Challenged, maybe; changed, no. Dogma cannot be changed. The Synod will turn out to be no big deal. Divorced and remarried Catholics, outside of the Church without an annulment, will still not be able to receive communion, and the Church will never change her stand on abortion.

The Church can not change its views on abortion, not only because it is dogma, but because of the political fall-out. Whole parishes would leave and join schismatic groups, priests would resign by the thousand and the Church would loose all credibility on moral teaching.
As for myself, if the Church ever ceased to be pro-life, I would know it was not being guided by the Holy Spirit after all.

To be honest i can’t see the church changing its teachings on these 2 subjects. Abortion for one is an act of murder as far as i am concerned.

If a frog had wings, if pigs could fly,… if hell freezes over…IOW the premise is ridiculous and impossible. FYI, this is the EIGHTH synod on the family, and the whole concept is support of the family as God intends. One man, one woman and as many children as God wills. The discussion will include all threats against the family and ways for the Church to bolster and nurture the family. All the media hype will be for nothing, but we do appreciate all the free publicity. It is downright exhilarating to see our Pope and the Catholic identity in the main stream news each and every day for such a positive and uplifting experience for all people, not just Catholics.

Dear Fragile, do not underestimate the power of God’s Word to be heard over man’s stupidity. In the desert, the people challenged the doctrine that you won’t worship graven images and they worshipped a golden calf. God destroyed them. Through out the old testament, the Israelites wanted to worship graven images and God punished them with war and exile. One time, the prophet of the Lord, Elijah, stood alone against those who promoted the worship of Baal. Offerings to God and to Baal were laid out on pyres but, after prayer, only the offering to the God of Israel was consumed by fire.
Abortion and ABC can never be condoned because they are murder. If the whole world screams for abortion and ABC, it will not change the fact that Abortion and ABC are murder.

I had a chat with a pro choice person. She said she is pro choice but not pro abortion. Just like she is vegetarian and thinks everyone should be vegetarian for many reasons but she thinks they should have the choice and it not be legislated.
But then I said what about the choice of the child within the woman. She is does not have the choice to terminate its life after birth, why before? Doesn’t that life also have rights to be protected. Shouldn’t we protect those most vulnerable?
I think she is thinking about it.

I don’t know what ABC is …unless you mean contraception?
Contraception could possibly be changed since it prevents the elements that make a life, from joining together. It is not a life yet…
…but, a child that is growing in the mother’s womb can never be destroyed! No chance of that happening. :nope:

No, they won’t, and if you believe that, I’m sorry but you honestly don’t understand the Catholic faith. “Dogma” of the Church will can never and will never change. That was promised by Jesus, and has always been a teaching of the Church, and the Church has not changed Dogma in 2,000 years. The Church has authority to change rules and traditions (providing they are not dogmatic) but that’s it.
For example, the rule for fasting before Holy Communion used to be 12 hours, then 3, now it is 1. That is a “rule” that the Church has authority over. But the Church cannot and will not ever say that Holy Communion is not the true body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus, and merely a symbol such as the Protestants claim.
