If Jesus told you He was a pencil...

If Jesus came to you and told you that He was a pencil when it (the Pencil) was consecrated by an ordained Pastor…would you believe Him and accept that the Consecrated Pencil is Him?
 
He’s the Son of God. If He says it I believe Him, He can do it.

If He said it as clearly and emphatically as He said that the bread is His body both in John 6 and the Last Supper, and if He let people walk away for thinking Him crazy without correcting them and saying He only symbolically meant He was a pencil, then I’d definitely believe it.

Oh, I get it now. I wasn’t sure what the original post was about - but I guess it’s all about the Eucharist, isn’t it?

Well, if some people are willing to dismiss Our Lady of Fatima as the devil disguised as Mary, then I suppose some people will dismiss Jesus as the devil disguised as a pencil-eucharist-wannabe. (I don’t know how to word to that properly.)

I think some people would demand to stick their fingers in His wounds before they believe.

I believe anything Jesus says. If He were to say He is a pencil, then I would take His infinite Word for it. It would have to be verified through a pretty reliable source that He had said it if He didn’t say it directly to me in an unequivocal theophany.

Once it was proved to me that He had said it I would believe it.

Actually, I’m on my way to The Eucharist.

I’m just trying to see how many non-Catholic Christians are ready to believe that Jesus could literally be a pencil, but not the consecrated bread of the Passover Feast.

I would have to ask the Church. There is nothing in the Bible or in the Tradition of the Magisterium that says “Jesus is a pencil”, so I would need to find out if the revelation I had was from God or from Satan. The Church could help me to know.

The antecedent can be any statement for the OP to drive home his point. That’s the beauty of a hypothetical. Please think.

Well maybe I should’ve asked the question differently…let’s affirm right here and right now that it was Jesus that undoubtedly told you He was a pencil.

If Jesus came and spoke to me now, and said something that contradicts sacred Scripture and the magesterial teaching of the Church he founded, I would head for a shrink because I know I could not possibly be seeing and hearing Jesus Christ. If a shrink didn’t cure me I would look for an excorcist. It is not possible for Jesus to appear to someone today and make a claim or statement that contradicts either, because public revelation ceased with the death of the last apostle…

Are you saying that Jesus telling you He’s a pencil is contrary to Church teaching?

Is there a teaching on Jesus “not” being a pencil that I’m unaware of?

Also, isn’t Jesus the ultimate public revealer?

And finally, if Jesus told you that He was a pencil, would you believe Him?

But in that case it wouldn’t ACTUALLY be Jesus saying it, it would be your own delusion or possibly an evil spirit masquerading as Him.

Secondly, while it’s right to be suspicious of any purported new revelation, the mere statement that Jesus is a pencil would not, without the addendum of requiring priests to consecrate one, necesarily be public revelation. It’d be more along the lines of His ‘I am the Divine Mercy’ to St Faustina, or ‘I am the Immaculate Conception’ of Mary to St Bernadette.
 
If Jesus could become something as lowly as a man, I see no reason why he can’t be a pencil, if he wants to!😛

Yeah (thanks Lily)…I asked a simple question.

If Jesus came (that alone clears away all wonderment about “if” it’s the real Jesus because I stated that it was Jesus) and told you He was a pencil, would you believe it.

You know something?

All the questioning reminds me of the Pharisees when they refused to accept Jesus was The Messiah. In my hypothetical, I laid down the undeniable fact that Jesus was telling you He was a pencil.

How many responses came back a resounding “yes” or “no”?

I’d believe Him. If He told me He was a cell phone, I’d believe Him. If He told me He was a doorknob, I’d believe Him. I’d believe whatever He told me.

I would place His words over any Church’s teachings because it being His Church, He could change any meaning and teaching at the drop of a dime.
