Last Sunday I went to a nearby Methodist church with my family. I guess it was an ok service - some rather lame music, lots of friendly people, and an average sermon. The only thing that really bothered me was that the minister was a woman (I don’t know why that bothered me - it just did.)
On Monday I checked out the local Catholic church, and I was totally blown away by it. First of all, it was open.
Protestant churches are never open on week days. So it felt very welcoming, very open. Secondly, the building itself was quite lovely. Ah heck, it was the prettiest church I’ve ever been in (and I’ve lived in Europe for some time
)! There were also a number of people gathered inside it, worshipping quietly (without a pastor - imagine that!), so there was this enormous sense of community.
I don’t really know how to explain it, but this church just felt so right. At the Methodist church, I didn’t feel like we (the congregation) were worshipping the Lord - I felt like the service was more of a social club with Christian flavoring than anything else. At the Catholic church, it felt like I was standing in His presence.
Anyways, I’m sorry for the rant. I really just wanted to say that if this church is representative of the Roman Catholic Church, I know where my heart belongs.
