I was converted from Catholicism to Christ at the age of 19.

No. It means he was created in a state of innocence. Prior to the fall he wasn’t in need of grace.
Of course he was in need of grace - grace keeps your soul alive.
He was in a “right relationship with God” because he had not yet sinned. God created him without sin, hence, in a “right relationship” to Himself.
This is what is meant by being in a state of grace.
He could create him no other way.
Which has what to do with it? It’s still grace, even though it was Adam’s natural state, because of the fact that it wasn’t sin.

That’s an oxymoron.
Not at all. Every ending is a beginning. When you come to “the end” in a story, it is the beginning of the next thing you are doing, after you read the story. 🙂

What was finished was the Passover Sacrifice of the New Covenant, and what was beginning was the era of the New Covenant - the beginning of Christianity and the possibility of salvation in the sense of being able to live forever with God in Heaven.

That’s an oxymoron.
Like loving those who hate you …
praying for those who persecute you …
the Creator of the universe becoming a helpless baby …
dying to one’s self and being born to eternal life …

No, “grace” has to do with man’s redemption from sin. Not Adam’s created state before sin entered into the world through him.

Understanding “grace” in the context of redemption is crucial to understanding salvation. Which I believe is your confusion.

To be in the state of grace is to be in the state of Adam and Eve before they sinned.

Redemption is about being restored to that original state of grace.

The only man who put us in our faith is Jesus Christ. All other denominations are man-made. It is you who are putting your interpretations into your man-made religions.
Actually, men are to put their faith in Jesus Christ for salvation: “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved…” (Acts 16:31).

At the time of belief all that He accomplished on the cross is then appropriated to the believer, in full: redemption from sin and reconciliation to God. IOW, upon faith in Christ the believer is perfectly and completely redeemed and reconciled to God. It’s called the “good news,” the “gospel” of Christ.

There’s nothing man-made about this. It’s what God Himself has wrought through the work of His Son - to His glory.

jmcrae:
This means that he was in the state of grace (a right relationship with God).
As I said, grace presupposes a need for it; without evil, wickedness and sin, no need exists for grace; therefore, Adam was in condition other than grace—innocence.

jmcrae:
It was very confusing, because you also said that he was not in the state of grace.
What I said wasn’t confusing; you’re playing me.

The opposite of grace is sin.
The opposite of grace is not-grace. 😃

Gabriel of 12:
Tell me, I asked this in another thread. It is great that you posses all your faculties and are able to believe your saved. How do infants, the mentally ill, and deaf and mute souls get saved?
That would be by grace; your church understands and acknowledges the necessity of grace, but has never understood the sufficiency of it.

Grace is to be in a right relationship with God. To not be in a right relationship with God is to be in sin.

Therefore, the opposite of grace is sin.

You’re slowly and subtly changing what you originally said.

Is that because you can’t support what you originally said?

 In what way?
You were specifically referencing Adam’s creation and are now moving away from that to a general statement.

Will you offer support for your claim that Adam was created in a state of grace, or will you not, and submit to the truth that at the time of Adam’s creation there was no need for grace, hence Adam’s creation in a state of innocence?

Adam was created in a state of grace, because to be in a state of grace is to be in a right relationship with God.

How could there be “no need for grace”?

Jesus died on the Cross to restore us to the original state of Adam and Eve; that’s why St. Paul says that he died in atonement for Adam’s sin.

🤷 You won’t support that, and you won’t submit to the truth.
What are you looking for, by way of support?

You haven’t disagreed yet that to be in a state of grace is to be in a right relationship with God. Adam started out in a right relationship with God - that is to say, he started out in the state of grace. You said, “No, he was innocent.”

Well, everyone who is in the state of grace is innocent - either because they have never sinned and are in a right relationship with God, or because their sins have been forgiven and washed away, and they are in a right relationship with God. Either way, they have no sins (they are innocent) and they are in a right relationship with God.

Do you disagree with that? 🤷

The innocence of Adam was that he had no knowledge of evil; that’s because there was no evil, no sin in the world at that time.

So, since he was not in a state of sin, therefore, he was in a state of grace.

The existence of grace is not dependant upon the existence of evil.

He was not in a state of sin because there was no sin; grace presupposses a need for grace; namely sin. Without sin, there is no need for grace; thus, Adam was created in a state of innocence.

And being innocent, he was in a state of grace.

Grace does not need for sin to exist, in order to exist. Grace is a right relationship with God.
