The title comes from a website for freelance writers. There were at least sixty responders who forwarded their answers. Below are short excerpts:

“It is beyond reproach that the lack of love for GOD by the persons created divine at the beginning of time and upon the glorious visitation of Him who is GOD in the divine Person of the Messiah is the main root and culprit of the “so much pain” in the world from generation to generation up to these times of unbridled religious hypocrisy and spiritual bankruptcy.”

“There is so much pain in the world because there is no genuine love for GOD. Everything is directed to self. It is not the selfless love of GOD for His hard-headed creatures that is the cause of so much pain in this miserable world. Rather, it is the selfishness of the human person. It keeps blaming GOD for its misery.”

Welcome to the forum 🙂

Life is a test for hereafter . That’s why we have to suffer but must show patience .

As I understand the Bible, the reason there is so much pain in the world is because we chose to rebel against our Creator.

The reason God has allowed this situation to continue so long is in order to teach the truth about the consequences of this rebellion, which is essentially the truth about self-centeredness: that it results in death and destruction.

We wanted to be “like God.” He is independent of any creature. Through Adam and Eve, we chose to be independent of Him. That is akin to “eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” When our first parents sinned in turning away from God (inward toward themselves), they realized their nakedness–they understood that God could see through them. So they (we) lost our interior friendship with God. We are left to seek for God, and we usually do so in all the wrong places and hurt ourselves and others along the way.

I could never understand why GOD allows kids to have terminal illnesses or people to be mentally retarded or have a deformity. Life is hard enough being normal let alone adding these difficulties to it.😦

God Willing , the Final Judgment Day will be very easy for mental retarded persons . Sickness of kids …may be it’s a test for parents …a reminder to them that God is watching you all ; don’t forget God , remember Him in a way He should be worshipped etc etc.

  1. We must be careful here. There would be pain and suffering in the world even if people turned from their sinful ways becasue pain and suffering are a consequence of Original Sin. Jesus saves us from the eternal consequence of Sin, but not the temporal effects. Remember Job- upright and God fearing- yet he suffered. The rain falls on the just and the unjust.
  2. I think it the height of arrogance that God’s goodness (or lack thereof) is defined by what God does or does not do for individuals. For example- suppose I am righteous and God Fearing (which I try to be) yet suppose I suffer–who am I to define God’s goodness based on MY indivdual suffering? God’s goodness and love DOES NOT depend on what he does or does not do for ME.
  3. God did not come to take away pain and suffering, he came to transform it. Pain and suffering are the result of evil. As I said God did not save us from the temporal consequences of Sin, RATHER he TRANSFORMED the consequences and MEANING of the temporal effects of Sin. Pain and suffering are the WAY TO LIFE. This is why Jesus says “Take up thy cross and follow after me.” This is why the crucifix is CENTRAL in Catholic churches- it is the means to life- those who follow the WAY will have life. Pain and suffering are the MEANS by which Christ has gained life.

Lucifer fell from heaven to the world. He enjoys that men should cry in pain.

God love us, yes. So He showed men the way to defeat the forces of Satan.

Jesus prayed:

"I pray for them; not for the world do I pray, but for those whom thou has given me, because they are thine; and all things that are mine are thine, and thine are mine…

“Holy Father, keep in thy name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one even as we are…”

Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest…”

Then later He was crowned with thorns, carried the cross ,stabbed on his side, died, then nailed to hang on the cross …

He made no complaint of the pain when He was crowned with thorns; Therefore, God’s love is not always without paid.

Try to approach it from a different direction like C.S. Lewis did. With as much pain and evil as there is in the world, *why isn’t it completely given over to pain and evil? *How is it that there is anything like goodness at all?

I was onceexplained why there is such pain in the world through the following story:

On afternoon, a man was sitting in the Barbershop getting his hair cut and his face shaved. While this was happening, the man and the baber were covering a multitude of subjects in common conversation. After a while, they began to touch on the topic of God.

The barber remarked ‘I personally do not belive that God exists. If God did exist, there would not exist such pain and suffering in the world.’

Choosing not to get involved with the barber’s conversation about the existence of God, the man remained quiet as the barber finished his work. He paid the man and walked outside. Remembering what the barber said, the man found a long-haired, bearded man on the sidewalk and took him by the hand and motioned him into the barbershop he had just left.

Upon entering he exclaimed ‘I do not belive that Barbers exist!’

The barber, suprised and semi-confused replied, ‘Of course barbers exist, here I am!’

The man replied, ‘No. Barbers do not exist! If they did exist, this man would not be long-haired, nor would he have a beard.’

The barber, purturbed remarked to the man, ‘Of course Barbers exist. The problem is that this man has not come to me to get his hair cut nor his beard shaved.’

The man replied, ‘It is the same thing with God. He exists and no one comes to Him. That is why there is so much pain and suffering in the world.’

I read a book called “The Shack.” Although it’s fiction, it is extremely absorbing, opening with the kidnap and murder of a father’s very young daughter. Through the father’s suffering, he doesn’t give up on God but is distant, until he gets a surprise invitation from God to go back to the scene of the crime which is The Shack. There he meets God, yes, but the 3 Persons of the Blessed Trinity. You’ll laugh and be incredulous at the forms they take and how they interact socially with one another. It’s a study in theology. It’s hard to put the book down because there are surprises on almost every page.

A blurb on the back cover reads, "This story reads like a prayer–like the best kind of prayer, filled with sweat and wonder and transparency and surprise.

Recording artist says this about the book: “Reading The Shack during a difficult transition in my life, this story has blown the oor wide open to my soul.”

You’ll better understanding how God’s Mercy deals with evil in the world.

Go to www.theshackbook.com. It’s the N.Y. Times #1 best seller.

Skimming through and jumping to conclusions, I believe I have the answer to the question. I doubt people will like my answer though.

God transends time and space.
Satan was created by God.
Satan and his followers were cast out from heaven.
Satan is out to ruin God’s greatest creations: man with free will.
You see angels choose perfectly.
They had a choice.
They could have chosen to be right with God but they did not.
They knew their fate surely.

Thats a tough one…I recall having many signs in my classroom…some even on the ceiling of the room, for those who daydream!..one used to read’ storms make oaks take deeper roots"…lets take the problem of race…so all belong to the same race…ok…how about height…ok…all become 6 foot at maturity! How about color of hair…ok everyone has dark brown hair!..Eyes…all have blue eyes…etc etc…then as to trouble…no one ever gets sick,no one ever trips and falls,no one ever gets cavaties.etc etc…I dunno, would we be human or just robots? One of the movies my wife and I remember during our dating days was…the invasion of the body snatchers…all became non -feeling robots etc etc…on the way home from the movie I stopped for gas and checked the rear compartment for pods…

I like your answer panoikei!

I like your answer panoikei!
But Panoikei was in error saying the “God created Satan.” I believe that Panoikei meant (from reading the rest of the post) that God created angels with free will and that some chose independence from God. The lead “angel” is named Lucifer, meaning “light,” but this angel led a force that rebelled, so God had to create Hell. These highly intelligent beings are in battle to drag as many humans to Hell as possible. Yes, it’s a spiritual battle, which so many people don’t realize.

He he he! I did not say that panoikei was correct. I just liked the way he answered it.
