Good point. However, it helps to have certain human elements on your side as well.

Don’t people want to actually be challenged to move beyond their comfort zone or do they just want someone to agree with?

Fr. John Corapi is a great witness to the Faith, and that is why people love him. There is no more to it than that.

*We have joined a wonderful blossoming parish. It’s relatively new, as the area I live in is growing. I have never been a part of a fledgling type parish… we love the priests, it’s a most reverent and holy experience going to mass here.

BUT, the parishes prior to this one, where we attended mass, Father Corapi is gravely needed there!! I think he would fall over at what goes on in some of these Florida parishes. I love Fr Corapi, it would be interesting!*

July 1st we get a new pastor…and if it were Fr.Corapi, I would think I had died and went to heaven. I hope our new pastor is as faith-filled and as connected to the catechism as Fr.Corapi certainly is.

If any people would rise up in revolt over that then they aren’t really Catholic, are they?
I mean honestly, the man knows the Cathechism and the Vatican II Documents and all the Church teachings like the back of his hand, what’s not to like if you’re a Catholic?

That is the main thing I admire and respect about him, since I don’t really know him.
I would dearly love to be as erudite, and be able to answer the usuall ‘it doesn’t say that in the Bible’ ripostes that people come up with in moral debates.

I would go to whichever mass he was not celebrating because I cannot stand his loud voice. I find him abrasive sounding and his delivery of sermons overly theatric. I don’t follow a cult of personality, …

I think your point about the cult of personality is indeed a very good one. Complaining about a persons voice is a bit unforgiving though. The one thing that sometimes bugs me though is singing in mass. When JPII said it was only unbecoming for a cardinal to ski badly, l think singing should only be done if done well. Which is why I don’t sing:blush:
Still, I accept when others do it well/badly(only in my opinion) that it is for the glory of God.

Is this true? If so, I would have to say I would have issues with that. I know gun culture is somewhat different in USA. But still…

Personally I think God has called all priests for a reason. Each brings his own gifts to his ministry. I have seen traditional priests; devout and holy men, the learned monsignor types; who,in the midst of their books and knowledge have not lost sight of their compassion and humanity, the old priest who struggles on against his infirmities, and, the salt of the earth types who have a bewildering knack of explaining complex ideas in terms a child can understand. I feel grateful for having met them all. I would be grateful to meet and know Fr Corapi too.

On the contrary - while I was listening to his series on the Catechism I found myself BOTH learning new things, being challenged to move beyond my comfort zone AND agreeing with everything he said.

He put the things I knew already into words probably better than I ever could, and at the same time did speak to a lot of stuff I didn’t already know and for that matter hadn’t thought about before.

And who does Father Corapi point the finger at and call terrible? Sinners? Well, doesn’t our Lord often have a few choice words for sinners in the Gospels? Having heard a lot of what he has to say, I’ve heard every bit as much compassion from him as anything else. Just no nonsense.

It cetainly is a pity that Catholics are so quick to stone their priests…Fr Corapi has never done anything, or said anything, to my knowledge, that was counter to the Magersterium, scripture, and tradition

One of the holiest priest I ever knew was a hunter and kept guns…I think some on this thread need tp look at the plank in their own eye

When our present pastor retires, we’d be pleased to have Fr. Corapi…or, well, he’d probably please or try the sensibilities of pretty much the same people that our present pastor does. They’re quite different, but not in the essentials of what they find worth defending and promoting, and how up-front they’re willing to be in doing it. I’m sure we’d get some new parishioners, too, on account of Fr. Corapi’s notoriety via Portland’s KBVM radio. Until our present pastor retires, though, we wouldn’t want anyone else.

As for the gun, anyone who can fog a mirror and has no criminal record can currently get a concealed weapons permit in Clackamas County, Oregon. He’d have to leave the gun home to take mass transit, things like that, but that’s about it. I’m sure he’d be willing to abide by local law on that, though.

My main concern is that Fr. Corapi might travel too much, because he is in such demand as a speaker. If that were the case, I would hope that he’d be assigned to a parish with more than a single priest in residence, not one like ours, which has only the one.
