Hi, Marty!!..

Edited to say, I can’t speak for the church.

I would ignore him. I would not discuss anything with him. The Church would fight him as they did and should.

Oh my. Hubby and me joking around sometimes that if Luther reached heaven, there would be a crowd of annoyed catholic and orthodox saints awaiting him and say “dude, we will now talk about this piece of paper” 🤣
He was even for his time period very misogyne and antisemite, I wouldn´t like to meet him, really.

I think Luther would be really surprised to see his spiritual descendants in Lutheranism having embraced gay marriage and LGBTQ ministers.

yours, possibly his as well if you can make a confident reply ( don’t have to)

It seems to me, nothing would change. Unless someone knows differently, Luther in his day, wasn’t sorry for what he did . He was given plenty of opportunity to change , but he didn’t.

I always thought that could have been a good saint if he was not so extreme in his views. There were many reformer saints like Saint Theresa of Avila or Saint Ignatius.

Two of my favorite saints. 😃

I would like to see pope Francis talk to him. maybe it might be good for really understanding what is salvation really

Let’s be objective as well, though. The Catholic Church was misusing its power at the time (and has done so many, many times over history and even with the abuse scandals). Although I don’t agree with everything Luther came up with, he was right to stand up to the church. It turned the tides big time and it’s quite possible that the reformation may have actually helped Catholicism in the long run. Sometimes we need to rebel, we need to speak up…

Fortunately I can imagine Pope Francis sitting down with him and actually listen and try to understand. And the sincerity of the Pope could probably make Luther sit and listen and try to understand. Actually I think it will go down well today.

Well I agree, yet I predict you will get some “protesting” to your post 🙂

If people knew who he was, that would be one thing. If he just showed up in 21st c. Germany and no one knew his true identity, I think he would likely be found way too traditional for today’s German clergy.

I. Totally agree with his angst and anger over selling indulgences.

Have you read the posts by one of our CAF Priests about the 500 yr Anniversary. Do a search
