This verse here does it mean that Jesus will NEVER leave us even during our DARKEST times on earth and when it feels like all hope against hope is totally gone?..like for example a person goes into total debt by the mistake of others, is fired from his job, falls into total utter depression and cant function normally and his wife leaves him…leaving him totally ALONE…if you apply this verse to this person, would this imply that if you have faith God will somehow make a way to restore what He lost and give him back his life?..

Maybe, but not necessarily. I always assumed that this mainly means that God will not abandon you spiritually - ie no matter how bad things get he will always provide you with the grace to be a good person and avoid sin, and it’s possible for this to happen even during prolonged financial destitution. Maybe God will restore your material possessions, and maybe he won’t, but that will have no bearing on the state of your soul, which is infinitely more important.

So it means that although you may have lost yourself and everything on this earth, you are still saved and eternity is yours?

If you still are faithful to God, then yes. Although it would still be possible to willfully turn from God and end up eternally separated from him. Someone who has everything in the world but not God will still end up eternally miserable. Someone who has nothing in this world but has God will eventually be eternally happy.

Remember Jesus came to teach us how to suffer and carry the crosses of this life. He told us to pick up our crosses and follow him. Think of what he went through. They took his clothes from him, put a crown of thorns on his head, nailed him to the cross in front of all the onlookers making fun of him. He was showing us there is more to this life. Eternal life is SO MUCH MORE!
I’m praying for you. Jesus won’t leave you, he understands, TOTALLY!

…I am going through a very tough time right now, physically, mentally, spiritually in All ways…So what I am feeling and going through, God feels and understands right?Although no other human being may really feel my pain and suffering, God feels and knows?

Thanks for the responses

I’m sorry you are going through a difficult time. Talking about suffering is one thing, but actually living it (like you are) is completely different, and is a struggle even for the best of us. And I’m sure that many of the normal Christian answers are cold comfort to someone who is actually in the trenches. It might be helpful to view this as being forged by fire. Virtue is much harder to practice, and much more valuable, when life is painful.

One of my favorite passages from CS Lewis:
“Do not be deceived, Wormwood. Our cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring, but still intending, to do our Enemy’s will, looks round upon a universe from which every trace of Him seems to have vanished, and asks why he has been forsaken, and still obeys.”

The God the Christian faith professes is a God who became man and went through our daily life, our joys and sorrows; who was betrayed, abandoned by his friends, arrested and tried for offenses He hadn’t committed, stripped of everything He had, and put to death like a criminal.

I am convinced that He knows what this feels like, and He understands.

Yes, he does.

Yes, the verse does mean that God will NEVER leave you. But, you must pray. The person’ can’t give up hope. They have to trust in God. I’ll pray for you. 🙏 🙏 🙏

This implies that God will never leave you or forsake you, He is with you in the darkest times. As the psalmist said

Where can I go from your spirit?

From your presence, where can I flee?

If I ascend to the heavens, you are there;

if I lie down in Sheol, there you are.

If I take the wings of dawn

and dwell beyond the sea,

Even there your hand guides me,

your right hand holds me fast.

Christ never promised us jobs or wealth or the respect of others or miraculous healings or even marriages. Christ was very clear, Christians will suffer but He will be in the suffering with us so much that we can rejoice in our sufferings. He gave us doctors to help us be healthy.

Please seek help from a priest and a counselor for your depression. It is a real thing that medical science can treat!!

If you read the book of Job, he went thru the almost the same, he came out better, for trusting in God.

God feels and understands right?
Yes. Christ became man so He could know our pain. He was rejected by friends, heck, one of His best friends betrayed. He was having so much mental suffering in the garden that He sweat drops of blood. This is a real medical condition that only happens under extreme stress, like during torture.
Although no other human being may really feel my pain and suffering, God feels and knows?
Remember, every human being suffers. You may not see their suffering, I once lost everything, job, career, house, boat, even my dogs, was almost homeless except found a ratty trailer to live in (no dogs allowed). I would still attend events with my makeup and hair done, I’d smile and raise funds for a charity, no one knew my suffering.

That does not mean what I did was healthy, in fact, it was wrong of me not to admit to my poverty and loss, embrace my cross and keep going. That took years, don’t waste years as I did.

Thank you so much for all the lovely responses…I came down with a pretty much incurable illness some 2 years ago…ever since then the disease has robbed me completely of myself and my life…severe anxiety/depression, not being able to think clearly and function like a human being due to the severe depression it brought…spiritual losses, physical damages to my body, severe emotional distress…humiliation and misunderstandments from people, including my own family…I will endure til the end trusting God and His plan for me. God bless you all

Listen, Heaveniswaiting… I just finished a book called Saint John Paul the Great by Jason Evert. A most interesting part in there was about JP II being a healthy athlete and then becoming Pope. He loved to ski but his official duties didn’t allow for much of it. He loved all people, young people, old people… He himself had lots of ailments. Broken bones, got shot, and became old and disabled. He taught the people not to waste their crosses of ill health but to offer them up for the church or some other worthy cause… family, country, people you love. He believed in that and he showed us all how to do it. People wanted him to quit the papacy because of his illnesses later in life but he chose to show us how to live life to the very end. I’m praying for you. This life isn’t easy. Please try to get the book and read it. I did a poor job of trying to describe it. I think it costs $2.

The Lord indeed never does abandon you, when the world and all of humanity seem to abandoned the truth, beauty and goodness of everything there still stands the Lord with his Bridegroom, Holy Mother Church even if her members at times seem like they fail to embrace the light the Lord is still there by your side. Take it from someone who has experienced desolation from his friends, Parish and family and work. Even when they’re still standing next to you perfectly fine you can’t feel they’re love because of a desolation of senses.

Yes, Jesus knows and understands. We have a Lord and Savior who came down to earth and was human, so he understands our suffering. He knows what you’re going through and how you’re feeling before you even tell Him, even if you can’t find the words.

One thing that has helped me, and forgive me if its not a bible verse and i don’t remember where i got it from…but its an idea. A saying.

Nothing is a surprise to God. He knows everything that’s happening and going to happen. Everything that is going on can and will be made to work for His glory. Perhaps it will be meant to help me, even if just to teach me how to rely on Him in times of suffering. Or perhaps its meant to help someone else.

It just helps me to have that bit as context for everything. To remind myself that Jesus is Lord and he’s in control no matter what. And even if i’m suffering, there is good in it. Even if its not obvious.

He knows. He made your heart and knows its stirrings. He became human to live it all and suffer it all with us and for us. He loves you and wants you to know His peace that surpasses all understaning. ❤️
