If the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church were united how would you feel about it?

Well heck, most of the people I know do not think you are part of it at all. I am the liberal in the group about that.
You are a liberal because your Protestantism ideas are new founded by man Martin Luther.
That word, “mystical” does not appear in the Bible.
Jesus is the Head of the Church, and we are his Body, the Church. St. Paul made this very clear. You have to understand the Spiritual sense of this “Mystical Body of Christ.”
It was the church that formed from the errors of Christians centuries later.
Wrong. The Jesus Christ Church has always been Catholic and Peter was the FIRST POPE.
Catholics are just as divided, in fact new “Catholic” churches are formed every year all claiming to be apostolic. Catholics ignore their own church teachings and are only united in a pretend world that does not exist.
They are united in faith. The Teaching are defined, and you are wrong as always.
Whole countries that used to be almost all Catholic are embracing the truth of the Bible sir. You know that as well as I do.
The Catholic Church embraced Scripture long before you came into existence. It is odd that your Protestant Forefathers distort and hijack the Bible for supporting their flawed doctrine of Bible Alone.

You know you are preaching to the choir because none of us Catholics believe you. Nor you believe us.

Your (Rightlydivide) ideas and interpretations are modern inventions of men opposed to Christ’s Church.

Peter was in error because he didn’t practiced that he preached. He didn’t taught infallibly

They were one. In fact before the Muslim took over much of Turkey, one of the 7 Churches Ephesus.

When at the council of Florence in 1439 Mark of Ephesus (Marcus Eugenicus) showed himself so haughty toward the Latins, he was the pastor of a miserable village, all that remained of the great city which Pliny once called alterum lumen Asiae, or the second eye of Asia (Hist. nat., V, xxix; also Apoc., ii, 5; cf. W. Brockhoff, "Ephesus vom vierten christlich. Jhdt. bis seinem Untergang:, Jena, 1906).

Today Aya Solouk has 3000 inhabitants, all Greeks. It is situated in the caza of Koush Adassi, in the vilayet of Aiden or Smyrna, about fifty miles from Smyrna, on the Smyrna-Aidin railway. The ruins of Ephesus stand in the marshy and unhealthy plain below the village. There are the remains of the temple of Diana, the theatre, with a capacity of 25,000 spectators, the stadium, the great gymnasium, and the “Double Church”, probably the ancient cathedral, one aisle of which was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, the other to St. John, where the councils of 431 and 449 were held. The Greek metropolitan resides at Manissa, the ancient Magnesia.

Some of our saints, like Maximilian resides from there. Besides, back there was only One Church. It’s Catholic. PERIOD!
The churches in Revelation were one??
Rev 2:4 Nevertheless I have [somewhat] against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
Rev 2:6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
Rev 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
(SOME WILL NOT OVERCOME)
Rev 2:14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
Rev 2:15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.
One?
No way?

The Church claims that this teaching was handed down by the apostles. All the early Christian writings support the Church.

Where is your proof? Where is there any evidence that the early Church believed like you do?

Yes, but Protestantism does not rest on a rejection of the authority of the General Conference of Seventh Day Adventists, pointing to the Living Church of God as evidence that such rejection was legitimate.

Any validity that Protestantism has comes solely from the gap created by the division between East and West. Take away that division, and you strip Protestantism of any valid reason for existence.

Edwin
You have touched on this before, would you mind elaborating? I can understand that the Protestant rejection of Papal Supremacy and Papal Infallability derives significant strength from the Orthodox rejection of the same concepts. But other than that, why should the validity (or not) of Protestantism depend on whether the Roman Catholic Church and Orthodox Church(s) unite?

RD can’t prove it. He can’t disprove Apostolic Succession.

It’s such a shame we Orthodox Catholics have been stifled by the CAF admin…the migration to OC.net continues & I’m joining the crowd rather than entertain this RC nonsense any longer.

“You know it’s coming”?! How arrogant. It’s amusing to me that the RCs here can’t begin to fathom that perhaps what’s coming is that ROME refutes her years of innovations & “development” and rejoins the fold she left so many years ago. Already we’re seeing her “amend” and “adjust” and “rephrase”, trying to backtrack over things she now knows she never should have done. Hopefully she continues and eventually rejoins her family.

I believe our Synods have spoken pretty consistently on the matter of union. Merging 2 clubs with key differences in core beliefs just to be united in name is pointless.

When we believe and practice the same Faith, then we will be one (and frankly at that point we won’t have to worry about “changing names” or who’s “joining who”…). Actions speak louder than words, and all this talk about “when those Orthodox are gonna submit” is just making me nauseous.

I bid you all adieu.

In CHRIST,

All of my beliefs are supported by scripture. Every last one of them.
And none of the earliest writings contradict anything I believe either.

I believe all of the Bible. And hey a guys has to work…calm down cowboy
So are you saying you’ll get back to us with some proof?

Remember, our contention is that your INTERPRETATIONS of the Bible (we all know what it SAYS, but disagree over what it MEANS) are relatively new inventions of men. That the Catholic CHurch’s interpretations are supported by the documents of the early Church and yours are not. That there is lots of proof to back up the Catholic claim and none to back up yours.

Are you going to get us some?

I said to pick any of the 10000 topics and you never did.

Here are some additional quotes to add to Ignatius’…

Pope Clement (who is mentioned in the Bible) exercised His authority in settling a dispute in Corinth, “If anyone disobey the things which have been said by him [God] through us *, let them know that they will involve themselves in transgression and in no small danger. . . . You will afford us joy and gladness if being obedient to the things which we have written through the Holy Spirit, you will root out the wicked passion of jealousy” (Letter to the Corinthians 1, 58–59, 63 [A.D. 80]). - Note that the use of ‘we’ the popes have always employed when referring to their episcopal office.

· Eusebius, in his Church History quoted from The Martyrs of Lyons, “And the same martyrs too commended Irenaeus, already at that time [A.D. 175] a presbyter of the community of Lyons, to the said bishop of Rome, rendering abundant testimony to the man, as the following expressions show: ‘Once more and always we pray that you may rejoice in God, Pope Eleutherius. This letter we have charged our brother and companion Irenaeus to convey to you, and we beg you to receive him as zealous for the covenant of Christ’”

· Irenaeus - “But since it would be too long to enumerate in such a volume as this the succession of all the churches, we shall confound all those who, in whatever manner, whether through self-satisfaction or vainglory, or through blindness and wicked opinion, assemble other than where it is proper, by pointing out here the successions of the bishops of the greatest and most ancient church known to all, founded and organized at Rome by the two most glorious apostles, Peter and Paul, that church which has the tradition and the faith which comes down to us after having been announced to men by the apostles. With that church, because of its superior origin, all the churches must agree, that is, all the faithful in the whole world, and it is in her that the faithful everywhere have maintained the apostolic tradition” (Against Heresies 3:3:2 [A.D. 189]).

· Clement of Alexandria - “[T]he blessed Peter, the chosen, the preeminent, the first among the disciples, for whom alone with himself the Savior paid the tribute [Matt. 17:27], quickly grasped and understood their meaning. And what does he say? ‘Behold, we have left all and have followed you’ [Matt. 19:27; Mark 10:28]” (Who Is the Rich Man That Is Saved? 21:3–5 [A.D. 200]).

· Tertullian - “Was anything withheld from the knowledge of Peter, who is called ‘the rock on which the Church would be built’ [Matt. 16:18] with the power of ‘loosing and binding in heaven and on earth’ [Matt. 16:19]?” (Demurrer Against the Heretics 22 [A.D. 200]).

· Tertullian - “For though you think that heaven is still shut up, remember that the Lord left the keys of it to Peter here, and through him to the Church, which keys everyone will carry with him if he has been questioned and made a confession [of faith]” (Antidote Against the Scorpion 10 [A.D. 211]).

· Tertullian - “[T]he Lord said to Peter, ‘On this rock I will build my Church, I have given you the keys of the kingdom of heaven [and] whatever you shall have bound or loosed on earth will be bound or loosed in heaven’ [Matt. 16:18–19]. . . . Upon you, he says, I will build my Church; and I will give to you the keys, not to the Church” (Modesty 21:9–10 [A.D. 220]).

· The Letter of Clement to James - “Be it known to you, my lord, that Simon [Peter], who, for the sake of the true faith, and the most sure foundation of his doctrine, was set apart to be the foundation of the Church, and for this end was by Jesus himself, with his truthful mouth, named Peter” (Letter of Clement to James 2 [A.D. 221]).

· The Clementine Homilies - “[Simon Peter said to Simon Magus in Rome:] ‘For you now stand in direct opposition to me, who am a firm rock, the foundation of the Church’ [Matt. 16:18]” (Clementine Homilies 17:19 [A.D. 221]).

· Origen - “Look at [Peter], the great foundation of the Church, that most solid of rocks, upon whom Christ built the Church [Matt. 16:18]. And what does our Lord say to him? ‘Oh you of little faith,’ he says, ‘why do you doubt?’ [Matt. 14:31]” (Homilies on Exodus 5:4 [A.D. 248]).

· Cyprian of Carthage - “With a false bishop appointed for themselves by heretics, they dare even to set sail and carry letters from schismatics and blasphemers to the chair of Peter and to the principal church [at Rome], in which sacerdotal unity has its source” (The Unity of the Catholic Church 4; 1st edition 59:14 [A.D. 251]).

· Firmillian - “[Pope] Stephen … announces that he holds by succession the throne of Peter” (collected in Cyprian’s Letters 74[75]:17 [A.D. 253]).

Where are your proofs to support your contention?*

What is in post 33? You are worse than Hillary, I am asking a simple question. What do you want me to discuss? Post 33 gives bogus quotes from Ignatius, which I already said I cannot post the rebuttal to because I have infractions against posting certain websites.
Get specific or quit wasting my time. Name the topic. Get specific.
