I just Google Imaged “temple garments.”

haha! I meant clothed! But with the knowledge that what the person is wearing means one thing, that is in no way compatible to receiving the Body and Blood of Our Lord.:mad::confused:

Any practicing Mormon (with or without garments) who attends Mass and tries to go forward to receive the Eucharist is the same as a practicing Catholic who tries to get into a Mormon temple to participate in the endowment ritual. Neither belong given their beliefs, though a Mormon may successfully receive communion out of ignorance. The priest doesn’t check for a Eucharist recommend like Mormon temple workers check for temple recommends, so it’s virtually impossible for a Catholic to enter the temple by mistake. Regardless, a Mormon knowingly seeking to receive communion, knowing what Catholics believe and still holding to Mormon beliefs about the Christ’s body and blood, is disrespecting the beliefs of Catholics as well as disrespecting the rite itself. The same goes for a Catholic who tries to sneak into a Mormon temple. Getting back to the Mormon/Catholic poster in the forum, it sounds like s/he shows disrespect to both rites (assuming s/he receives the Eucharist and attends the Mormon temple). I’m sure s/he doesn’t view it that way, but that’s how it seems to me. It does come down to what s/he thinks about the doctrine of the Real Presence. If s/he believes it, then to take the Mormon sacrament disrespects the Eucharist. If s/he doesn’t, then s/he disrespects the Eucharist by taking it. In other words, only baptized Catholics who believe that only the Catholic Church contains the fullness of God’s truth should approach the altar to receive communion. This is exactly why the Church has a closed communion. To do otherwise is to show disrespect for Catholic teaching and the Eucharist.

NS,

That’s just it. The person who claims to be a Mormon Catholic was baptized & raised Catholic, and only switched to Mormonism at 18. Now in middle age, this person is reverting to the Catholic faith, but still supporting the Mormon faith.

So, technically this person meets at least part of the definition you provided ~ baptized, first communion, etc. The breakdown occurs at the requirement to believe “only the Catholic Church contains the fullness of God’s truth”. Someone that supports the Mormon faith cannot also believe that. But the individual in question rejects such thinking as “dogmatic”. I’m concerned about what this person is doing to themselves by receiving communion in such a situation.

Catholic20064,
My husband is a non-practicing Mormon, but he still truly believes everything the LDS is about, when I try to talk to him about religion, he tells me that we should keep our faiths out of our marriage because we will never agree. The weird thing is this, he hasn’t went to an LDS church service since we have been together, 11 years, but every Sunday he is off work (he is an RN, and is off on Sundays about twice a month) he goes to Mass with me. When we first started going to Mass he wouldn’t kneel, and then after a couple more times of going he started to halfway kneel, now he kneels all the way. right when I think he is coming around to questioning his own beliefs, he’ll say something that goes back to Mormon thinking. I always listen to Catholic Answers Live around him, and John Martgnoni’s Apologetic CD’s, and he doesn’t ever say anything about what is being discussed, and I wonder if it is even registering in his head, what is being played. If you have ever heard John Martgnoni, you, know that he comes out making blows that no one can deny! He is awesome! But what I wanted to ask you was this; do you think that I should tell him that I will attend one of his church services if he wants to go? I asked him before why he suddenly stopped being a devout LDS right when we met, and he said because you will freak out. Doesn’t that sound like maybe his faith isn’t as strong as he lets on? His entire family is Mormon so I think that has a lot of influence on him, even though he acts like it is truly where he wants to be and not because his family might not approve on it. I know his family and I know they would NEVER shut him out of their lives. They are the most loving family ever. They might try real hard to keep him in it, but they would never turn their backs on him, but I think he scared to even disappoint them. I have been trying to plant seeds in him hardcore for the last 6 months. I don’t see any sprouting happening though. I have faith that the Holy Spirit will work in him when the time is right. I just hope I am being a good gardener…LOL Anyways, I think by going to one of his church services, it will, because he has only been around the Catholic religion for the last 11 years, help him see the difference in our worshiping and adoration, and theirs. There is no denying the huge difference. I have never been to a LDS service, but I have Youtubed them, and they are VERY VERY different. I noticed that the LDS service is more about the people’s stories and testimonies, rather than totally letting Jesus enter into you, and you showing the most adoration for the entire service, instead of talking about yourself. I feel we do enough talking about ourselves all week. Sunday is the day for God alone!! Sorry this is so long, but I just wanted to give you a background. Anybody can reply to this.
Thanks!

Quite clearly then, this person thinks both the Catholic Church and the Mormon Church are wrong. Why would s/he attend either if both are wrong? As well, if s/he thinks truth claims are dogmatic, why would s/he attend dogmatic churches? I think I know who this poster is and posed this question to him/her in another thread. I’m very interested in a response. I’m completely nonplussed by the position s/he is taken and, like you, am concerned since I believe Catholicism is Christ’s Church. I think s/he is disrepecting the Eucharist by continuing to support Mormonism and receive the Mormon sacrament (assuming s/he is doing so, and not just attending Mormon services for the sake of the kids). Disrespecting the Eucharist means you are disrespecting Christ Himself. You’re right; it is a concern.

Ask youself on what basis you “know” it to be true? Is your knowledge based on just a “feeling” that it is true? Knowledge based on personal feelings and individual perceptions can be deceiving.

I’m sure many people “knew” that the earth was flat before explorers circumnavigated the globe, because that’s what they were told and taught and that’s what made sense to them based on their own personal experience. Even the thought of a globe-shaped earth was absolutely inconceivable and illogical. But these feelings did not make the world flat.

Peace,
-Robert
also, to add to add to what you said Robert, what about all the people who didnt follow Jesus, even after they saw all the miracles! It is because it didn’t feel “right” to them to follow something that wasnt what they were used to. Obviously their feeling was deceiving.

The only way you can know is to put Catholicism to the test by trying it sincerely. I’m sure if you attend mass regularly in a spirit of prayer you will come to know Catholicism is true. That would of course mean your testimony of the Book of Mormon is false. But you have to sincerely follow the path before you will know.
A testimony of the BOM cannot be reversed in any way.

Thank you for your testimony and how you came to the Catholic Church.
It seems the Holy Spirit not only nudged you to attend [in absense of the Mormon service] BUT He also opened your eyes and most especially your heart.

What a true Miracle!

Hypothetically speaking, what if Joseph Smith’s confession was discovered, in which he states that he made the whole thing up, and the letter was verified by handwriting analysis to be written by Joseph’s own hand? Would you change your mind then?

And I’m not talking about some Mark Hoffman forgery. This would be the real deal.

I think that that would do it. But it hasn’t happened. 🤷

Have you tried to take a serious look into his religion for a change? It is a give and take. If you take his religion more seriously, he might be persuaded to take your religion more seriously.

I can not take his religion seriously, if I did, I would be lying to myself and him. The Catholic Church is the only true church! That’s all there is to it. Believe me, I have looked into it. I go to ya’lls website all the time, lds.org, and I word search all kinds of things I’m curious about. Like when I hear someone on here talking about something, for instance, the seer stone, I’ll go to that website and type in seer stone in the search box. I then read all the articles and teachings that the results give. I think that is the best way to look into it. I do not like going elsewhere because I know it is not an official LDS website, and I would never want to be told that I got that from an antimormon site. Same goes for Mormons; I hope they go to either, EWTN.com or catholic.com for their questions. Anyways, I could never disappoint Jesus by looking into a man made religion rather than the one he taught directly to us. I’m sorry I sound blunt about it, but I can’t be scared to offend someone when I need to tell them the truth. Could you imagine if Jesus was scared to tell us the truth because he was scared he might offend us? That would have meant there was no authority in the church. which we very well know that Jesus was not afraid to offend people when he told them their ways were wrong and they needed to be doing things in His way, the way he taught us to, in his church, the church he was crucified for so that we would be born again in his body so that we may have eternal salvation. So if the church fell into an apostasy, than Jesus died for nothing and our sins will never be forgiven and we are basically going to die and never experience the after life. Jesus died only one time. He didn’t come back and die again on the cross for Joseph smith’s religion. He only did it one time! By the way Z, you always have the coolest pictures as your signature. Where do you get them from, I love them!! 😉

NewSeeker ~ we have also had other Mormon posters on this forum who have declared that, even if the Book of Mormon was proved to be absolutely unequivocally false, they would still believe. At some level it just comes down to the individual, wanting it to be true, regardless of anything else.

That’s true. For some, the desire to believe is the most powerful thing. I once posed the same hypothetical to my mom and she said she would still believe. She has a witness from the spirit, so that would prove to here that on the day Joseph hypothetically penned that letter, he would have had to be under the influence of Satan. It works for my mom and she’s happy, but that kind of thinking is just crazy, imo.

I am not too sure about that. If I wanted to look into Catholicism, I think I would prefer to attend a Catholic church for a while to get a closer look and first hand experience of what it is all about. Why don’t you attend the LDS Church one Sunday with him to get the feel of what it is like?

That is okay provided that you do have the truth. Jesus did. I am not sure that you do.

They are all from images of outer space taken by the Hubble telescope. You can find hundreds of them on the Internet. In Google you can do an image search. If you go to Google home page, on the top left corner there is a link that says “Images”. If you click on that, and then type Hubble (or some other astronomy related word) in the search box, you will see hundreds of images relating to your search term. Then you can download and edit them to cut them to the size and shape you like.

Lamb of God Girly,
I enjoyed reading your recent posts just now as I was browsing. Thanks for sharing about your husband and his family. What you have seen on the internet that you described sounds like a testimony meeting, held the first Sunday of each month. The other Sundays there are speakers who use the scriptures to teach about gospel subjects–small “sermons”. Also each Sunday there is the partaking of bread and water in remembrance of the Savior’s body and blood. It will seem different to you than what you are used to, but your husband can explain it to you.

Have you ever interacted with local members of the LDS religion in your area? I’m sure they would be delighted to meet you, just for the chance to get to know such a kind person. If you email me, I could actually make contact there and someone could visit if you thought that would be better than attending and meeting people at the church without having at least met someone–not that it wouldn’t be just fine to attend without knowing anyone. Either way is fine.

Zerinus,
Thanks also for the magnificent Hubble picture that is always such a pleasure to see.

LambofGodGirly, you have become quite the target for the lds proselyting efforts on this site.

LDS, stop proselyting. Yes, that means you zerinus and ParkerD.

Rebecca,
The definition of “proselyte” is not “to invite to attend a religious meeting.” (You can look up the word in the dictionary.)
My interest in her interest in attending an LDS meeting is so that she understands more about her husband’s religion–how he was raised–because I think she will then understand him better and I think real understanding of each other is important in marriage. That would be the only reason for her to attend.

For you Rebecca, anything positive posted about the lds church becomes an act of proselyting. Why? Mormons do need to counter the negatives that are said about their church on this board. It has noting to do with proselyting. But it does have something to do with knowledge.

I am just curious about what he believes, but I promise I would never leave my faith!! I am so in love it, it’s crazy…LOL But, my goal in attending his church would be for him to realize that he wasn’t missing anything from it, and that all the masses he has been going to with me, have much more meaning. He hasn’t attended a LDS services in 11 years. but, like I said, he still claims he believes in all that teach. I do wonder what is holding him back from attending. His sister asked him the other night if he planned on going back to church or thought about it, and he said no. don’t know what that means though. it all started when his sister asked us what religion will we raise our children when we have them, and i said Catholic, and Larry said, "Me and Alisha argue about religion all the time. and then thats when she asked him if he ever thinks about going back to church. They then started telling me that I ought to go to church with them once or talk to the missionaries. I was thinking to myself, why in the world are they worried about me, i go to church every sunday, and have God in my life. Why wouldnt they be way more worried about Larry, he is the one who needs direction. anyways, any advice would be great…LOL
