I think I’m cursed. I nearly choked on my food this morning. I accidentally hit my head on the open trunk of my dad’s car. I got assaulted by some stranger on the street a couple days ago. These are just some of the things that have been happening to me and I don’t know why. Is this demonic oppression?

You can also ask your father to bless you and you will receive blessings

I think fr rippenger talks about it too,

I’m sorry to hear you were assaulted. I hope you made it safely away without injury?

No, it doesn’t sound like it. We all choke on our food sometimes, and we all bump our heads.

If bad fortune seems unusually concentrated to you right now, remember that coincidence (and normal inconvenience/accidents) are the most likely reason.

Check out Jimmy Akin’s recent podcast episode if you’re interested in a solid Catholic perspective on curses!

Don’t talk nonsense, you think you’re the only one who has had bad things happen to them, it’s part of life, if that’s all you’ve got to complain about then think yourself lucky and get over it. You’re not cursed.

I think Derek prince talks of blessings and curses. Your father or someone in authority can curse you, but you can break it by asking Jesus to break it by his sacrifice on the cross
Sounds like superstition to me.

If you think you are cursed the best two prayers to pray is the St. Michael prayer and the Breastplate of St. Patrick. I recommend the breastplate. Hope this helps you

It’s all in how you look at life. Things could be better, yes, but they could be a whole lot worse. Thank God for all of the good each day, and pray for all those who are truly struggling with their lives. 🙂

I know I’m not cursed it’s just my life sucks right now.
I’m sorry to hear you feel your life sucks right now. If it’s any consolation, I’ll offer you from my experience that just as bad experiences seem to ‘cluster’ all at once, good experiences tend to, too (so you can look forward to those in future, even if it seems hard to see right now!)

I’ll add that apparently there’s even a psychological phenomenon behind the clustering: apparently whatever ‘mood’ we’re in at a given moment, we’re more able to remember times in the past when we felt the same way, and less able to remember times in the past when we felt differently. So when we’re sad, we remember all the sad times – and feel even sadder, as if our lives have been nothing but sadness, because that’s all we can remember. But the encouraging thing is, when we feel happy, we remember happier times more easily – and that reinforces our happiness too.

One thing that helped me during a rough patch was writing down one ‘good thing’ to remember from every day (or from every week, if every day seems rough to you) and put them in a jar. (Or my grandma wrote hers in a notebook; we decided to do this for a year and then share our favourite memories.) Some weeks, the only good thing I’d notice and write down would be: “A bird sang really beautifully in the street,” or “A person smiled at me in the store and that was nice.” But the more I looked out for good things to notice, the more I automatically noticed good things, and the more I was able to write down. And then I could look into the jar when I needed to remember good things.

Just a thought. I’m sorry to hear you’re going through a rough patch, and I hope things start looking brighter soon!

If one flips a coin it will average to 50% each side, over a long time, but there can be repeated single side occur without significance. Similarly, there may be no connection between these events so.

It’s not that curses aren’t real. It’s that people are too quick to assume things like curses and demonic oppression and whatnot. It’s not like they’re not real; it’s just that they’re rare and you shouldn’t jump to that conclusion.

It’s like someone who has a scratchy throat and immediately assumes it’s a rare form of cancer. Recognizing that it’s probably just a cold doesn’t imply that cancer isn’t real.

@Jacob1

We’ve all gone through tough times. And my heart goes out to you.

Many of us find meaning by uniting our pain with Christ’s Passion
for the salvation of souls.

I also suggest you read “Story of a Soul,” the memoir of St. Thérèse
of Lisieux. This great saint and doctor of the church writes candidly
and simply about her great pains and struggles. And she also teaches
the Little Way. The book changed my life. Stick with the John Clarke
translation.

God bless you and I hope that helps.

Sure, it’s just the first thing you should investigate is the more mundane, likely explanation. If you have a bad day, the most likely explanation is, well, you had a bad day. Not you’ve been cursed by a demon.

Yes, you are cursed.

The curse: human nature.

Still, I am sorry you were assaulted. That is awful.

St Teresa of Avila once was riding on a horse and got kicked off. She looked to heaven and said “If this is how You treat your Your friends, no wonder You have so few.”

Think of those missionaries who volunteer to go to seemingly cursed places.
Of course, it is the duty of a true follower of Christ to go where it is most difficult and there to bring light in the dark.
Therefore, there are ministers who voluntarily go where poverty, wars, hunger, devastation, epidemics.
Unfortunately, most of us are not so strong in spirit.
