Last Sunday I went to a nearby Methodist church with my family. I guess it was an ok service - some rather lame music, lots of friendly people, and an average sermon. The only thing that really bothered me was that the minister was a woman (I don’t know why that bothered me - it just did.)

On Monday I checked out the local Catholic church, and I was totally blown away by it. First of all, it was open. 😃 Protestant churches are never open on week days. So it felt very welcoming, very open. Secondly, the building itself was quite lovely. Ah heck, it was the prettiest church I’ve ever been in (and I’ve lived in Europe for some time 😉 )! There were also a number of people gathered inside it, worshipping quietly (without a pastor - imagine that!), so there was this enormous sense of community.

I don’t really know how to explain it, but this church just felt so right. At the Methodist church, I didn’t feel like we (the congregation) were worshipping the Lord - I felt like the service was more of a social club with Christian flavoring than anything else. At the Catholic church, it felt like I was standing in His presence.

Anyways, I’m sorry for the rant. I really just wanted to say that if this church is representative of the Roman Catholic Church, I know where my heart belongs.

Maybe the Lord let you feel that you were ‘nearer’ to Him than ever before? I highly suggest you pick up the book entitled, Spirit of Catholicism by Karl Adam…it is probably the best single book written on the Church and Christ that I have ever read! It’s only about 250 pages.

May this be the beginning to your journey home to the fulness of Truth in Christ True Church!

I feel exactly the same way, but I am a cradle Catholic so my testimony does not carry the same weight as yours…I believe everything you felt was genuine. The Catholic Church needs more people who are awestruck by her…follow your heart.

God bless you! You felt Him there, and His Church in the form of both edifice and worshippers. That is what I always felt as a kid when entering a Catholic church, and why I converted as a teen. I can still go into even the plainest, humblest mission church and feel His presence the way I felt in when I went into the beautiful cathedrals in Tucson and SLC.
 
This is exactly how I felt a few years ago - totally in love! Then I joined the Catholic Church this past Easter and now get to feel that same love everyday for the rest of my life. I’ve never found such a reverent, sacred, beautiful, meaningful (I could go on and on) religion in my life.

I was raised in an Assembly of God church, it seemed that everyone was there just to show off. Whomever cried the hardest and loudest was surely the most devoted, right? Whomever was the most flamboyant in their dancing had to love God the most, right? Not so. The Catholic Faith is so humbling, so personal yet all of us are in union with one another. Its amazing, one can go to a Mass in San Diego, CA and one can go to a Mass in Tokyo and they will both hear the same readings, partake in the same sacred sacraments, etc.

Yes, its definitely beautiful. Anyone who is Catholic and anyone who is non-Catholic that get’s to experience the Mass is blessed beyond words.

I know what you mean. I’m a Catholic convert, just recently as well. I’m not officially Catholic, but I will be doing RCIA when it starts. It feels good to be home doesn’t it?

wanted to share that with some sympathetic ears.

Anyways, now I’m just waiting impatiently for Mass. Saturday really can’t get here quick enough :D.

I did not fully understand this as a Protestant, but now as a Catholic I agree with it wholeheartedly. There is a presence in the Church which is lacking anywhere else; something (more specifically, someone) that each of us seeks more than anything else in the world and which speaks to us in the deepest depths of our being.
