If starting today, all one billion Catholics actually became “practicing” Catholics, how would the World change?

If you do not believe in these, do you also not believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist?
Yes, I believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. That is **not **private revelation. That is something all Catholics **must **believe in order to be Catholic.

Work, work, work, work, work, work, work… oh well, someone’s gotta do it 🙂 🙂

(anyone remember the old saying in the sixties that “the population bomb wouldn’t be such a problem if lighting the fuse wasn’t so much fun”…??? 🙂 )

As to the OP

Maybe Catholic colleges and universities would finally act like it…???

Oh and the public and private revelation/devotion thing - you guys are derailing the post…🙂

Righteousone,
Do you have an answer to my previous post?

Regarding Righteousone’s response to the original post of this thread, it is naive to say that all people baptized as Catholics are “practicing” Catholics. Several of my good friends and extended family members are baptized Catholics but do not practice their faith by going to Church every week (some go a few times a year, etc.). This is unfortunate, but true. Just as there are rarely-practicing Catholics, there are rarely-practicing Jews, Muslims, Protestants and Orthodox Christians. The existence of these nominal believers has no bearing on the trustworthiness of a given religion; it only means that some people are more interested in/faithful to the church in which they were raised than others. Catholic Christianity is true because it has been revealed to us by God through Jesus Christ who promised to build His Church on His Apostles and guide her with the Holy Spirit. No matter how many members the Church has, or how many people fall away, the Church will remain the mystical Body of Christ and His spotless bride forever.
So what is it exactly that you as a Catholic are trying to prove here?? That there are bad Catholics out there? You only talk about how Catholics aren’t being Catholic. Worry about yourself.

This is true because we count heads not envelopes. My husband ushers and he does the counting of heads at the Mass we attend and the ushers at the other masses count at those. it would be silly to go by envelopes.
No, you are absolutely, dead wrong here. If ushers were given a job of head taking, the Mass would be postponed forever…you can’t possibly have worked in a parish office, because what you say is not true. The envelopes are the main source of knowing who is there and who isn’t. Stop giving people here the wrong impression. I use to count these envelopes, and also when we called the people who supposedly didn’t show up, they were there, but just didn’t use the envelopes. And for you to say it is silly to go by envelopes, proves even further you know not what you say.

Different parishes must do it differently. We have umpteen ushers each week who count heads. I know because I have seen them doing it.
Our parish is fairly high maintenance for the Bible Belt. It takes about 41,000.00 weekly. Lots of envelopes to count. But ushers don’t count them. Our finance person handles it.

Well, it is from your Catholic faith Halsey, that perhaps you should know this particular creed. Common sense if you are a Catholic. And you can go and believe anything you want. My beliefs lie with Jesus Christ, the Early church Fathers and St. Paul on this one…why question it? (You sound just like a Protestant).
I questioned it because I don’t trust you.
As a Catholic, you should know this information.
It was called the Quicumque Vult.
The Creed is "an official statement of Christian doctrine principally in regard to the Holy Trinity and the Incarnation, composed during the life of St. Anthanaius, 373.
It has a place in the Latin Liturgy, being said at Prime on the feast of the Holy Trinity.
Before the office reforms that came into force in 1956, it was said more frequently.
As someone who was born in the late 60’s, I had never heard of it. After finding it in the Catholic Encyclopedia, I have no problem with it. Can I be Catholic now, Rightousone. 😃

One point I would make though, after reading it, everything in it is elucidated in the Catechism, so of course by accepting everything in the Catechism, I accepted this creed before I even read or knew about it. Which also goes for any Catholic who faithfully follows all the teachings of the Church who has not heard of the creed of St. Athanasius. I am sure there are many.

So, the question is, what make you a faithful Catholic? Knowledge of a certain creed? Or believing what it says even though you never heard of it?

I’ll be the first to admit I am not perfect Halsey, if I have caused you to think this of me then I apologize. I too never heard of the Creed until a couple years ago and I too were surprised at the words contained. Although I say surprised b/c it tells you that you are saved through the Catholic faith only, and I truly believe this, but I am not God.
I believe this Creed to be true, being composed around the year 393. If I get my head bit off from some non-Catholic who disagrees (you know that always happens), well then so be it.
But I stand steadfast in my Catholic faith until I die. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in spite of corruption, mistakes or whatever that have happened over the years. That is bound to happen seeing that man is not perfect. But it is the guidance of the Holy Spirit that held our church together until this day…

Apology accepted. Let’s move on.

Unless the ushers are counting in toki pona, or a similar language that is deficient in numbers, it wouldn’t take more than five minutes to get a count of the number of people in attendance.
Standard toki pona has the numbers “wan”, “tu”, and “muti”, which correspond to 1, 2, and many.

Non-Standard toki pona has the numbers “ala”, “wan”, “tu”, “luka”, and “wan”, for 0, 1, 2, 5, and “many”, respectively.

Informal toki pona allows numbers to be compounded. for example, “wan tu” is 3. etc.

:hug3:And soon, in about nine months, there would be at least 4 billion Catholics total with at least 1 billion more crying baby Catholics…:crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

Haha!!!😃

We could move millions more hearts and minds to the truth of the Holy Catholic Church. If we only behaved like we meant what we believe. Present company (excluding myself. Mea Culpa) obviously already do this. :o

I think if more people “practiced” what our Lord taught…
He would be smiling on us!

Because He said:

"You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.

You keep talking about how Catholic you are, but remember Catholic Christians are supposed to be humble and accept instruction. You do not seem able to admit that you could be wrong about anything, even when it is clearly proven.
I realize that you are resonding to one poster here but this applies to about 98% of the folks on this forum.

Agnostic,
If all people lived like you that might help make the world a better place, but you could say that about many people. Everyone acting the same and thinking the same might bring peace and stability to the world, but what about the human heart?

Ultimately, one who is uncertain about God’s existence will not have a better life either here or in heaven. Knowing and loving Christ in this life gives a person hope and helps a person to love others more perfectly. Additionally, it is difficult to have a relationship with God if one is not sure whether or not He is real. If heaven is all about continuing and deepening one’s relationship with God, then where does that leave agnostics?

In other words, the world might be great externally (for a while) if everyone lived like you, but people would not be better off spiritually. Jesus’ kingdom is not of this world. It’s not enough to “just be a good person” toward others. One must love God, our loving Creator and Savior, in order to find fulfillment in this life and the next. Jesus tells us we must do both, love God and our neighbor. Furthermore, if everyone in the world became like you and lost their faith (and only practiced external acts) those external acts would soon be in danger of disappearing because there would be no underlying philosophical basis for them. The only reason you know that you are being a good person is because of Judeo-Christian ethics embedded in your mind, whether you know it or not. You are drawn to being good because good Christians first showed the world the value of doing good simply for the sake of God and others (and not for an earthy reward).

BTW: I’m not sure whether or not you are receiving Eucharist at Mass (you said you go every week). If not, good for you. If you are receiving communion, you should stop if you do not believe in God or believe that Christ is really present under the form of bread and wine. Otherwise, you are endangering your own soul (1 Cor 11) and profaning our Sacrament. And if you don’t care about your own soul, please respect our beliefs about the sacredness of the Eucharist.
Uh, no. First, everyone thinking the same would not equal peace, especially if they all believed they should be in charge - they’d just fight all the time. If they all felt war was the answer, we’d have perpetual war. Kind of like how it is when no one agrees, isn’t it? As for the oft touted idea that there are no ethics without a Judeo Christian basis, this is just nonsense. You seem to be suggestintg that there are no good people, have been no good people, except those who got their philosophy from J/C theory. If this is incorrect, please correct. There are and have been many civilzations and I dare say that some of them actually had decent, ethical, “good” people who loved each other, took care of each other, tried to live a good live, and in most cases belived in some god and afterlife who had no knowledge whatsoever of J/C ideals. To suggest then, that anyone living today who has been exposed to J/C ideals is somehow relying on those ideals, even if only at a subconscience level, as a “support” for their ethics and morality seems to be a real reach.

I’d also like to mention that the vast majority of posts (those that were more than two Catholics arguing with each other) mentioned issues relating to sex. The was practically no (I say “practically” because I might have missed a comment or two) mention of the alieviation of suffering, aid to the needy, increase in peacemakers. This seems to be endemic to this forum. Sex, as they say, sells. Even here. How ironic.
