I don’t believe in moral relativism. I believe that using human reason we can formulate a robust, relevant understanding of right and wrong which is potentially absolute, and doesn’t require reference to the direction to which the wind is blowing.

There have been a few times that I’ve gotten into heated philosophical discussions with other people in which my moral absolutism has come to light. Every time this has happened I’ve been accused of being a Catholic!

I swear I’m not :-p

I was not offended by it.

Has anyone else been in this situation?

Non believer or believer.

Took me some time to process that one.
Tell me what was said. What were the circumstances whereby what you heard was determined by you to be an accusation?

Pretty obvious that hanging around here awhile has rubbed off on you. ha ha…
:rotfl::rotfl:
Yes, it does tend to ‘rub off’ on people on here I think. I wasn’t sure if I was Catholic anymore, but am proud to say, am now, without a doubt.😃

I would love it to be accused a Catholic. Sadly, all I get is being accused non-Catholic by Catholics :confused::confused:
👍 Seeing you are a non-practicing Roman Catholic, I have to assume you were baptized and made a member of the Church, placing an indelible character upon your soul. Or otherwise received into the Church. So for you to be accused of not being a Catholic by Catholics does seem a bit odd. Even more so I’d think if it has ever happened on a forum purporting to be giving Catholic answers. I hope that has not been the case for you here. God bless you and peace.

I was accused of being Catholic so many times that I had to enter RCIA 😃

Having been raised by very catholic parents who believed that God gave us a brain for a reason I would consider it a compliment.

I wouldnt call it an accusation. But many people think I am Catholic. Based on my Lutheran beliefs and the fact I wear a Crucifix.

For people who are uninformed of the differences between the two it is very easy for them to mistake me for a Catholic. The Crucifix def gets em every time.

It does not offend me. “I would rather drink blood with a Papist than wine with a Zwinglian”

My fellow brother JohnNc has posted that comment to me on other threads, and could never digest that comments full understanding until now!! What a revelation:thumbsup:

All validly baptized Christians in the world fall under the umbrella of the Catholic Church = body of Christ, whether they know this or not.

I was ‘accused’ by my pastor of being Catholic. He did not say it in a derogatory way at all, thus accused is in quotes. I’ve also been ‘accused’ of being a pastor a couple of times. I am kinda gently preachy, if not always in an explicitly Christian way at least in a Natural Law way. I took all instances as a compliment.
not how i would like to be recognised as a catholic

Well I have never really been accused of being Catholic, but I remember in my history class once there was a discussion over indulgences, and I ended up defending the Roman Catholic Church on the matter. So as a result I suppose people assumed I was a Catholic.

In a conversation that was ultimately the beginning of the disintegration of my attempted marriage, my former MIL accused me of being Catholic. I was born and raised, but a very involved evangelical at the time. I took great offense to that, and told my husband so.
I asked him to stand up for me, but he did not. That was 1995. I reverted in 2004. Looking back, I still have no idea what she was talking about, it was just a really good slur to her, a rabid anti-Catholic. 🤷
