I think that Valke2 meant that the Christian Faith in Jesus is not idolatory but for a Jew to become Christian is idolatory because God to Jew is not Jesus obviously.Valke2?
Yes. But also for a Jew to pray to any image of God would be idolatry. But we don’t consider Christians who pray before their images of God to be commiting idolatry. If a Jew were to pray before an image that was said to be God, it would be idolatry, even though it involved an image of the One God. But Jews acknowledge that when Christians do this, before the crucifix or whatever, they are not engaging in idolatry.

ANd when I say Jews acknowledge that, I say it with a big caveat. There are plenty of Jews that would differ with this opinion, either out of a real difference of belief or out of anger toward Christians.

ok 🙂

this is our view:

the Baltimore Catechism, a Catholic religious textbook used for decades to educate Catholic children in the Faith, says, “We do not pray to the crucifix or to the images of Christ and of the saints, but to the persons of whom they remind us” (I, q. 96). This is the official teaching of the Church; we do not worship statues, we use them to remind us of our beloved family in heaven, even as you might look at a photo of a relative when he or she is far away. We are familiar with that Commandment and would never pray to a plaster statue, since the statue itself can do nothing.

i dont need to attack your arguments angelos , they are attacking themselves!!!

Where in the above verse did God accuse Jews of idol worship?

God accused jews and Christians in this first not of Idol worship but for a non correct understanding of teh concept of Chosenness.

AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN all i see you do angelos is take YOUR OWN interpretation of the verse and condemn it !!! That doesnt relate to Islam in anything.

Better luck next time

meedo
Hi Meedo,

First, I do not need luck to condemn a verse in the Quran! I only need my faith and a simple linguistic analysis to show how some of the Muslims (like you :D) start slandering a person (like me :D) and telling lies about him as soon as he helps others see what you guy tries to conceal in the Quran. I shall pray for you.

Second, you do not have to agree with my interpretation! But I assure you that the same rule will be applied to you: I do not have to agree with YOUR interpretation. More, I like my interpretation better because it is based on the textual analysis of the Quran. YOUR interpretation, however, denies certain facts and clings to the purely personal comments of Islamic scholars that are good at creating alternative readings through plays on words to cover up the weak points in the Islamic scripture. Try something better please!

Finally, you either fail to read and comprehend my post or deliberately close your eyes to my point. You claim that everyone making partners to Allah is an idolater. (This is what I also believe). However, you somehow forget that the following verse is in the Quran (I hope this is the last time I am quoting it to demonstrate how Mohammed regarded all the Jews he talked to as idolaters):

Taubah 9:31 They have taken their rabbis and their monks as Gods besides Allah and (also) Messiah the son of Maryam; and they were not commanded except to worship only One God - Allah; none is worthy of worship except Him; Purity is to Him from all that they ascribe as partners (to Him).

There is no conditional clause in this verse! This proves that Mohammed blamed Jews and Christians alike for making partners to Allah: worshipping their religious leaders as gods besides Allah: the meaning of idolatry in Islam! 😛

I still do not want you to hate me because I don’t believe in Islam or because I am a convert to Christianity. As a creature of my God and Lord, you are precious to me.

Salaam,

Angelos

I recently read a book that I would recommend to all Catholics who desire a deeper understanding of Islam. The book is called The Life and Religion of Mohammed by Rev. J.L. Menezes.
It was originally published in 1912 so obviously many things in the middle east have changed since the auther wrote the book. However, the history of the religion is explained from the time shortly after the death of Christ up to the early twentith century with chapters dealing in detail with the Koran and the different sects of Islam.

Personally I do not believe that Christians and Muslims share the same God. The current church teaching on this matter is that basically the muslims worship the “Creator” who is all powerful. I feel that this is to simplistic a view of the Christian God. To say that we worship the same God simply because we believe in “one God who is the author of creation” is to not recognize the true nature of the Christian God. Forget the fact that we Christians worship the Triun God, which is one distinct difference of vital importance, but the nature of God in Islam is very different from that of the Christian God. For example, certain sects in Islam believe that God is the author of both good and evil. This is obviously at odds with the Christian belief. Also, in Arabia, before the time of Mohammed, there existed basically the religions of the Jews, the early Christians, and the pagan or polytheists, who worshiped several gods. The most important of these gods was the moon god. During the many archialogical digs in the early 1900s were unearthed many statues devoted to the moon god. On these statues was the ever present symbol of the cresant moon. When Mohammed began the construction of Islam he gathered together the different religions of the region taking bits from each to create a new form of worship which he hoped would unite the land of Arabia. One could argue, very well in fact, that he hoped to use this for his own purpose of becoming god like himself.

One could say that Christianity is the completion of the Jewish faith because Jesus became the Messiah. We share the old testiment faith with the Jews, but they are still awaiting the Messiah’s return. How this affects the reconciliation with the Christian belief in the Triun God I don’t know. I do know that Jews and Christians share a history of faith before the birth of Jesus.
However, because I believe that Allah is a compilation by Mohammed of the existing faiths in the region during his time, including the moon god, I cannot believe that Christians and Muslims worship the same God.

Salaam all;
Below are some of the signs of the God Muslims believe in and worship.

“It is He Who brings out the living from the dead, and brings out the dead from the living, and Who gives life to the earth after it is dead: and thus shall ye be brought out (from the dead).” [030.019]

“Among His Signs in this, that He created you from dust; and then,- behold, ye are men scattered (far and wide)!” [030.020]

“And among His Signs is this that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect.” [030.021]

“And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the variations in your languages and your colors: verily in that are Signs for those who know.” 030.022

“And among His Signs is the sleep that ye take by night and by day and the quest that ye (make for livelihood) out of His Bounty: verily in that are signs for those who hearken.” [030.023]

“And among His Signs, He shows you the lightning, by way both of fear and of hope, and He sends down rain from the sky and with it gives life to the earth after it is dead: verily in that are Signs for those who are wise.” [030.024]

“And among His Signs is this that heaven and earth stand by His Command: then when He calls you, by a single call, from the earth, behold, ye (straightway) come forth.” [030.025]

“To Him belongs every being that is in the heavens and on earth: all are devoutly obedient to Him.” [030.026]

“It is He Who begins (the process of) creation; then repeats it; and for Him it is most easy. To Him belongs the loftiest similitude (we can think of) in the heavens and the earth: for He is Exalted in Might, full of wisdom.” [030.027]

Compare and see. Your God has better signs? Good for you, be happy and may the peace of Him Who created and sustains all of us be with the ones who seek His ways and ponder on His Signs. Amen.

Salaam.
Joseph.

Better signs Joseph? God is the creator of everything no one doubts it. It is the nature of God we differ about.

SpaceGirl;1618614:
fine…grab a Bible and a Quran. Both books are claimed to be from God yet one says Jesus is the Son of God, and the second denies it. What do you make of this as a Christian?
I, as a Catholic Christian, would say that God had nothing to do with the writing of the Quran. It was dictated by Mohammed.

Moslems may be trying to worship the same God we do, but are doing it in a faulty way, b/c their worship is based on a false prophet.

Muslims Never worshiped , Nor worship and never will worship a moon God.

This is a myth creating by christian missionaries . There was an idol called ‘‘allaT’’ This was an idol in pagan arabia and it was destroyed when Islam came into Mecca.

Muslims worship AllaH. Which is the creator of everything including the moon.

The Moon God myth is old and used . Doesnt work any more.

Really? I’ve heard a lot of people accuse muslims of worshipping a moon God. This is the first time I heard an explanation for it. Thanks.

Moon god theory is not a massionaries’ invention…google moon god and you’ll find people took this theory from encyclopedias and other books.

You forgot to mention that Allah created the stars as missiles to throw at the jinns! 😃

I knew you would come up with something. lol.
No, I did not forget, thanks for reminding me.
The world of the jinns is unseen word to us, you can’t be affirmative about it, but you can mock us if it allows you to vent and feel good.

we can put spirits or bad angels or demons instead of Jinn…it is a strange idea that stars are missiles to chase anything, that’s the point, i think.

By the way Vickie thank you for remainding me about stars.
Look at this one:" When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was".[MT 2:9]
“They” are the wise men which came from the East and you know who the child is.

Why do you accuse me of mockery when I point out something that is in the book that you consider to be the literal word of God? Muslims are always saying that our Bible is “corrupted” and so on but all it takes is one mistake in the Quran to demolish the idea that it’s the word of God! Can you really imagine God making such a silly statement? Those are the words of a 7th century man, not God!

Did I say that.

I think the verse is very explicit, I don’t need to comment it.
