Just an answer to my question. That’s all.
The answer is within the posts on this thread. Either you have refused to read them, or you have read them and can’t, or won’t understand them.

You have drawn a conclusion that is based upon your own bias, rather than the Catholic Answers that have been provided to you.

It says “forbidding to marry.”

Wait but surely the ROMAN Catholic Church forbids its priests to marry; am I correct?
The better question really is, why don’t n-C faith communities obey the New Testament direct word of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Priestly celibacy is unBiblical. NOT!

The fact is that the passage in your question refers to the Gnostics, who did just that. Perhaps we can expect a revival of Gnosticism as Our Lord’s return nears?

I would just answer with this note that is in my Bible that covers what I was gonna say better than I could have.

3 “Forbidding to marry, to abstain from meats”… He speaks of the Gnostics, the Marcionites, the Eneratites, the Manicheans, and other ancient heretics, who absolutely condemned marriage, and the use of all kind of meat; because they pretended that all flesh was from an evil principle. Whereas the church of God, so far from condemning marriage, holds it a holy sacrament; and forbids it to none but such as by vow have chosen the better part: and prohibits not the use of any meats whatsoever in proper times and seasons; though she does not judge all kind of diet proper for days of fasting and penance."

So, the admonition about heretics that forbid to marry is directed at the heretics of that day and they really have nothing to do with those who willingly take a vow of celibacy for the sake of their service of God.

Militant, which bible/commentary is this?

I guess the problem with this anti-catholic argument is that these non-catholic critics are taking the epistle to Timothy as a prophetic book which, sadly, is a big mistake since it’s a pastoral epistle meant for an apprentice in Timothy…

if they take away the prophetic value of the epistle, then it would really be very easy to understand…unfortunately, they won’t since taking it away is equivalent to giving up their position altogether…

So…you agree, Catholic priests are forbidden to marry?
[Joke] Oh yes, the Church kidnaps young boys and forces them to become priests and makes them be celibate. Everyone knows this is where priests come from. [/Joke]
