If jesus had cousins, does that mean he still has distant descendants on earth?

Obviously there wouldn’t be many since his cousins (or brothers and sisters for our protestant brethren even though this doesn’t mean they were his blood brothers) James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon, were assumed to be celebate. But could it be possible? Not that they’d have anything special about them since they’d just be men (i’m not some freaky gnostic or dan brown devotee), but could there still be distant relatives of Christ?

i know Justin Martyr mentioned the relatives of Jesus keeping a plow He made
other than that i can find no later mention of His families presence in history.

hope this helps
Shalom
God bless

It is impossible for Him to have descendants. To do that He would have to have had children.

Yes, I heard of one who had the last name of Obama. 😃

His relatives would have descendants, and really we shouldn’t think of that as strange or anything - after all Jesus was fully human as well as fully divine. His birth was miraculous and (sorry, Dan Brown) He didn’t father any children as that was not in God’s plan. But he was part of the Jewish people; the Blessed Mother was descended from Jewish lineages, and though not related by blood, so was St. Joseph.

In other words, the Incarnation is a reality and takes place within the context of the real world. Our Lord didn’t arrive in a spaceship or some other oddball way that would remove Him from humanity in a Gnostic or other heretical sense. Hence the cousins and their descendants, whoever they may be; if their lines have not died out, they walk among us!

The Touma familiy in Palestine are descendants of St. Thomas. Just saying 😉

Touma is Arabic for Thomas 🙂
Some friends made a pilgrimage to Palestine, specifically Bethlehem and Jerusalem, and they discovered that in both cities one of the few centuries-old christian families is the Touma family, descendants of St. Thomas. The family is very close to the Jerusalem Patriarchate.

That’s all I know though. I wish I knew more.

True, then I guess they would be David’s descendants, but you get what I mean though

…it is impossible to know… but it is within the realms of possibilities that Jesus’ distant relatives may be alive today… what is truly interesting is that Jesus Himself spoke of the people with whom He grew up as obstinante non-Believers:
57 And they would not accept him. But Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is despised only in his own country and in his own house,’ 58 and he did not work many miracles there because of their lack of faith. (St. Matthew 13:57-58)
…since they did not Believe, the Holy Spirit would not allow them to know Jesus after the Resurrection… in time, to them, Jesus would be as forgotten as most unimportant people are in any given family…

…so you believe Jesus had siblings… why then did He take the Virgin Mary away from them at his death?

Merry Christmas!

Just checking in. No I don’t believe jesus had siblings, but he did have relatives. Since I’m Catholic I agree with the church on everything, including that Jesus didn’t have what we’d call in the modern day sense, brothers and sisters. I just wondered if his distant relatives ever kept track or if some could be out there. It would be kind of cool knowing this, though it could be dangerous

Just go back a bit further than Jesus’s cousins.

For example, I am an ethnic Jew, since converted to Catholicism. As a genetic descendent of Abraham, I am distantly related to all Jews, including Jesus who is also a descendent of Abraham. Non-Jewish Christians or “Gentiles” are adopted into the family of Abraham. As you said - it is really not a big deal but yeah, its kind of cool to think that Jesus and I are both ethnically Jewish but no glory to me, just dumb luck.

Take it back further, and we ALL have the same mother and father - Adam and Eve.

It must be mentioned that Muslims also consider themselves descendents of Abraham whereas gentiles are not. Yet many Christians and Jews have no problem bashing Muslims.

Jews are legitimate descendants of Abraham.
Some Muslims are illegitimate descendants. Not all Muslims are biologically linked.

Did Eusebius interview some of Jesus’s brothers and sisters ? Its obvious it was his step brothers and sister.

Were they murdered for the faith ?.

Not all Jews need be descendants of Abraham. I’m sure there were many converts over the years, especially in the ancient times.

God Bless

Thanks, and I agree although I doubt there have been many converts to Judaism.

My point is that Muslim descendents of Abraham are all from the illegitmate son Ishmael and not the legitimate son Isaac that God chose.
The Jews were the chosen people and not the Muslims.
