If starting today, all one billion Catholics actually became “practicing” Catholics, how would the World change?

Who’s knocking Catholics?? Apparently you misunderstood my comment. I never mentioned that ALL Catholics were NOT living their faith. I know there are many, many Catholics who do practice their faith in accordance with Church teaching. For one, check my signature, you’ll notice how highly I regard at least one of the groups you mentioned (Knights of Columbus).

Sadly, not ALL Catholics do live their faith. The point I was trying to make is that the World would hate the Catholic Church all the more if ALL 1,000,000,000 (looks more impressive when you actually use the number) of us were united in faith. And that’s not a bad thing. Remember what Jesus said, “If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first.”
You said sadly, not all Catholics live their faith, and you went on to say other things. You are a Catholic. I would never say anything like that no matter how innocent you meant to be. Stand by your own.
More than 1 in every 6 people on the planet is Roman Catholic.

So no one can point out that there a people who claim to be Catholic, yet don’t follow the magisterium? I thought that was the point of this thread.

I’m just saying, when you say these things, Protestants think they have you on something…even tho there are 1.9 billion Catholics, personally, I myself would never say anything discouraging about my faith.
Why don’t you research it and let me know. I would like to know your sources of information.

Also, this is a POSITIVE forum for non-Catholics…hello?🤷

Read the title of the thread. It implies that not all catholics practice their faith. I was just commenting. I never said anything discouraging the Catholic faith.

Please point out to me exactly what I posted that so offended you.

Not to pick on just you Brian, but I fail to see how a world which is largely non-Catholic would change simply because “professed” Catholics became actual “practicing” Catholics.
Roughly 1 in 7 people on the planet is listed on a parish roll as being Catholic.

Some of those individuals are avowed militant hard atheists. Some of those individuals won’t let a day pass without attending Mass, and doing 15 rounds on the Rosary. And every theological practice and belief between the two is observed.

If the only change that was made was that the 1 in 7 attend Mass once a week, there would be a noticeable change in the entertainment industry.

If the only change that was made was that the 1 in 7 do one round of the Rosary every day, there would be a measurable change in the health of the general population.

If that one in seven attended mass, and applied what they heard, there would be an unprecedented global socio-economic revolution.

Three issues with the research I’ve read that comes to those conclusions:
  • The assumption that the local can be extrapolated to the global;
  • The assumption that the specific orientation of the adherents is irrelevant. What counts is the observable effects;
  • The assumption that there will not be a united effort to oppose/displace/repress the group;
That third issue is the one that is of the most concern. Less than 2,000 people decided in 1998 who should take the oath for office of the president of the usa in January 2001. That same concentration of force can be seen in other avenues. I’m not sure that Radzinger is a Clausewitz.

I am not necessarily disagreeing here. And I’m not saying these things would be inconsequential or pointless. I just think there’s more to it. And it doesn’t negate the contention that the Church would also see a greater persecution from the world at large.

On another note, the election to which you are referring was in 2000, not 1998. And millions voted. It may have come down to a difference of 2000 in one state, but that’s not the same as saying 2000 decided the election.

In fact, about the only thing I would say for certainty is that the five Catholic justices sitting on the Supreme Court would waste little time in overturning Roe VS. Wade. Now that would be something.

OK, this is just getting silly. If I offended you, I apologize.

But I stand by what I posted.
You offend all Catholics, not just me. You don’t have to apologize to me for anything. It’s not that I am offended, it’s that it seems that you need to brush up on Catholicism and the Catholic church in numbers. Seems you go against your own faith.

My turn to use an emoticon – :confused:

I think you need to brush up on what a practicing Catholic means.

I am a practicing Catholic, not perfect, but a practicing Catholic. And yourself???
I just don’t get your hostility. And it’s really starting to annoy.

The title of this thread is: If starting today, all one billion Catholics actually became “practicing” Catholics, how would the World change?

Does this not imply that there are people who call themselves Catholic who don’t practice their faith? Yes it does. To me it means those who have no problem with abortion, who do not accept the real presence, hate the Pope and can’t wait til he dies so a new one can institute “real” reforms (I know Catholics that think this way). There are many examples of this especially here in California. These are the people this thread is about. These are the people I am referring to. How is talking about them returning to a faithful practice of Catholicism offensive to all Catholics??

How dare you say you know Catholics who want the pope to die. You are referring to non-Catholics that you think are Catholics, and even then I wouldn’t believe you…smarten up. There is not ONE Catholic I know that doesn’t believe in the Real Presence. It’s people like you with these comments that make Catholics look bad…

I think you are really misunderstanding the point of this thread. It has to do with Catholics who SAY their Catholic, but don’t practice. It seems that everyone else here gets this but you.

This will be my last post on this thread. Apparently you refuse to accept anything I post. Instead you have done nothing but attack me from the start. If you ask me, it’s your self-righteous attitude that gives Catholics a bad name. After all, I apologized for offending you, and don’t claim you weren’t offended, instead of accepting and allowing me to move on, you threw it in my face.

As to the question originally posted.

The world would be different if we all decided together to go to confession as often as needed in order to confess our sins so that we could receive the Love of Christ in Eucharist fully. Then with all the extra new Catholics included we would change the world for the better. As it is now we do ok. We could all do better.

Just do get things *really *going…

**I consider myself a "practicing Catholic." 🙂

*1. I attend mass every Sunday
  1. I pray with my family before dinner
  2. I celebrate Christmas, Easter, you name it
  3. I’m active with my parish
  4. I don’t masturbate or do any of those other dirty little things…*
but wait, didn’t I forget something? :hmmm:

:hmmm:

That’s right! :newidea:

I’m agnostic! :doh2:

But yes…I *do *agree with the billion posts before me…

The world *would *be better if all Catholics were like me!!! :rotfl:

Yes I would agree Agnostic, as long as we keep trying to do Gods will, mainly for others. For the love of others. Mother Teresa said it’s not about being successful, its about being faithful to God.

Good to have you here.
God Bless
