If starting today, all one billion Catholics actually became “practicing” Catholics, how would the World change?

Yes I would agree Agnostic, as long as we keep trying to do Gods will, mainly for others. For the love of others. Mother Teresa said it’s not about being successful, its about being faithful to God.

Good to have you here.
God Bless
:blushing:

I would guess that Catholics in this country and others would then vote according to their Catholic conscience. This one change would be the engine that would quickly put an end to abortion.
One can only hope, abortion is one of the greatest sins.

So no one can point out that there a people who claim to be Catholic, yet don’t follow the magisterium? I thought that was the point of this thread.
Hello MHalsey, just an observation here,

I don’t know if I would have worded it that way, oh, that’s right, that’s why I didn’t word it that way, interesting spin though. (not in a negative way, just your take on things)👍

There are a lot of Catholics out there who are good Catholics and don’t know or need to know what the “magisterium” is or does, or even what it means, athough I know many Catholics do.:highprayer:

One does not need to be “smart”, use big words, or know everything there is to know about the Catholic Faith to follow Christ and be a good “practicing” Catholic. 😉

If we did, I’d be in big trouble; we would all be in big trouble. There isn’t enough time in our lifetimes to learn everything there is to learn about Catholicism, it is a very “rich” religious faith, rich in history, art, famous written works, Saints lives, martyres etc…:bounce:

Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean that I am going to stop trying to learn and experience as much as I can. I love the richness of my Roman Catholic Faith. 👍

Take care

Thank you Jimmy as that line from him was meant toward me.

MHalsey;:
And it doesn’t negate the contention that the Church would also see a greater persecution from the world at large.
If Radzinger is a Clausewitz, then the prosecution wouldn’t exist.
On another note, the election to which you are referring was in 2000, not 1998.
I wasn’t referring to the election. That was utterly irrelevant. (The only function voting serves, is to create the illusion that people have a say in what goes on.) What I was referring to was a decision made in the summer of 1998 as to who would take office in 2001.
As a side point, who else remembers when restaurants would only serve fish on Fridays? Who remember why that practice ceased?

I just wish all the Catholics in Massachusetts would live their religion. Maybe they’d get rid of gay marriage and abortion in that state.
Would the heck does that mean?? Stupid statement.

According to the Association of Religion Data Archives, around half of the people in Massachusetts are Catholic. If they would support efforts to overturn abortion and gay marriage, they could show us a great example of Catholic influence. Instead, the state is one of the most liberal in the nation. Go figure.

Please…and so aren’t the other states in this nation…look at Louisiana, a cess pool of sin and then came Katrina…perhaps we’ll get one here in Mass…huh?

I think that’s the very point of the thread Righteousone…

“What would happen if all Catholics actually became practicing Catholics.”

The comments on the hurricanes are off topic.

They are off topic but just pointing out other states as well as my own. He says Mass is the ONLY state in sin.

Actually, Louisiana is far less Catholic than Massachusetts:

thearda.com/mapsReports/reports/state/22_2000.asp

I’m not claiming a hurricane is hitting anywhere because Catholics are unrighteous. But Massachusetts is probably the most Catholic state in the country. It is overwhelmingly pro-choice and the only state in the nation which allows gay marriage. What if they Catholics in Massachusetts actually followed what the Pope says? The most Catholic state in our nation is leading the way in undermining traditional values. That is a scandal.

Actually, Rhode Island is probably the most Catholic state:

It’s not far behind Massachusetts in undermining traditional values. I don’t know what the Catholics in New England, Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles are thinking about.

Yes I agree, it is terrible where I live and even more terrible where everyone else lives…

At least you’ve figured it out. Even in good old St. Joseph County, Indiana here in Notre Dame country the Catholics seem to be pro-choice. If it weren’t for the Evangelicals in our area I’m not sure the pro-life politicians could get elected.

That is so untrue…you should be saying if it weren’t for the Evangelicals, people would truly know the real faith of the Catholic church.😉

But why do we have to depend on the Evangelicals to promote pro-life and traditional marriage when they don’t have the fullness of the faith? I’m not saying there aren’t plenty of Catholics who do support these things, but the ones who do seem to be a minority within the Catholic Church. I’m happy the Evangelicals are on the same side as the Pope on these moral issues, but wouldn’t it be wonderful if all the Catholics were on the same side as well? Think of what Philadelphia, Chicago, New York City and Boston would be like if more Catholics in these places stood up for the faith.

Bart, the Evangelicals are the ones who think the pope is the anti-christ…hello

Righteousone…

Why would you accuse all Evangelicals of believing the pope to be the anti-Christ? That’s certainly not what Billy Graham believes. I know several Evangelicals who do not believe that.

Also, why do you insist that all people who were baptized Catholic now practice their faith when that is simply not true. I know many people who were baptized in the Church who do not attend Mass or believe in the teachings of the Church on various issues.

But Catholics should not feel threatened by this. All religions have members “in name only.” The fact that wheat and chaff co-exist within the visible bounds of the Church does not invalidate the teachings of Christ, which have been faithfully passed on to us in the Church. Catholicism will always remain true, even if a certain percentage of people who claim to be members do not practice their faith or obey the precepts of the Church. Just as there was a traitor (Judas) among Christ’s own Apostles, so there are folks who claim to be part of the Church who do not believe or practice what she teaches.

It would be nice if all Catholics who have fallen away or lapsed would return to the faith.

I hope we all agree that all Catholics should practice their faith, seeking holiness, obeying the Church, and working for justice.

BTW: Why is your online name righteousone? Is that a joke or do you believe that you are righteous?

Sometimes people pose as Catholics on sites like this and then make outrageous claims to make the Church look bad. I hope you are not one of them.

When you assert, for instance, that Catholics must believe in private revelations like the incorruptibles, you are simply mistaken (see the following quote from the Catechism, paragraph 67).

"Throughout the ages, there have been so-called ‘private’ revelations, some of which have been recognized by the authority of the Church. They do not belong, however, to the deposit of faith. It is not their role to improve or complete Christ’s definitive Revelation, but to help live more fully by it in a certain period of history. Guided by the Magisterium of the Church, the sensus fidelium knows how to discern and welcome in these revelations whatever constitutes an authentic call of Christ or his saints to the Church.

“Christian faith cannot accept ‘revelations’ that claim to surpass or correct the Revelation of which Christ is the fulfillment, as is the case in certain non-Christian religions and also in certain recent sects which base themselves on such ‘revelations’.”
