If God already knows the future does that mean it is meaningless for us to be good people?

In other words, you are saying that we CAN CHANGE THE FUTURE right?

I am not refering to how God knows how we will choose. I am refering to God actually watching the future happening before it happen to us like watching a TV screen as God works outside our Earth time-space dimension.

Yes, God knows everything that ever happens, even things that are still in the future to us. But he knows what we do freely choose; he does not decree what we must choose.

For example, peter denied Jesus 3 times before the rooster crows. Jesus already knows the future and his own destiny. Peter cannot change this eventhough he promised he would never deny Jesus.

Since the outcome is already determined this means there is fate and destiny right?

The outcome is only determined AFTER you determine it. God observes that decision in advance, but it is still your decision.

If God already knows the future, it would be best to do as God guides you.

If your friend Herbert already knows the future, you would probably take his advice. So if God, whom you trust and who is omniscient, knows the future, wouldn’t it be better (than following Herbert’s lead) to get to know God and do whatever God guides you to do?

Try not to have a linear view of the future.

The past is fixed, in the present we are in flux, and the future is like the many branches of a tree.

God exists outside of time thus can see all possible futures and all possible pasts that could have been.

Free will is a gift since we can choose which path we go down.

However God’s will is a gift to us since with His knowledge He creates an outline for each of us. Over time God updates His will for us as we use our free will.

A prophet unusually has warning about a possible outcome which can be avoided.

However due to various circumstances some outcomes may be unavoidable. Like a persons psychology, when looking at Peter’s denial of Christ due to fear. Or the birth of Christ due to it being God’s will for humanity as a whole.

The true miracle from God is that one can be very far from their original plan for life but can return back to God and have God create a new plan for their life. Think of all the saints who lived less then holy lives only to turn to God at some point and do amazing things.

Peace

No. The outcome is known. It is not predetermined.

It took me a goodly portion of my life to understand the difference, so don’t feel bad or anything, but there is a difference.

We are meant to try to change and be pleasing to God. The Divine Mercy is Jesus asking us to turn to God’s Mercy. God is basically saying anyone can change their life even the most hardened sinner if they turn to His mercy. We can change and that is what God wants.

In other words, you believe parallel universe or multiverse exist.

If the future states that I am destined to be a bad guy there is no point in trying my best to become a good guy anymore right?
The thing with free will is that you are ultimately responsible for your choices. God knows the future, He does not will your future, as He respects your free will. Your salvation is contingent on you choosing to respond to God’s grace. So you will be condemned only if you choose to reject God’s grace. it’s not God’s will at work, it’s your free will at work.

This applies to everything in our life. God knows the outcome of all the combination of our choices. the key phrase praise is our choices. God is constantly calling us to repentance, to pray always, to put our lives in His hands and to trust in His providence. And this is a daily work. Thus there re countless outcomes in our daily life depending on our choices.
  1. The farmer is destined to be killed by the wolf provided he forgets to take his rifle.
  2. The farmer is destined to kill the wolf provided he remembered to take his rifle.
  3. The farmer will remember to take his rifle provided his wife prayed for him to have a safe journey.
You are not destined for hell, unless you reject what Jesus told us to do…

it’s not God’s will at work, it’s your free will at work.
In other words, you are saying that the future is not fixed. There is no fixed destiny and we can change our future. Different decisions lead to different future.

Is that like when your gps says “recalculating…” when you take a route outside it’s preset route? 😄

No. The outcome is known . It is not predetermined .
In other words, you are saying that the future can change based on our decision. What if Peter did not deny Jesus 3 times before the rooster crow?

That would have been better; though Jesus knew what he would do, Thus Jesus told Peter that he prayed for him that after he came back He would strengthen the brethren.

There is no fixed destiny and we can change our future. Different decisions lead to different future.
Obviously tha is what free will is all about; for us that change of heart is possible inside of time. When we die our soul enters eternity where there is no past or future just an eternal present. So there is no more time to make choices in eternity.

Well, presumably Jesus would not have predicted Peter’s denial, or would have stated it as a conditional thing, if Peter was not going to do it. So the whole story would be different.

We would not get a “Jesus told Peter, from His omniscience, what Peter would do … but Peter didn’t actually do that” story.
