🙂 hi excuse me for jumping in; when a catholic says we are created in God’s image it is a reference to our nature. since God is pure spirit with no matter to make a shape we do not look like Him. our spirit is also our soul. man is the only created thing to have a soul that is a spirit. plants and animals have souls. it is these souls which thier life force comes from. when an animal ceases it’s soul goes back to God. Angels are also pure spirit with no matter. can any one measure a thought ?what shape is a thought? we can design a simple house in our minds yet we can not measure it.
Yes God is a spirit. But Satan existed in the Garden as a beast of the field. Cherubim are of the same likeness Adam and Eve were before they were kicked out.

So you are saying that no man can ascend to be a god himself?
Yes, but not in the sense that they can supplant God the Father or His Son Jesus Christ. To us deification merely defines a degree of salvation in the kingdom of God. We will still be worshipping the one God of heaven. It does not mean that we somehow get to compete with or act in rivalry with God.

And then there is a God above our God, etc. I know the doctrine, and so it doesn’t help much when all men can be deities anyway. Know what I mean.

That hasn’t happened yet, it happens when Satan is defeated and there is no more sin that can erase God’s Word. There will only be goodness and we’ll always do the right thing when Satan is gone.

How do you know that is hasn’t happened yet?

Romans 2 talks about it in present (not future) tense (God’s Word being written on man’s heart):

Romans 2:14-16
14For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

15Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

16In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

And Job as well speaks of God’s Word in his heart in the present tence (not in the future):

“Receive, I pray thee, the law from His mouth, and lay up His words in thy heart” (Job 22:22).

We believe God the Father was conversing with His Son Jesus Christ as the world was being created. We know that from modern LDS scripture:

Moses 2:

26 And I, God, said unto mine Only Begotten, which was with me from the beginning: Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and it was so. . . .

Mormon?

Hi Zerinus. Nice to meet you.

How do you know that is hasn’t happened yet?
We have shadows of it, and we can be very successful in keeping from sin through our faith. But sooner or later God’s Word is erased by temptation and we sin. I’m saying the New Covenant isn’t all the way in effect until we are sinless and living there with God forever

God doesn’t have a face of flesh, He is a spirit. But we are in God’s likeness in that we can love, hate, etc. But not physically, that part goes to the angels.
So who’s image did God make Jesus in if not in His own when Jesus said that those who’ve seen Him, have seen The Father, The One Who sent Him?

And again, God said “let Us make man in Our image”.

“Image” literally means physical likeness.

And He said in “Our” image…so He relates His image directly to the other Person He is refering to literally.

Satan was not seen as a beast.

The word “serpent” means untrustworthy person.

If he had been a snake from the beginning, then how could he be punished to crawl on his belly if he was already crawling on his belly as a snake?

But what about the Scriptures (not “shadows”) that state that The Word of God is already written on men’s hearts that I produced?

You do? How amazing! You seem to know everything! Looks like you have attained to godhood already! Congradularions!

Satan was not seen as a beast.
Sure he was:

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
The word “serpent” means untrustworthy person.
Jesus wouldn’t have compared himself to one if it did. The serpent was supposed to be a help-meet for Adam.

John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
If he had been a snake from the beginning, then how could he be punished to crawl on his belly if he was already crawling on his belly as a snake?

That is a metaphor about Satan having dominion over man, not about a snake. The serpent is a dragon, like the cherubim in Ezekiel. Adam is cursed to die and become dust. The serpent is cursed to eat dust (Adam) into his belly of Hell.

Jonah 2:1-2 Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s (sea serpent’s) belly, And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me;** out of the belly of hell cried I**, and thou heardest my voice.

There is only One Deity and it is the Triune Godhead.
Words and commands, not another deity.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

hi FaithofAbraham so we should all be Jewish then is that what you are implying? Did not God enter into a covenant with the Jewish peoples? I do not know anything of your group so please forgive my ignorance of your beliefs. Responding to your post stating the new covenant has yet to be enforced. 2ndGen,but before the Second person appeared on this earth in his human form He existed as the eternal Son of the Father…but in His divine nature., in the one Godthe Second Person shares through the First Person the one divine nature…The Third Person is the Holy Spirit.put it this way 1person+1person+1person=3persons sharing the same nature 1nature x 1nature x 1nature=1nature

In my belief there is just one God, what He says are His Words. When God’s Spirit dwells in a man, like a prophet, the man speaks God’s Word and is God’s Word to the people. But the man is not a deity, he is still a human being.

Being Jewish means observing Torah. It’s ok to be Jewish and accept Jesus as human Messiah. And it’s ok to just be Gentile and observe only those few Laws in Acts 15. And for both, what Jesus taught about how to worship God and how to treat each other.

No one should tell Jews not to observe Torah, because that’s what a Jew is and does. And no one should be a Judaizer and pressure Gentiles to convert to Judaism and observe all of Torah either.

🙂 so if iam observing correctly all who belive as you do are prophets? our faith is when Jesus said He and the Father are one he meant this of His divine nature.

I heard about Catholics and Mormons manning soup kitchens togther…do you know anything about this? Combined charitable works?
I don’t know too much about the soup kitchens; but I do know that the LDS Church cooperates quite extensively with the Catholic Church in humanitarian relief work, especially overseas. Because the Catholic Church has had a longer presence in many third world and African countries, they have a better network for extending humanitarian relief in those areas, and the LDS Church has over the years donated many millions of dollars to the Catholic Church for humanitarian relief in those parts of the world.
