If God loves us, why is there so much pain in the world?

He he he! I did not say that panoikei was correct. I just liked the way he answered it.
LOL! But it helps to be correct at the same time. Try this for prose:

OF Mans First Disobedience, and the Fruit
Of that Forbidden Tree, whose mortal tast
Brought Death into the World, and all our woe,
With loss of Eden, till one greater Man
Restore us, and regain the blissful Seat, 5 ]
Sing Heav’nly Muse, that on the secret top
Of Oreb, or of Sinai, didst inspire
That Shepherd, who first taught the chosen Seed,
In the Beginning how the Heav’ns and Earth
Rose out of Chaos: Or if Sion Hill 10 ]
Delight thee more, and Siloa’s Brook that flow’d
Fast by the Oracle of God; I thence
Invoke thy aid to my adventrous Song,
That with no middle flight intends to soar
Above th’ Aonian Mount, while it pursues 15 ]
Things unattempted yet in Prose or Rhime.
And chiefly Thou O Spirit, that dost prefer
Before all Temples th’ upright heart and pure,
Instruct me, for Thou know’st; Thou from the first
Wast present, and with mighty wings outspread 20 ]
Dove-like satst brooding on the vast Abyss
And mad’st it pregnant: What in me is dark
Illumin, what is low raise and support;
That to the highth of this great Argument
I may assert Eternal Providence, 25 ]
And justifie the wayes of God to men.

Paradise Lost by John Milton

He he he! Yes, it helps to be correct. But love does not keep a record of wrongs.

It is written:

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered,it keeps no record of wrongs

Most assuredly.

“Love ye therefore the stranger; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.” (Deut. 10:19)

But Panoikei was in error saying the “God created Satan.” I believe that Panoikei meant (from reading the rest of the post) that God created angels with free will and that some chose independence from God. The lead “angel” is named Lucifer, meaning “light,” but this angel led a force that rebelled, so God had to create Hell. These highly intelligent beings are in battle to drag as many humans to Hell as possible. Yes, it’s a spiritual battle, which so many people don’t realize.
I stand corrected. I meant to say God created Lucifer. I appologize if I led anyone down the dark path. I was just rattling it out too fast again.
It’s strange, peole believe Jesus is the son of God, or that the bread and wine are actually made into Jesus body and blood, but they somehow won’t or can’t believe in angels, hell or anything like that. I know peole that even called into question whether Mary is in Heaven. Strange people. We truly are wounded by original sin.

Peace.

Welcome to the forum 🙂

Life is a test for hereafter . That’s why we have to suffer but must show patience .
Gold is purified by fire. For your idea, I agree with you.

God Willing , the Final Judgment Day will be very easy for mental retarded persons . Sickness of kids …may be it’s a test for parents …a reminder to them that God is watching you all ; don’t forget God , remember Him in a way He should be worshipped etc etc.
Not only the test for the parents, for the whole community where those mentally retarded persons live too. We call it the cross that we must carry. Basically, I agree with you.

Because of a lack of good catechesis, people seem to believe in almost anything. I wouldn’t be surprised if some actually believed in the FSM (Flying Spaghetti Monster atheists are banding about on various forums LOL).🤷

To get back to the subject of this forum, about why there is so much pain in the world, many excellent reasons were already given. I just thought I’d add that all of our suffering can be united with the sufferings of Jesus. So many of the saints found a joy in suffering because God was forming them to be a reflection of His Son:). Besides, through offering up our suffering, we cover many sins, our own and others, and release souls in Purgatory. 🙂

But I hope they believe in the flying friar, St. Joseph of Cupertino.

Because God also gave human beings a free will. God created us in His image and likeness, not as His puppets, with a free will to obey or disobey His commands as our Creator. We know from Genesis, starting with Adam and Eve, many human beings chose/choose to disobey.

God does not tempt human beings or create suffering. Our own ungodly worldly desires and the devil tempts us. Thus suffering is born. We create suffering for ourselves and for each other.

Why does God not intervene directly ignoring human will? It would be a violation of the free will created by God. He lets the wheat grow with the chaff and on harvest day it will all be separated. After death there is judgment; the book, in which everything we have ever thought, said or done is recorded, will be opened.

You might want to join the thread “new member looking for discussion.” Poster Wasmit seems to think that God cannot be omnipotent and omniscient while at the same time respecting our free will. He argues that, if God has those attributes, He is making all of our decisions. Your post may shed some light.

S J Thaikattil,
I tremble at the idea of seeing all that I have done in my life. Assuming I see you or you see my story in the end. I am a deeply scarred person and know I have committed some very offensive sins to God, the Angels and Saints and You my brothers and sister, in my thoughts in my words in what I have done and in what I have failed to do and I for forgiveness. Up front. I plan to be as humble as I possibly can be. Knowing that one day our life will be like a movie run before our eyes I tremble with anxiety knowing the stain of sin on my soul. Please forgive me when I have fallen.

Don’t worry Panoikei! We are covered by the blood of Our Lord, and our sins which are scarlet will be made whiter than snow when we “relieve the oppressed, help the fatherless, plead for the widow.” (Isaiah 1:18) I might add, fight for the lives of the unborn and help their mothers.
