Idea for church picnic: "LOVE FEST"

My slogan was designed to disturb people into awareness. C’mon people! WHY is it that the far left media can make fortunes as shock-jocks, but the minute I try to shock people into goodness, people run away from it? Have we been propagandized that badly? Where’s the sense of humor in it? Have any of you seen how goofy some of these movies are? Why are we not entitled to have some of the same fun with it? At least it would get people to think about it.
The reality is that you still have to work with people, and they have opinions. I assume you’re a male yourself, going by your pen name, but as a bloke, it sounds a bit too Mills and Booney to have any attraction to me. It would turn me right off.

Women might like it, but I don’t presume to speak for them.

I’d suggest another name, even if it’s a spoof of Woodstock or something like that.

National Lampoon had a spoof called “Woodshuck: Three Days of Peace, Love and Death”, but I don’t suppose you could use that. Er, how about “Catholic Corroboree”, which is an aboriginal festival of eating, singing and dancing? Nah … that sounds a bit corny as well.

Whatever. But I think you need to change it.

Boy, this is exciting! I can’t remember the last time I’ve been to a combination picnic / Hypocrite Exposition! Will there be prizes and punishments?
No, just a fair shot at true enlightenment instead of bigoted enlightenment. 😃 Some will be pretty shaken up when they find out how they’ve been duped.

IMHO, I think you’re working too hard to convince this forum that your idea works. There’s a difference between thinking outside of the box and sending a message only a few people will get or find compelling.

I would guess most of those posting here typically support their parish functions. If they tell you your concept is confusing, unclear, provocative (not in a good way), non-family oriented, then perhaps you should listen. We are not all close minded. But, if you want people to come, then you need to be clear what it’s all about. You can utilize the Love concept at the function in many other ways.

God Bless You.
Why is “thinking outside the box” only for leftists??? If “only a few people get it,” what does that say about society??? How open minded could people possibly be if only a few get it? That’s my point. Many many people aren’t really open minded to all different views. They’re only open in the directions that the far left media dictates. They’re closed minded, but they think they’re open minded.

Some alleged family TV shows are, as you characterize, “confusing, unclear, provocative (not in a good way), non-family oriented” but people can’t wait to watch them. Why is THAT ok?

I agree that my message should be clearer, but how can it be done on a billboard without sounding lecturey? That’s why I was trying to make the message “different and mysterious” enough to be interesting.

This thread has me a little confused. Have you actually been commissioned with planning a parish picnic already, or is this an idea that you have that you have yet to get permission for?

If it’s a regular parish thing that you’ve been asked to coordinate, I think it’s wrong of you to take it and try to push your own (confusing) agenda onto people who just want to spend some time together as parishioners.

If it’s your own idea and you’re doing this on your own, I don’t think a parish picnic is the proper forum to “expose hypocrites” (I’m not even sure what you mean by that). Who are the hypocrites? People who choose not to attend a picnic called “love fest” because they think it’s weird?

If the purpose of this thread was to get our opinions regarding whether this was a good idea or not, I think you have your answer. If it was to promote your agenda, I think most of us are still confused. If you really do care about parish social life, you’ll want everyone to attend, in which case you’ll advertise a normal picnic without trying to make people figure out what you’re saying and without trying to “expose hypocrites”.

Interesting, I never thought “thinking outside the box” as a leftist only concept. I thought it was being innovative.

Love, Love, Love your “Love Festival”. When connected with a church, this message is loud and clear. I think your regulars will attend, as well as, some newcomers.

Hope your picnic is successful and you reach some new souls.

God Bless your efforts.

The sneaky Woodstockers changed Love from emotional and spiritual to physical and chemical. Now, when I try to change it back in a sneaky way, there will be those who get it, and those who are intolerant of my attempt to take love back. I fight for good, and I get mocked. Sheesh. When the liberal media is sneaky to change public perception, their loyal soldiers come running. When I’m sneaky, the soldiers come out against it. Where do people’s loyalties lie? It’s like people have been brainwashed, and not in a good way. Scary.
