I’m thinking about converting from the Baptist church to the Catholic or Orthodox Church. But the problem is my mother doesn’t want me to leave the Baptist church. She is staying with the bapstist Chuch because that’s where all of her friends are. My entire family is Baptist. But I don’t agree with he Baptist church. So please help me convert her with something persuasive against the Baptist church and show that the Baptist church is the not the Church Christ founded.

I know this isn’t exactly what you want to hear, but I feel it’s important to say. Emotions are a fickle thing, and the unfortunate reality is that it might be the case that your mother isn’t in an emotional state where conversion from her church is a thing she’d do. If that’s the case, trying to actively persuade her won’t do anything. At the moment, just pray for her. Ask God to guide her to His Church, and ask Him to help you know how to help her get there.

I’m currently a teen, i has a couple of fusses with her about different denominations. BUT SHE DOESNT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT OTHER DENOMINATIONS. I’m kind of angry at her because I’m trying to tell her about other churches with all of this info I’m researching but all she says is I don’t know. How am I supposed to talk to her if she doesn’t know.

Don’t be angry with her, don’t judge her. She’s your mother. Show her some respect and show her beliefs some respect.

You can’t “convert” people. If your mother isn’t interested then she isn’t interested. Drop it.

I’m just scared about after researching for the past 3 months that all my views on different churches changed. I just think that the Baptist church looks unoriginal. That some of the believes look so wrong. Like you can’t lose salvation, even though you can lose salvation. How can Baptist say that you can’t lose salvation even though some people do. I love history so I would study the past and it shows the Baptist church skipping 1500 years after Christ’s crucifixon to make a new church. Why can’t chritistians just have one church and agree on everything instead of having divisions.

Yes, it would be great if there is only one Church which everyone is part of. Problem is that people have had different views on a whole lot of things. That is why there have been so many councils and meeting in the church history. Not even today will everyone agree on everything.

Becoming Catholic is a process. For some short and for some very long as in 40 years. Pray for your mom. Work slowly but steadily on your way to the Catholic Church, if that is what God is calling you to be. Sometimes things are a lot easier when a person is an adult in becoming Catholic as they are responsible for their own actions, decisions, living on their own and supporting themselves. Becoming Catholic is not advised for a minor if it is going to cause problems with their relationship with their parents. Then it is better to wait until adulthood.

It is God who does the conversion of people. Being received into the Catholic Church takes usually at least months. It is a decision that is for life.

Respect your parents. Don’t worry about converting them. Just set a good example. Catholics believe that the Catholic Church is the true Church founded by Christ. The Baptist churches teach some errors but are, at least, Trinitarian Christians. Explore joining the Church.

The best way to work towards anybody’s conversion is with holiness of life. Live the holiness that God calls you to live.

As a teen, you need to respect your mother. Despite your username, you don’t get to decide what your mother believes. When you are of legal age, you can leave your church and join another if you choose. Until then, research all you wish. But it may be your mother’s choice to remain Baptist, and that is her right. Perhaps one day you will be able to convert her by your example but you will never do it by browbeating and arguing with her.

Honor thy Father and Mother… this is an important responsibility for you as her child. You can’t force her to change. Pray for her. As a teen, you cannot become Catholic on your own until you are an adult. Continue to study and pray. Attend church as your mother directs you. Once you are of age, you will be free to become Catholic.

Ask her to take you to a Mass. Experience it together & talk about it.

Most Churches will have at least two Masses on Sunday morning & one Saturday Evening.

It would also help if you can articulate the reason you are wanting to convert as well. What do you not agree with the Baptist denomination? What’s false? Why don’t you believe once saved always saved?

Your point about the 1500 year gap is good. What happened in those 1500 years? What does your mom think happened in those 1500 years?

What do you like about the Catholic/Orthodox Church?

& as others have stated, you can’t convert her. Only God can. All you can do is “prepare the way,” “plant the seed,” pray then let God do His work.

Nothing has changed here. Teenagers didn’t think adults knew anything about anything when I was a teen 45 years ago.

Here’s a thought. Steve Ray converted to Catholicism from the Baptist tradition. He is one of the best apologists I know of. You could buy a bundle of CDs from his store. Each one dealing with a topic of concern to Baptists. You could conveniently eave them spread out on your dresser. Maybe your Mom will happen to see them. Maybe she will see a particular topic that will interest her. Maybe not. Maybe she will listen to one when no one is around. Maybe not. Here is a link to that product at his store. Parents don’t like to be told they are wrong by their own kids, but just maybe … in a private moment. Incidentally, have all the cellophane wrappers slit open.

Well, the Greek complained about their young population being rowdy on the streets some 2500 years ago. Nothing new under the sun as someone said. 🤣

Hi there, I was a Baptist, and I am a Catholic now- I led all of my parents who were also Baptists into the Catholic Faith. Now, my entire family and my extended family are Catholics.
When your parents realize that the Catholic Church is the True Church, then they will convert- but before that, may be approach them slowly. My mother was hesitant on the idea of Mary, but she later devoted herself to Mary.

So do not worry. Do not hesitate and keep your eyes on Him my friend. Your family still believes in God- just another denomination. They do not have the fullness of the faith. Approach them slowly, but not violently. God is loving so approach them with love. Maybe bring them a book about the Catholic faith.

Also, this is highly important: PRAY THE ROSARY. Rosary is great to obtain peace among families and in different denominations. Intercession of Mary is powerful. I think she would love to pray for you.

I am thinking of you. Can I pray for you? I feel so touched by this post. I would love to talk to you personally.

You sound like you have an interesting story. I do appreciate that while you do not feel the Baptist Church has the fulness of Truth, you do indicate that the OP’s family does believe in God. The Catholic Church recognizes that the Baptist Church has a valid baptism and does serve as an effective ecclesial community in leading people to Christ. I am not a Baptist but I find the statement “the Baptist Church is false” as inappropriate and offensive and should not be allowed on this forum. I’ m quite sure that if someone made the same statement in reference to the Catholic Church it would be shut down quickly.

Are you willing as a former Baptist to say “the Baptist Church is false?”

Yes, because the Bible keeps talking about false teachers and false religions. It says that they will lead many to astray.

Only the Holy Spirit can “convert” a person.

You are a teen. You are commanded to give respect to your parents. Apologize for showing them anger.

Your job is to be a good son/daughter, to show love and joy with everything you do. So much joy and peace that your parents look at you and think “wow!”

Hi @Wannano,
I have to be very careful when to say ‘false’. That is why I said, “approach them slowly, not violently”.
Rather, it would be better to say that the Catholic Church is full in its depth and grace. I say this because Baptist Church and other Christian denominations have recognized God as the only one God and all members have to be baptized in the name of the Trinity. The Bible is essential to Baptists in my knowledge.
However, the Baptist Church does not have the books that is currently included in the Bible that we use in the Catholic Church, and it misses key doctrines that are recognized as admirable by the Holy See. This includes saints and the Blessed Virgin.

What I am refering to your question here is that I am not stating that Baptist Church is false- I want to leave the discernment of this to God- and what I am saying here is that I am hoping that this young friend will have some support and if she doesn’t, I am willing to give her some.

Pax Christi!
