it all started when his sister asked us what religion will we raise our children when we have them, and i said Catholic, and Larry said, "Me and Alisha argue about religion all the time. and then thats when she asked him if he ever thinks about going back to church. They then started telling me that I ought to go to church with them once or talk to the missionaries. I was thinking to myself, why in the world are they worried about me, i go to church every sunday, and have God in my life. Why wouldnt they be way more worried about Larry, he is the one who needs direction. anyways, any advice would be great…LOL
It is not about you but the children that you will be having with him and raising them catholic. Which of course is a legitmate concern for his family as it would be for yours if you were going to raise them mormon. 🙂 Believe it or not, but there are many people who find no meaning in attending Mass. Many just find it boring as they sit, stand, and kneel. But yes, mass is meaningful. Just don’t be surprised if he doesn’t find it as meaningful as you.

I am just curious about what he believes, but I promise I would never leave my faith!! I am so in love it, it’s crazy…LOL But, my goal in attending his church would be for him to realize that he wasn’t missing anything from it, and that all the masses he has been going to with me, have much more meaning. He hasn’t attended a LDS services in 11 years. but, like I said, he still claims he believes in all that teach. I do wonder what is holding him back from attending. His sister asked him the other night if he planned on going back to church or thought about it, and he said no. don’t know what that means though. it all started when his sister asked us what religion will we raise our children when we have them, and i said Catholic, and Larry said, "Me and Alisha argue about religion all the time. and then thats when she asked him if he ever thinks about going back to church. You have to make a stand or they will just keep pushing. Their only goal is to take your faith away from you. Period. End of story. It is not a case of give and take, it is a case of you give everything, they take it all.

Notice how no mormon here is encouraging you to see a priest. Or to go on a marriage retreat with your husband. Or to invite his family to Mass. If you were LDS, and needing this sort of help, they would be telling you to see a bishop. They know how these things work. They know that a Catholic should seek the advice of their priest. You should ask yourself, why a mormon is telling you to seek the advice of mormons, when you are Catholic.

There are others here who have mixed marriages with LDS. Some have declared, quite firmly, that their children are being raised Catholic. Their LDS family still seeks to undermine this decision. To needle their way into their children’s lives and get them to leave the faith their parents are raising them in.

Mormons will seek to sow doubt. They will seek to confuse you. They are like the pack of lions on the edge of a heard, looking for the weak. If you aren’t weak in your faith, they will work at making you that way.

This is no small matter. It is your soul, your marriage, and the souls of any future children. Are you going to baptize your children or not?

You mean how you try to do this to mormons on this forum along with some of your catholic friends? Are you projecting yourself into your post?

The family of course are concerned that the children will be raised catholic. But really, don’t project yourself into this thread. A catholic family who is devout would react the same if the children will be raised mormon. It is not about her but the children.

Why would a mormon suggest to her to see a priest if she is going to raise the children catholic? Now seeing a priest may be helpful if her husband was an active mormon. But I see no reason for her to see a priest at this moment.

whyme, really, you are a Catholic who raised your children as LDS. This is no projection this is reality. YOU may be wishy washy and think it is all fine and dandy that mormons use a Catholic website to take people from their Catholic faith. I do not.

whyme, perhaps you have not been paying attention. There are two mormons here telling a Catholic to call mormons and get their advice. This is their marital advice, to a CATHOLIC. If you believe a Catholic needs marital advice you advise them to see their priest, not the mormon relief society.

Well, she is with an inactive mormon who still believes. That is not bad advice. I would take it for granted that she spoke with a priest already. 🙂

Yes whyme, you would think it perfectly alright that a Catholic raise their children as LDS. We already know this.

I couldn’t care less how her children are raised. But with the inlaws it is not about her but the future children being raised catholic. In a interfaith marriage there is always a problem with religion if both people are active in their faith. But there is no problem about this here. He is not active and doesn’t mind the children being raised catholic…but the in-laws…may be a different matter.

whyme, I think you are making assumptions. I have not heard anyone say that the father “doesn’t mind”. As for the in-laws, we can love them, and treat them with respect. It doesn’t mean we take their bad advice, just so they don’t feel bad.

Of course you don’t:rolleyes:

I suggest you stop insulting people’s intelligence and treating them as though they were brain dead. She is a mature and intelligent woman and knows to make her own decisions. I don’t think she needs any help from you with that one.

The in-laws have no say in which religion the children are being raised, raising them is not their responsibility.

Lamb of God Girly,
Larry may or may not join the Catholic church, but it sounds like he is pretty supportive of you and I think that’s great. People retain a lot of what was taught to them as a child, even if they don’t seem to outwardly. The retaining of what was taught to them is inside, and they may not talk about it, especially since it sounds like he really does want to be supportive of you more than anything else, and not cause disharmony in your marriage. I agree with Rebecca’s advice that anything you both do to strengthen your marriage will be a good thing. Your children will be fine being raised Catholic. What counts most is the kind of example of kindness and unselfishness and love that you as parents show to them. It sounds like you’re on the right road to that. All the best to you both. (His attending an LDS service with you would probably do him more harm than good at this point, it appears to me, because he wants #1 to be supportive of you and there would be too much cognitive dissonance.)

. Several years ago in April 2006 I converted to the Catholic Church after over three decades as a Mormon. It has been such a wonderful journey! As I went through the Easter Triduum this year I was thinking how blessed I had been! I watched 40 other people come into my parish at the Easter Vigil and couldn’t help but remember my own baptism. I have seen my own life changed through the sacraments of confession and the Eucharist. en.
so good to hear a story like this… helps all of us who sometimes seem to be evangelizing in vain. Sometimes i get so much resistance to things Catholic that i wonder if God wants me to spend my time more productively…

I try to remember all that Catholicism has done for me & that keeps me going… but sometimes, well, i am human and when i don’t see the seeds i plant growing (long story what i mean), i can get discourged…

I’m glad the seeds in your life are growing… 🙂

I suggest that it is you who treats people as though they are brain dead. That we don’t notice your proselyting and your anti-Catholicism.

This is just more of the same. Needling. Turning Catholics against their own faith. Manipulation. As of course, only a mormon would see telling someone to be strong in their Catholic faith as insulting their intelligence and seek to plant the idea that it is.
