.

Any thoughts?

I am not a Catholic but I can assure you that you would always be welcome in the Catholic church. What the Mormons told you is not true; they are just trying to scare you into being too afraid to even go back to the Catholics.

Please dont believe that, your more than welcome to come back home to Christs true church. Please, do not ever think you will not be welcomed home, you will be welcomed home with open arms and the love of Jesus awaits you! (not that he doesnt already love you, but he will want you home with the rest of his flock) 👍

Go to mass. 🙂 Everyone should be there.

Come on back to mass! Get a couple of good Catholic books and seek to deepen your understanding of the Catholic faith. You’ll be delighted at what you find.

I am a Catholic who joined the Mormons when I was 21. After a few years I realized I had made a huge mistake and eventually left. Now I am back in the Catholic faith and very happy.

God love you,
Paul

The amount of people who do that never ceases to amaze me!

Hi Q,

I’m a Mormon, but I know enough about Catholicism to know that you would be welcome back. A lot of people have had their Catholic friends and family get extremely angry at them and ostracize them for joining the Mormons, though. Mormon missionaries are typically pretty young and naive–I was–and sometimes regular Mormon members don’t know much about other religions. So if I were you, I would ask questions about Catholicism to your local parish priest.

I’d be happy to help you sort out any questions about Mormonism, though, if you want to e-mail me through my profile, or post questions in this forum.

Yes, you made a big mistake for joining the LDS, but this doesn’t mean you cannot make it right again.

It is not true that the Church won’t welcome you. The Church welcomes all sinners as Jesus welcomed all sinners. All you need to do is to go back and go to Confession. The whole Heaven will be rejoice.

After that, if there is any confusion about the Catholic faith, you can always ask here at CAF, some spiritual director or your priest.

If you miss mass, you can always go tomorow.

God bless! 🙂

I grew up mormon and when I went to RCIA they had no problem with me being Mormon. I was even ready to go on a LDS mission. What I am getting at is you are always welcome in God’s house. Come back to mass and talk with a preist. Jesus does not turn His back on anyone. Do really think that God would leave you because you went to another faith? There is good in every faith, never forget that.

Join the club. I joined the Mormon Church when I was 19. I was baptized into the Catholic Church two years ago. Just go tell your priest you are sorry you ever joined the Mormon Church. Then resign from the Mormon Church. This web site tells you how to do it:

Dear Bart,

For the record, I am an active member of the LDS church but have spent hundreds of hours doing cross-religious studies comparing various world religions. I have a number of great Catholic friends that I respect and admire for the way they live their lives.

Personally, I think that it okay to be LDS and still have fond memories of other ways you have worshiped Christ. I don’t think that converting to Mormonism is a mistake in that you abandon past religious beliefs. I think conversion (in general) is a process that builds upon your past experience and brings you closer to Christ.

I, an no-one for that matter, can tell you what to do. Yet, you have a loving Heavenly Father that is willing to direct you to what is right. I encourage you to pray and ask God what to do. I’ve known Mormons who are active in the faith who still attend mass on occasion. Seek for an answer from the Holy Ghost. In 1 Corinthians 2: 11/12 it states, “But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save teh spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.”

I personally became converted to the faith because I read the Book of Mormon and God reveled to me, in a sacred and undeniable way, that it was true. I wish you luck on your decision, and remember, God loves you and will guide you.

-Sincerely Mark

P.S. I do not wish to offend by the boldness of my post. I’m simply sharing what I have come to know.

so as an update the missionaries met with me yesterday again all concerned. Saying I would lose the gift of the holy ghost.

Well then I got to talking about finding my Catholic choir book and missing the songs in it. The missionies asked if they could take the book with them andcame backl this afternoon with a list of songs that we shared in common.

I don’t know how I feel about this… I love the music in the mass and well I guess I just don’t know why knowing what songs we have in common will help me. I just don’t know where to go tommorrow-- mass or to sacrament

I know this is a weird topic and I’m really sorry for asking this advice

I agree with BDawg - go to mass and to sacrament meeting. Pay close attention to where the real worship of God takes place.

Remember, your first and best duty is to worship God who created you.

God love you,
Paul

honestly I rather go to Mass but I’m so scared if I leave the Mormon church that I will lose the gift of the Holy Ghost
