Interesting - why only state the first part of it and leave the rest out in these cases?

Thou shalt have no other gods before me… (Exodus 20:3 KJV)

We must worship God…
  1. Exclusively
  2. Spiritually
Code:
*God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24 KJV)*
  1. Sincerely
  2. Regulary
These are the first four commandments…

Why decide to break the last one up - covetousness is covetousness…

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ***, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s. (Exodus 20:17 KJV)

To hide something?
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS CHART

I doubt VERY seriously if you, your faith community, or your preacher has ever put in a tenth of the study into the Ten Commandments that every Catholic has access to here in the Catechism.

(Cont’d)

Why do you call me a bigot because I don’t like to see people adoring or venerating (or just plain worshipping) statues? Are the Jews “anti-Catholic bigots” because they ban images? Are the Muslims? Are the… Protestants? I don’t think so. Why do you think all these different groups abhor religious icons but the Catholics don’t?
Because Catholics know better than get sucked into such nonsense. It’s nice to know who your bed-partners are.

I call you a bigot because your only purpose for entering this forum was to antagonize. You could care less what the Catholic view on this subject is. That makes you an anti-Catholic bigot. We have explained our position…you don’t accept it…but you’re still here. That makes you an anti-Catholic bigot, otherwise you would have said long ago, “Thank you and good-bye,” but you’re still here antagonizing. That makes you an anti-Catholic bigot.

IN BRIEF

Now try to tell us that we don’t know what we’re talking about or that we don’t read and study the Word of God. 🤷

Welcome to the Forum. 🙂

The reason we Catholics - and Orthodox - truly have honor for things we can see and feel, etc., has to do with the Incarnation in that Catholicism understands and appreciates the reality of the Incarnation, whereas much of Protestantism merely pays it lip service without truly appreciating what it means for God to have become Man; as St. Paul says of Christ: “He is the visible image of the invisible God; and so in seeing Him we are caught up in love for the God we cannot see.”

I suggest going to read the prophecies over my friend… God’s I WiII and God’s Curses. Read: Isaias and Jeremias over and over it is filled with God’s disgust of doing these things. God fortells the coming of Christ what we have done to him etc and foretells the end God’s warth for doing them.

Please speak for yourself when addressing Catholic’s when you say Catholics…"honour of things we can see and feel’. So I ask you we honour statues of Mary, Jesus. It “feels” like a stone and looks like we used paint in different colours. I ask you do you know what God’s image is? Are we not created in God’s image? can you not touch me? Happy are those who have not seen yet believe for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

Next you say: Quote… “Protestantism merely pays lip service without truly appreciating what it means to have become man. What it means for God to have become man”. You know God’s thoughts do we? How insulting as a Catholic to judge anyone or know anyone’s heart or soul my friend. Sounds Protestant bashing from a Catholic to me and I do not see God’s IMAGE in you, shame on you.

Next you say: Quote Mary and the other Saints who reflect Christ
thereby reflect the Fathers Glory. “WE” God’s children are also to reflect the Fathers glory for were created in the IMAGE of God our Father. I ask you is this not true, did God not tell us that we were created in his IMAGE?

Old Law, New Law…God is the same today as yesterday. god is not dead my friend but all seeing, all knowing. God is the Great I AM the beginning and the end…Read Apocalypse.

Jesus… accomplished the VISIBLE WORKS so the INVISIBLE GOD could be seen.

Next I Quote you: If everything is merely spiritual why did Jesus need to come in the flesh at all!!"

So “MERELY” spiritual is of “no value or importance”.? Remember Adam and Eve where spiritual till they sinned and God’s wrath removed them from Heaven. What did they do after they sinned, they sought to cover themselves immediately. God loved them Dearly. God removed them from Heaven, from his garden, God also covered them. God said " If you eat from the tree of good and evil" God said: “you will surely die” God means what he says and does what he means, don’t you think? That is why Jesus in “great humility and humbleness” came to us in the “FLESH”. For we would not see him “spiritually”, don’t you think?

I believe I will not go to hell if I chose not to have statues or pictures, icon in my home or what ever. I rather seek to become the image of God. “To me” I feel I insult God by doing so.

Jesus did not have his apostles make one to show us what God look like. And they kept asking about God. If you see me you see my Father he not mean Flesh. Jesus accomplished God’s visible works so the invisible God could be seen.

What is God’s “IMAGE”. THE GREAT I AM, ALL HOLY, ALL SCARED, ALL LOVE, ALL TRUTH, CREATOR OF ALL SEEN AND UNSEEN, ALL MIGHTY, ALL POWERFUL, ALL UNDERSTANDING, ALL SEEING, ALL KNOWLEDGE, ALL INFINITE, ALL WISDOM, ALL GLORY, ALL HONOUR, ALL COMPASSION, ALL MERCYFUL, ALL GIVING, ALL SORROWFUL, ALL GRACE, ALL BLESSING, ALL PATIENCE, ALL CARING, ALL PROVIDING. I could go on and on. Now I “ask myself” how can I even “think” I could make a statue or whatever out of stone, paint it, gaze upon it, touch it, kiss it, bless it, bow before it, talk to it, ask it, dust it off, having to carry it, place it, pick it up if it falls, repair it if cracks, paint it, put painted black eyes on it and even think that I am giving honour worship in doing such a thing and comparing it with “God the great I AM”. When “I am” the temple of the Lord who dwells in me. When I was created in God’s IMAGE. No I seek to become the 'Holy" image of God my Father

God Bless …a very little child of God. God when I look in the mirror I seek “your image” before me.

IN BRIEF

Now try to tell us that we don’t know what we’re talking about or that we don’t read and study the Word of God. 🤷
Now we have to do one thing… live it!

The question wasn’t for me but I have to answer that. I have never asked any saint to pray for me. I can reconcile my beliefs with scripture easily by quoting from the Deuteronomy 18:10

"Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in [a] the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft,or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead
."

Anyway, how can I pray to the dead? I mean, i can do it but how could they hear me? Only God is omniscient.Hey…you’re so smart.

Lemme see. If I was to actually study to show myself approved unto God, I might even find a good Bible study on The Communion of Saints and even get to listen to a free MP3 of it here, but then that would have to depend on just how honestly someone wanted to know the facts (from the Word of God!) about what they are talking about. It’s a long long way from anything like necromancy.

So what’s the difference between Greek idols and Catholic ones?
The main difference is that our statues represent people that we’re supposed to revere, or in the case of Jesus, worship. By giving honor and worship to those people, we’re honoring God.

The Greek idols were to other gods, like Zeus. They were used to worship false gods. Ours are used to worship the one true God.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask.

But we have addressed your OP and refuted your claims. Your mind is so closed that you cannot see this.

Talking about idols image icons etc.

My dear Uncle was a Protestant, I know he is now in Heaven through God’s great mercy. I am Catholic but he was more Catholic than me or most Catholics I know because I saw God’s “image in him” every time we met. So did many many many many many others

God Bless a very little child of God.

Why do you call me a bigot because I don’t like to see people adoring or venerating (or just plain worshipping) statues?
Bigotry is fed and breeds on ignorance and propaganda, and so far all you have posted…including the wording of this post are exemplary of that.
Are the Jews “anti-Catholic bigots” because they ban images?
Do Jews ban images? I think not. I suggest that you look at the commands for the construction for the Ark of the Covenant. Did the Jews ban images there? What was there big as life on the very top of the Ark?http://www.phoenixmasonry.org/masonicmuseum/images/the new ark.jpg
Are the Muslims?
Fundamentalist Muslims (like the Talliban) forbid even the photographs of family and scenics. Are you saying that they are correct and are you willing to join them based on your reading of the Word Of God?
Are the… Protestants? I don’t think so.
Well, you think wrong, as has been demonstrated to you several times by patient Catholics, but you appear to be too closed channel to even actually check the sources that we offer. When you have done all that then perhaps you can better discuss.
Why do you think all these different groups abhor religious icons but the Catholics don’t?
No, what you have offered is your own personal interpretation of what we and others believe and think, not what they or even the Word of God actually teaches.

In fact if one makes an objective study of it all, one discovers that you are the one in error.

But we have addressed your OP and refuted your claims. Your mind is so closed that you cannot see this.
Elizabeth. My whole intention in starting this thread wasn’t to make any claims. I simply asked why Catholics “adore” or “venerate” images. The only reply i’ve had is that it helps or inspires people in some way. I personally find this hard to believe because a block of marble or stone doesn’t have any of those effects on me.

William Churchill was a great man but I’d be abhorred if i saw someone prostrating themselves in front of a statue of him. Same with the a statue of Mary or the Saints… We’ll all just have to disagree on this, i think.

… and to the guy who mentioned the Jews: the making of the cherubim images was a command of God. I don’t know why, but i know it wasnt because he wanted the Isrealites to worship the cherubim… Go into a synagogue and hunt around for images. You won’t find any.

.So… your personal experience is the basis upon which all Christians in 2,000 years can validly be judged? Yeah… right.
William Churchill was a great man but I’d be abhorred if i saw someone prostrating themselves in front of a statue of him.
Let me know when you see that…
Same with the a statue of Mary or the Saints… We’ll all just have to disagree on this, i think.
Sure would like to know just who around here has ever seen anyone prostrated before an image in a Catholic Church. I sure haven’t!

I HAVE seen n-Cs prostrated all over the steps of their platforms leading to the pulpits and the front of their buildings. Does that give you issues too?

No… we can disagree 'til hell freezes over, but YOU need to do your own homework and stop believing everything that non-Catholics or anti-Catholics tell you about the Catholic faith because it’s like getting info on brain surgery from a garbage man.

We are all called to become Saints, to become “HOLY” We are the Temple of the Lord, the Lord dwells in us. God created us in his “IMAGE”. “Seek my “IMAGE” before you always.” To me this means…seek to become all that “I AM”…HOLY instead of my will, my desire. Seek me (God) ask me, talk to me, you need not look far.

I do not see God or his IMAGE in a stone craved statue, painted. My flesh is dead to sin, rather now I use my hands my dead flesh to do good. …Charity

God Bless… a very little child of God

You are trying to tell us that we are doing something we are not. Not sure why you insist on that.

You come to this thread and make false accusations. Instead, why not just do a little research on what the Church really teaches, and why.

You must not have been to one lately… they are adorned with all kids of art.

And while we’re on the subject… didn’t you ever read the description of the temple of Solomon? The one that the Jews will someday rebuild? It’s right there beginning in 1st Kings 6. Read that and then tell me that the Jews and God reject images. It’s just simply not true just as it is not true that Catholics are idolaters and worship images.

The truth is that the man made images of the Lord Jesus on the cross are false. These false man made images of the Lord Jesus show a lack of reverence and respect for the blessed Lord Jesus.

The reason I say this is because no man made image can recreate the awesome sacrificial death of the blessed Lord Jesus on the cross.

The Lord Jesus is truly awesome and what the Lord Jesus did on the cross is so, so truly awesome. When I read the God inspired account of the Lord Jesus’ death on the cross in the Sacred Scriptures im truly amazed at His great awesome sacrifice.

The false man made images of the Lord Jesus on the cross are a gross insult to our blessed Lord Jesus and to what He did on the cross. I mean how dare any feeble man make a false image of the Lord Jesus on the cross and take away from what the blessed Lord Jesus did on the cross. I have seen false man made images of the Lord Jesus on the cross and they’re all so sanitized, they don’t show the true terrible suffering and agony that the Lord Jesus endured on the cross.

The truth is no man made image can recreate what the Lord Jesus did on the cross and any attempt by any person to do this is a gross insult to the blessed Lord Jesus. The God inspired 100% true account of the Lord Jesus’ death on the cross tells us what actually happened to the Lord Jesus on the cross. God’s 100% true account of the Lord Jesus’ death on the cross truly gives honor and glory to the Lord Jesus.

There’s no need for false man made images of the Lord Jesus on the cross to help people to remember His perfect sacrifice because God has give us His inspired 100% true account of the Lord Jesus’ death on the cross in His written Word, the Sacred Scriptures.
