Are we still able to communicate with God? (Like pray the rosary, simple prayers, liturgy of the hours, etc)

Well one should be able to communicate with, how else would one be able to confess thier sin.
That said however saying these prayers (save the sorrowful mysteries) would be unable to convey grace to the one praying. Also how could these prayers be pleasing to God if they stained with sin?

I have read that the increasing weight of mortal sins begins a process of darkening our thoughts to the fact that we are actually even committing sins, much less mortal ones. The longer we go without confessing, the more likely we are not to consider it because our judgement has been clouded and burdened by the numerous mortal sins.
It is truly the example of the toad that is put in a pot of cold water, and then the pot is put under a very low flame of a bunson burner. At which temperature will the toad leap out of the water. The toad never leaps out, but is boiled alive, because with each minute change in the gradation of the water temperature, the toad adjusts to it, and it “feels normal”. satan does the same to us, as with each replication of a habitual mortal sin, it “feels normal”. And with each time, new and different mortal sins become a “lifestyle” instead of a life of sin.

As soon as one grasps the seriousness of their actions, they must pursue confession at the very first opportunity, otherwise satan will begin the process of moving us to “feel normal” within the state of mortal sin.

Many of us who left the Church and returned after many years did so largely through intense prayer, the rosary in my case. I know grace can not be conveyed to a person in mortal sin but something is happening or I would not have achieved success. Spiritual strength is being attained through prayer, call it grace or call it whatever, it’s there.

I try to go to confession twice a week, because I have an issue with pornography and masterbation, but I’ve gotten a lot better. Confession is on wednesday and saturdays, so if I were to commit those acts lets say on a Sunday, then I would have to wait till Wednesday for confession, or do I make an appointment? Any books I can read, for free? No credit card.

A person in mortal sin should not hesitate to pray. They can pray for the grace of repentance, they can meditate on the Passion of Jesus, they can pray the Rosary and Our Lady will intercede for them for the graces they need.

The Holy Spirit waking the dead spirit up to sincre repentance, perhaps.

All the more we need to pray … pray, pray and pray, until the next opportunity for confession. One of the most unique aspect of Christianity is that God gravitates towards sinners. Jesus comes for the sick.

Always pray and never stop. Pray for others who might be in the same situation as yourself. No prayer goes unanswered and no matter how stained in sin you might be a prayer never reaches God in dirty or in a malformed way. There are many who were sinners and prayed that are now saints. Ask your deceased loved ones to pray for you, ask the saints in heaven to pray for you that you obtain the strength you need to go to confession.

God still loves you and won’t let your prayers be wasted. Go to confession as soon as you can and if you can’t get there right way, take it upon yourself to do a penance and ask God to forgive you. Be like the prodigal son who came to his senses and returned to his father.

Keep on praying. God is merciful and will not abandon you. Confession will help you to avoid these sins and yes you will gradually improve. Do not give up or get discouraged even if seems like it’s no use. Try to keep yourself occupied and try not to be alone for a long period of time because that it increases the temptation. Also, go to the daily mass as much as you can (even once a week). It will help you to stay focused on God’s goodness and it well help suppress any evil desires that may come up.

I used to struggle with this greatly too and even now (through rarely) I succumb to the temptation. Thanks to God, the sacrament of Confession and the guidance and support of my priest/confessor I have improved in handling these sins.

Keep trying, your efforts will not be in vain.
