Here’s what a news bulletin claims Pope Francis
said:“Atheists who do good can go to heaven”

We know that the godless and sinners, if they don’t REPENT
will have a very slim chance at even approaching God, no
matter if they do good. The Bible says that all good things we
do may not be God’s will. See Heb. 13:21
 
  1. Be careful about interpreting the Bible yourself.
  2. How do you know that an atheist might not suddenly repent of his unbelief upon death when he actually sees and experiences God? If Mr. Atheist had lived an otherwise good and upright life, would not a merciful God give him that one final chance to accept God?
  3. Doing good is loving your neighbor, which is essentially, loving God through loving others.

Did you actually read the article? There is nothing new in the article. Nothing surprising. Nothing that has “crossed” any line. What line are you speaking of?

Read Gaudium et Spes. Read the Catechism paragraphs 846-848. Read the many other documents of the Church.
 
Okay, I guess I jumped to the conclusion w/o
reading the article, sorry for sounding the alarm
w/o first finding out what the Pope REALLY is
saying.
 
God saves whom He will. As to this news article or that, this gossip or that, I pay less and less attention as time goes by. If a human heart is seeking the truth and wills to do what is naturally good, but never manages to arrive at the entire truth, we allow God to judge that heart. Some ignorance cannot be overcome, but it is the underlying heart which the Lord judges. Even the most pious Christian relies 100% on God’s grace to enter heaven. Not a single one of us can merit heaven by our own faith, good works or both.

Each and every Pope has been controversial, as he is the vicar of Christ and this world hates Christ. Charity is the rule of the Christian. In all things, we are called by charity to assume a good heart and pure motivation in things that the Holy Father says and does. There are many things in this life which we cannot comprehend, the reasons for which will be revealed to us later, or even in the next life.
 
I can see why you’re so excited but please don’t think too much next time.

“If you belonged to the world, it would love
you as it’s own. But I have chosen you out
of the world, and you do not belong to it,
therefore the world hates you”
John 15:19
 
We are well advised in this world of gossip and slander to avoid nearly everything that is labeled “news.” At the same time, we are challenged to bear with our brothers and sisters whose understanding differs from our own.
 
After reading the article, I think that SOME may
jump to the conclusion that schismatics and
heretics who do good will also go to heaven.

But, those who truly are seeking the Truth AND
are living a good life by doing what their consciences
tell them to do MAY end up in God’s prescence
IF they have invincible ignorance of Christ’s
claim to Lordship.
 
This is a 4 year old article.

We must never doubt or put limits on the mercy of God. I don’t know who is in heaven (besides the saints) and who is not, so we should put our trust in God’s mercy.
