What do you do if it is a 3 or 4 hour drive to get to a TLM. I have just grown frustrated at the lack of, well, it is just ridiculous.

Go to Mass.
God knows your heart.
Both forms of the Mass are equally valid and licit.

Go to Mass.
If you have practical access to TLM go to that.
Not sure why going to Mass should cause frustration.

If it were me, I’d leave 41/2 hours ahead of time so I didn’t miss the Rosary:thumbsup:

Perhaps you can plan an occasional excursion to attend a TLM – make plans for the whole day including meals and any stops you want to make.

For the rest of the time, maybe you can find other ways to nurture your soul that you can indulge in more frequently.

If every parish in a three or four hour radius of my house was sincerely indulging in grave abuse during Mass, I definitely would take the time to write to my Bishop. I think I would be sinning if I didn’t make my voice heard in the face of such widespread disaster.

But if there are smaller abuses, I would pick my best option that was as close to my house as possible, and I would use it as an opportunity to grow in patience.

If that failed, I would try to find an Eastern Catholic Church within a shorter distance.

If I had absolutely zero access to ANY Mass, yes, I would drive three or four hours. I would also do my best to move in the near future.

But, while I appreciate the Extraordinary Form, I’m an Ordinary Form guy who would certainly not go out of his way to avoid it. I also think that little things that once bugged me in the OF can be utterly ignored, and that it can be spiritually dangerous to obsess about all of this unless it is sincerely necessary.

You plan the trip. Get Monday off at work, go with a few interested friends, who can share the driving and expenses and go to an amazing, glad-you-went liturgy. :highprayer:

Once a month I’ll go to the TLM at St. Agnes Church in Manhattan. It’s a 1 1/2 hour commute each way, but worth it. It was my Parish growing up. Other times I’ll attend the TLM on the island.

We travel 2 1/2 hours each way. I feel your pain. My car is close to worn out and my gas bill is horrible. But I go to the EF Mass every Sunday and each Holy day.

I no longer attend the OF Mass.

OK, I give up, I feel lover than a whales ankle. I will go back again to church this weekend and suck it up.:o

Don’t give up! Seek and you shall find, ask and it will be given. Below is a link to Una Voce America’s chapters page with all contact info.

Una Voce’s mission is to support only the celebration of the Tridentine/Gregorian Rite Mass within the Church, in union with the Holy See and the Bishops united with the Supreme Pontiff of the Church as encouraged through the 2007 Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum, and the 2011 clarifying document Universae Ecclesiae.

Good Luck

Try a number of different parishes at your city to find the most “reverent” Novus Ordo Mass (i.e. the one with the least number of liturgical abuses).

I also think it would be a good idea to make a trip maybe once a month or so to attend the TLM.

Just a thought…

Talk to some people in your parish/town/city and see if there are others who may be interested. Then approach your Pastor to see if he can help you find a priest who is capable of celebrating the EF. If your Pastor can’t help you, call the Diocese.

Remember, that you may not find anyone who shares your desires. The Pastor/Bishop must take that into account.

The one thing that will not help, is getting on the internet and complaining. If you want the EF, it is up to you to help get one started.

Good luck and peace be with you on your journey.

I guess I should have been more specific in my last post. What you are suggesting is exactly right. That is what Una Voce does. There are chapters around the country devoted to promoting the Mass and training Priests so they can provide the EF. If there’s not a chapter near you give some thought to starting one. Here is a link to their home page fe anyone who is interested in learning more.

Contact your local Bishop, and in charity make your desire known:thumbsup:

Going three to four hours out of your way to get to a mass seems extreme. I’m sorry you feel so frustrated 😦

I do not have a TLM near me either so I do my best to find a reverent ordinary form of the Mass and then do my best to participate reverently, sometimes it is hard.
