Unless it’s Flu/cold season, I receive both.
Yeah, if I even think I might be contagious, I abstain from both.

You’re not going to spread anything by accepting a Host unless you lick the priest’s hand. Seriously. And even then you’re unlikely to make someone sick unless they then wipe their eye with your spit or lick their hand behind you.

You were actually more contagious before you even knew you were sick. You exposed more people before you even displayed symptoms.
Both? I’ve never considered the Host to be a means of transmission…
It’s not - unless you lick it and feed it to the person behind you. It’s not a vector any other way.

Whatever. I can only go by what I feel like at any given time. Any implications that I am doing something wrong by abstaining from Holy Communion for the purpose of not passing cooties on to someone are going right into the bit bucket.

I’m a minister of the cup.

I chose to volunteer for it, because I like receiving the Precious Blood, and I know others do as well.

So, some one has to do it and I volunteered.

No. If you receive under only one species, you receive the BODY, BLOOD, SOUL and DIVINITY of Christ.

I’m not implying anything except a faulty understanding of how illnesses are transmitted. My point is you’re not passing on anything. There’s no need for others to abstain based on faulty information. You do you, but you’re spreading nothing by accepting a host. It’s not, “Whatever”. That’s how it works.

My parish doesn’t offer under both on Sundays. When I’m at a Mass that does offer under both species, if I’m sitting in the front, I will receive.

If I’m not, I usually will not. And if I’m sick, I will not.

God Bless

That was to His apostles who were priests.
By that standard, you could say laypersons shouldn’t even receive under one form.

Sometimes there are logistical or health reasons not to offer both, but there’s no theological reason not to.

Thank you Angel, exactly correct!

@BridgetN The Church, in her wisdom, has decided to allow the use of the cup for a “fuller sign value”. It is up to the Bishop of the diocese ultimately to make the call for his diocese, as to whether or not it will happen.
I, personally, like the fact that it is offered, and partake as often as I am able. If you don’t want to, that is fine too.
But to say it is not necessary is not your call to make.

When did the Catholic Church start allowing laypersons to receive the blood of Christ for communion?
I think I remember it was in practice early?
Does anyone know which year?

It was normal practice for almost the entire first millennium of the Church.
I believe it was after.Vatican II that Rome allowed the Bishop’s conferences to decide. The parish I grew up in started the cup for the laity in the late 1970’s or early 80’s.

I normally receive both the Host, and from the Chalice, but I don’t sweat it if only the Host is offered to me.

That’s what I said.
I was replying to a poster who said that we get the ‘body, blood, soul & divinity’ in just the host, so the cup is not necessary.
While that is true of either species, bread or wine, after consecration, the Church has deemed that offering both is a fuller sigh of Communion, one needs just read the GIRM.
