If the Rapture actually happened, what would you do?

I think a lot of people are missing the point of the OP.

He said, for the sake of argument, assume that the rapture occurred, and Catholics stayed behind.

The above would assume that Catholicism is not a Christian religion, and that Evangelicalism is theologically correct (and apparently, the more fundamentalist branch).

Somehow I’m unconvinced that given the above, people would continue being Catholic and pretend nothing happened, as some of the responses seem to suggest.
Well that is how most of the world acts after “the actual event” in the books and movies. I wouldn’t expect anyone to say any differently. Especially in front of their coreligionist who believe things wil happen in a different way.

Well, if the hypothetical was true, I might just head over to some of the “raptured” Evangelicals homes, to care for their pets 😃
What a great idea I would come and help you I love doggies also have one of my own named Monster.

I guess if there was a rapture, my cable company might replace TBN and Daystar with sports channels, so that would be good.

Assume, for the sake of argument, that the kind of pretribulation dispensationalist end times like the events in the *Left Behind * series is actually happening. Suddenly, people disappear all at once (no Catholics, because Catholics aren’t “saved” according to many of these groups) and nobody really thinks anything more of it until everything starts (literally) going to Hell: natural disasters, famine, war, you need a mark on your hands before you can conduct business, that sort of thing. Then suddenly you have angels and demons duking it out on your doorstop and Jesus comes back and is all “Sorry, everyone, the Evangelicals were right…”

What do you do?

Remember, this is not up for debate. It’s happening, you can see it with your own eyes. Do you hunker down and hope no one notices that you’re missing? Hope that well, at least you were Christian, maybe Jesus will show mercy? (Not a chance.) Convert? Figure that you can at least go down fighting? I’m just kicking around some ideas for a story about how people of other religions (non-Evangelicals and non-Christians alike) would react to this sort of scenario.
Lokabrenna,

The first thing I would is turn on TBN, Daystar, and all the other channels with streaming Dispenational streaming. If Mike Murdoch, Joel Osteen, Bishop T.D. Jakes, and the TBN network staff was still streaming I would wonder…

then I would call Beverly LaHaye and Tim LaHaye…now if they did not answer the phone and CNN reported them missing then I would go get the Left Behind Series and read it to find out what to do.

What if we got invaded by little green men from another galaxy far, far away. I mean really think about it. And what if they told us that Jesus was really one of them and they had started the whole God thing as part of an experiment in the gullability of humans. What would you do? Please…

Steve,

Should this not be another thread?

If this happened I would want to know how they did it.

You’re welcome to start another thread but this one seems to make about as much sense so the topic is at least in good company. No offense to the OP. 😃

Such a scenario is completely unbiblical, and is in fact, 180 degrees out of phase with what the Bible actually says. The Bible actually says that the good guys get left behind and the bad guys get taken away to hell.

Publishing a story that perpetuates ideas such as the rapture encourages unbiblical error. I would be very cautious about doing so.

agree 100%

I really dislike hypothetical questions. So…

Since the whole “rapture” doctrine is the product of a 19th century woman with mental health problems, the question is rather silly.

I would cry because God allowed me to have mystical experiences that point to Catholicism. I would cry because I do my best to follow Jesus’ teachings rather than saying “faith saves” and keep on sinning. Obediance and repentance would mean nothing. I would question God’s justice, especially after I was given a bad direction after much suffering and sorrow. Why did he leave me behind?

If there is a Rapture, then according to Evangelical theology the only requirement is that you have A- admit you are a dinner, B- believe Jesus died for you as Gods sacrificial Lamb and C- confess you sins and begin a personal relationship with Jesus.
Since I do these things as a Catholic at every single Mass - penitential rite (and gonto confession frequently), renewal of the eternal covenant in the Eucharist and welcome Jesus to dwell within me and be spiritual food for my journey through life in Him, I have no fear that I would be missing the Rapture if the Evangelicals were right about it. The reason they say that Catholics aren’t “saved” is because they have no idea what all the “rituals” (also known as beautiful liturgy) and sacraments of the Church do.
I have no idea what the end times will be like but I love Jesus and do my best to live a contempletive, penitent and humble life. I trust myself to the mercy of my Savior.
Sacred heart of Jesus have mercy on us.
Immaculate heart of Mary, pray for us.
Amen. Alleluia.

It ain’t that easy. When I was an evangelical, the rapture was held over our heads as a reason to not party, go to the movies, listen to secular music, have sex, etc.

The idea was that you had to always be on your p’s and q’s, because you never knew when Jesus would return.

Which ‘desert’ would you rather be, the Cake Desert or the Sahara Desert? 😃
