I understand. My grandparents were hardcore Baptists. My Pawpaw read the whole bible 42 times. I never thought to ask before he died. If I could I would ask how he knew so much but still went there.
They are teaching what they were taught, and what they believe to be true. They stand in the tradition of Apollos.Symbolic communion quarterly is a false teaching.
Scripture is authorative, but you are right, forcing the Holy Writings into a role that was meant to be filled by persons is a dead end. It is easy to see how the doctrine of Sola Scriptura has produced an unlimited number of Protestant sects, all believing they have the interpretation inspired by the Holy Spirit. So sola scriptura isn’t true, even though the Bible says all scripture is god breathed.
Yes, but it did not happen. The Holy Spirit preserved the New Testament Canon for all of us.I learned that Martin Luther cherry picked 7 books from the Bible and almost remove Hebrews, Jude and revelations because they were against his ideas.
Eh… Catholics, in my experience know their bible well enough. They mat not be able to quote chapter & verse so well… but they know their bible well enough. That being said, there is great reverence for Scripture in Baptist communities, which should be esteemed. Would that Catholics knew their bibles as well as our Baptist siblings!
I would as well, bt what if we did not have to choose? It was Catholics that created the Chapters and verses! If I could choose, I’d rather live my faith as they do rather than know the chapter & verse that tell me what example I should provide.
Many Protestants are full of zeal and commitment to their faith, but like Apollos in the NT, do not know the whole story. What do you mean tradition of apollos?
Still went where exactly?I understand. My grandparents were hardcore Baptists. My Pawpaw read the whole bible 42 times. I never thought to ask before he died. If I could I would ask how he knew so much but still went there.
It isn’t uncommon to not know about various denominations and their history. It isn’t uncommon to not know about early Church history. If a sick man doesn’t know he is sick then he won’t be looking for a cure. Your mom doesn’t know she is in a sense sick. So she won’t care about a cure. Hounding her about how unhealthy she is won’t likely get her to seek treatment.I’m currently a teen, i has a couple of fusses with her about different denominations. BUT SHE DOESNT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT OTHER DENOMINATIONS. I’m kind of angry at her because I’m trying to tell her about other churches with all of this info I’m researching but all she says is I don’t know. How am I supposed to talk to her if she doesn’t know.
He is a great apologist, but I believe his father died a Baptist. My point being that ultimately it is up to the Holy Spirit and the individual. Here’s a thought. Steve Ray converted to Catholicism from the Baptist tradition. He is one of the best apologists I know of.
Flagged. I don’t appreciate being told to “get off this forum”. Nowhere in my post did I go against Church teaching, nor would I in any of my posts on this board.Umm, actually, this guy SHOULD try to convert his mother. That is what the Church teaches. Don’t agree with the Church? Get off this forum.
Flagged again. The stance of the Church is that people of other faiths should be converted Catholicism. If you are not Catholic, why are you even on this forum??? This is a site for Catholics, not a site for infidels and heretics to go against the Church. So I’ll repeat what I said earlier; get off this forum. You are not welcome.
I don’t say Catholics shouldn’t try to convert people. In this specific case I said the OP should “drop” pushing his belief that the Baptist Church is false because it’s getting him nowhere. It’s achieving nothing except upsetting her and angering him. He needs to take a step back, respect where his mother is on her faith journey, and if she wants to, work through the history and theology of Catholicism together.Lou2u is an atheist and that is why she says that we should not try to convert people.
