Well, the Orthodox do (according to Catholic teaching), but from the OP’s perspective they’re worse. The people who complain about altar girls really are in charge in Orthodoxy!

Edwin
I want to correct you, Orthodox have no reason to complain about alter girls. We don’t have them to complain about.šŸ™‚

I see a lot of people putting forth the argument that the Church is full of imperfect people and that it doesn’t make sense to leave the faith because its members are sinners or imperfect.

That’s a good argument. I’ll have to remember it the next time someone talks about how the Jews were unable to keep their promise to God, being sinners, and therefore Jesus came with a new covenant. šŸ™‚

Ahh and the pounding on that large green book begins. šŸ™‚

I find many Catholic go thur the motions at church but not many UNDERSTAND what those motions mean. I on the other hand have taken the time ti study it and after having done so is why I wil in fact be levaing it

I am well versed in the Catholic faith and all seven scaraments. (notice you didn’t list a number there) I can list all 7 from memory can you?

Do you mean Liturgy of the Word or Liturgical year because they are different.

I can also list both the order of Mass and the Litrugical year FROM MEMORY

Heck for that matter can you average Catholic define what a litrugy is?

Would you like to know what cycle year of reading we are on? Does your average catholic even know about years ABC for your given liturgical year?

Heck ask one average catholic parshioner to list 1 holy day of obligation and I bet most of them can not!

The list goes on here.
So basically what you’re saying is: because not all Catholics know every single thing there is to know about Catholicism, that somehow invalidates Catholicism as a whole?
Sorry but your average Catholic just goes thru the motions of sytand up, sit down. kneel, and never ever looks deeper in what it all means.

I’ll even go so far to say that alot of Catholics have no clue what the Eucharist even is or means!
How do you know this? Do you take exit polls after Mass? Do you go to their house to find out what books they’re reading? I find it very presumptuous of you to say what people are or are not looking deeper into.

And again to clearify:

Ahh and the pounding on that large green book begins. šŸ™‚

Your proud attitude won’t help you find what you are looking for. While focusing on others’ lack of knowledge about their own belief and how much you know, you won’t realize how much you are lacking of.

For being still, being quiet, being patient, and being humble, a man may find the Truth better than the one who does only the talking.

The Scriptures true value lies in the meaning. God loves us and has revealed what he has for our good. It would be meaningless if He could not preserve His truth for all men of all times and places. Our belief in the infallibility of Catholic doctrine is the manifestation of our faith in God’s love for us. The fact is, we can know for certainty, at least generally, God’s will for us. And given that general knowledge of His word, we can discern His will in specific situations as He speaks to us through our consciences which have been formed by His truth.

That doesn’t mean that all Catholics will follow that rule of faith given by God for our lives. The wheat grows with the chaff. The OP claims to be fed up with people who shun sinners, and then he claims he is going to leave the Catholic faith because of sinners. We must bear sinners with compassion and patience, as Our Lord bears us. The call to repentance must always be motivated by charity, by the call should still always be there for all of us.

I was answering the question about me not knowing anything about Catholicism as a whole.

As for an exit poll I do in fact ask many people what this or that means and they look at me with a blank face and say… Ummm Ahhhh well

Seriously do you know how many people got the worlds worse 1970 CCD schooling right after the Second Vatian Counsil? TOO MANY!

So are you saying there is no calling for you to stay and help a fellow believer?

And you know a place that every one does know every thing there is to know and understand about the Church?

And you are going there now and leaving those ignorant believers in ignorance?

I’ll even go so far to say that alot of Catholics have no clue what the Eucharist even is or means!
First, you are judging people according to appearances - you have no way of knowing what people know, or what they have studied. Just because they are not involved in Bible study or Catechism classes at this particular moment in their lives doesn’t mean that they never have been.

Second, it seems mind-bogglingly counter-productive to me that you are leaving because you think you are better catechized than other people. Why not stay, and become a leader in the Church? You could start up a Bible study class or a Catechism class, or you could help out with Youth groups or Sunday School classes.

I second this idea, J.

I just hope that if you do happen to find a perfect religion, they would let you in, and make it less perfect.

I see red, too, when I get the impression from some people that they think girl altar servers are going to get cooties on the Eucharist - but there is no other religion or church that even has the Eucharist - there is no place else to go. (And besides, those people aren’t in charge - that’s why they come here to complain. šŸ˜‰ )
My daughter is an altar server. But I usually stay out of the threads debating this issue. I understand and respect the other side’s opinion, but I don’t see how any thing that I can say will add to a discussion that sometimes gets very passionate.

I don’t hold any grudges against those who view the topic differently then me, but the feelings are so strong on this issue that I see no way to debate charitably. So, I never join in these types of threads.

I think that on this forum, we have to keep in mind that sometimes the most vocal people are not always the majority.

I see that you live in the burbs of Detroit. Have you considered that you are not being properly catechised at your current parish? You seem to know some things but are a little off the mark on some others.

I see that you are angry - and angry can be good if you use that anger to help you resolve your problem instead of stomping your feet and storming out of the room.

This coming Monday night at 7pm there is a taping of The One True Faith tv show at the Saint Michael’s Media studio in Ferndale (see the link in my signature). The tickets are free to be in the audience, and since I don’t know your real name I’ll never know who you are. I invite you to come by and see the taping of the show and perhaps discuss some of your concerns with folks on our staff, especially Michael Voris, the president of the apostolate. I’m sure he would be more than happy to talk to you about the concerns you have. We are a pretty fun group too. šŸ™‚

Please consider coming by for a visit and use some of that anger to move in a direction - not just being angry.

I’ll keep you in my prayers.

Most people don’t expect a Catechism quiz at coffee hour. I’d probably say that, too, and yet, I know my Catechism well enough.
Seriously do you know how many people got the worlds worse 1970 CCD schooling right after the Second Vatian Counsil? TOO MANY!
How is your leaving going to be part of the solution to this problem?

No I was answering the statement for others who claim I know nothing of The Liturgy, and the scarament, etc etc

Again your just poving my point that the average Catholic does not even know the points, tradtions, and meanings of his own faith!

It really amazes me to no end! Not many take the time to discover what things really mean, but they are the first ones to scream how perfect and 100% inflaliable Catholicism is!

Well, since you know all these things, then you know better than to leave the Catholic Church established by Jesus. It is more serious for you to leave than for a Catholic who doesn’t know better.

Yeah there’s just too much detail in roman catholicism that most people just dont have the luxury to examine them deeply enough. Turns me off too. I think part of Jesus’ appeal was his simplicity.

You should consider converting to Judaism. We don’t have a lot of detail or archaic rules.

You seem to have wrongly define what a religion is and what religion consists of.

I
  1. You all seem to know God’s will with 100% certainty. I mean wow if your in direct contact with God please tell us his phone number cause I myself have tons of question to as him.
Could you give some examples?. If people are stateing their opinion as coming directly from God you have a point. However if people are explaining infallible catholic Doctine that you dont agree with its another matter.
  1. Many say the Catholic church is infalliable…yeah…right…The catholic church is ran by HUMAN BEING who make mistakes. By saying the church is infalliable you just justified The Crusades, The Spain Inquisition, and more recently the Child molestion probelms. Why oh why do you follow your leaders so blindly without question. So many of you view the Pope as some kind of GOD or something.
You really need to bring this up with your RCIA instructor. You have a basic misunderstanding of the docrtine of infallibilty,It apears you are confusing ā€œinfallibleā€ with ā€œimpecableā€ Neither the Crusades ,The Spanish Inquisition or the homosexual Priest scandal have any bearing whatsoever on the whether the Church is infallible in matters of faiths and Moral.s
  1. Catholics pound on that large green book The Catechism of the Catholic faith as if it were the bible itself! I think most of you take more faithand stock in that book than you do the bible
The cathecism is a compilation of the teachings of the Church… What is in it that you disagree with?
  1. Jesus sat down with tax collectors, drunks, and (gasp) whore. to try to help them and teach them, but yet when I see someone who walks in a church that looks even remotely different from the other parishioners I see you all eyeballing them and talking about them behind there back like they were pond scum or a leeper. .
But evidently per your post he would not sit down with members of th catholic Church.
  1. My parish well now my former parish I guess has alter girls. I can remember people freaking out over that concept alone! I mean how closed minded do you want to be here people! Oh NO that little girl is up near the Eucharist (gasp) Oh the shock and horror of it all! Someone get her way form it NOW!!!
Altar girls are apporved by the church. The fact some people have problems with it is in no way a reflection of the Church.
  1. John Paul II wait let me say John Paul II THE GREAT was awesome! He was and still is in my book THE BEST POPE EVER I really miss him! But this Pope Benedict XVI appears to be trying to take us back to the day before the Second Vatican Council. Yeah… let us return to the dark ages and get rid of them evil alter girls and the like.
Again you show a misunderstandin gof the doctrine of No Salvation outside the Church. Benedict and John Paul the Great shared the same view. It is a doctrine that has remained unchanged for 2,000 year
  1. This is the main reason why I well be leaving the church. I have seen a Catholic Priest leave the church recently. And I see about 98% of you CONDEMING THE MAN TO HELL FOR IT!!! GOING TO HELL AND ABOUT HOW HE LET US ALL DOWN.
Priests are neither excommunicated nor condemend to hell for leaving the priesthood. in most cases they are laicized and can marry and be in full communion with the Church.
You same people who condem the man turn right back around and go back to your little closed in world and preach ā€œLove your neighbor!!ā€ What you SHOULD be reading is this one First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye" Or better yet re-read the story about the women caught in the act of adulty. Let he who is without sin throw the first stone.
Again you anger is directed towards a doctrine that not exist.
Hypocrites!!! Not all of you, but damm near most of you!

I will be quiting my RCIA classes and seeking out other faiths.

I hope this post doesn’t get deleted, but if it does its just more proof that anything non-catholic and of an opposing viewpoint will never ever be tolerated and must be destoryed at all cost. Lord forgive me for having my own opinon and thinking for myself and not following people blindly huh?
Given the fact you have not gained an even basic understanding of the Church or its doctrines it would appear RCIA is a waste of time for you.

ALL of your objections have nothing whatsover to do with the Church as it exisists-they are all based on you erroneous interpretation of what you have heard and read.

I see a lot of people putting forth the argument that the Church is full of imperfect people and that it doesn’t make sense to leave the faith because its members are sinners or imperfect.

GOOD POINT! šŸ‘ šŸ‘
